Is this a DaoC pvp-only sequel? With like 20 classes

Not much information on it.

I say, leave DAoC out of this game. You would only set yourself up for disappointment like Warhammer did.

its it own game. Leave it at that and judge it like so.

    wall'o'text.

I enjoyed warhammer but the rr grind and the lack of pl playing it ruined it.

Definitely not DAOC 2. It will have some similarities but isn't a sequel. From what info has been released so far it seems like a cross between DAOC (3 realms), Shadowbane (almost all pvp all the time), and SWG (crafting).

There's no PvE and there won't be as many classes since it was quite a balance headache.

    No.

Their using "camelot" in the title to draw the DAoC fans.  And it has 3 realms.  And the 3 realms are almost mirror images of the DAoC realms.  And it will have RVR.  And it will have crafting.  And it will have relics.

But it won't have PVE.  So there!  Its not DAoC2!

If this game doesn't appeal to DAoC fans it has no hope whatsoever.

It's not going to be a copy and paste version of DaoC.  If you want to know what type of game it's going to be, just read Mark's Foundational Principles on the camelot unchained site.  Simple as that.

    Hmmm okay.

Hopefully we get a gameplay video up eventually.

Then it has no hope. For many DAoC fans (myself included), the combination of Lore, PvE, and RvR is what made the game great.

All we know about CU is that it's some form of 3 faction PvP, which does not equal RvR by a long shot.

I don't care what Mark does, there's always going to be somebody bitchin' and complaining about something.  There's even people complaining about his awesome ideas for Crafting, for Christ's sake.  There comes a point when Mark is just going to need to stick to his guns and ignore the QQ.  You can't satisfy everyone.  This game is going to be about pure RvR/PvP.  Take it or leave it.  It's enshrined right there in his fundamental principles that PvE won't exist.  There's no sense in crying about it when you can just move along to some other WoW-clone that you love so dearly.

So if I want to avoid the crafting requirement, I should just stick with LoL?  Why should I pay a subscription for same game that added a faction?

I LOVE DAoC.  But I refuse to play a stripped down version of it because its cheaper not work on PVE.  Roughly 9 million people play WoW and it's PVP sucks.  Why after 15 years and all these previous release that included PVE is a fundamental not to include it?  Is he saying that he has made crap all these years and now you should trust him to make gold?

Something along those lines but not exactly, yes. Read all the posts by Mark Jacobs on this forum and the foundations posts on the official site and you'll get a good sense of the general direction he wants to go.

I guess you didn't get the memo about this being a NICHE game that appeals to people who love PvP/RvR and could give a damn about the PvE.  The beauty of being an RvR-focused only game is that every inch of real estate in the game is always going to be fresh and alive with activity, as opposed to a typical MMO with PvE in which the 90% of lower level content  areas eventually go abandoned and are devoid of players.  It's just a bunch of programmer coded NPCs in a never-ending loop of sameness.

As far as I'm concerned, PvE in MMOs will never really be very interesting until they perfect the art & science of Artificial Intelligence.  I'm talking about A.I. on the level in which every NPC character and MOB in the game thinks and behaves like an intelligent being (with motive and drive) with far more sophistication than some scripted loop.  The way PvE works now in a typical MMO is that it gets stale after the first run through.  It's just a grind.  At least with PvP, there's a certain beautiful choas that keeps things fresh.

Yeah, I could care less what he does. Another has-been game designer trying to cash in on his former glory. *yawn*

    uh..

Pretty much a dead discussion, the game is over 2~3 years out...

It's going to be very much like DAoC but unlike it at the same time.

Mark's foundational principles capture the essence of what made DAoC such an awesome game and experience for the players that played it back in the day. That's why I will bet on this game. It's got the right lead and the right principles.

Ofc I will miss the running around camelot hills, getting lost in salisbury plains or saving lowbies lives and getting thank you's in PM for it. But this is where the game will be different and I'm sure Mark will make sure there are elements like this within CU and within the RvR gameplay.

Guys. This game cannot NOT be good. Any game designer who A) says what MJ is saying and B) has created the BEST competitive mmorpg to date can only fvck up so much.

Really. This is not corporate pillow talk. This guy is putting his reputation and future in the industry on the line in the presence of the only people who still venerate him.

This is basically the most amazing line in the sand that has ever been drawn.

And followed it up with WAR.

    I rest my case.
