Anyone want to generalize so as not to violate the NDA?
Anarchyart, thought you were beta testing this but you seem preoccupied with EQ2. Guess RV must not be worth the time.

Technically saying they are testers will violate the NDA.
From a couple personal accounts I've been given, some testers are getting burned out on it and aren't expecting to play RV in retail. While this is discouraging, it has been happening in every single beta test since the creation of time. I used to be an utter GW fanboy, but after doing beta for several months, I just didn't have the heart for it.
Heard also that game isnt even near to being ready for release. I also have been waiting for this game with interest, but i think they are trying too much. If you read their forums, there hardly is nothing concrete in forums what game has in it. All is still pretty much speculation.
Haven't played it, so what do i know. But what i see and hear, thats whole other thing.

Actually if you read only the article on mmorpg you'd see the most is already implemented. RB said it's coming this autumn and since it's in the workshop for a looong time I think it's coming out anytime soon.
Visit the link below to see more quotes from beta testers (it's been published by RB so no worries).

Yes i also read that article and it truly sounds interesting after that, but still word gets around. This really could be the game that all are waiting, but it doesnt look ready.
If you read their forums, all is pretty much a mess. Quotes after quotes everywhere to posts that were posted few years ago. No-one knows how much things have really changed and what they had to drop.
Community is nice on their forums, but too many rather silly suggestions all over the place. People dont seem to know what realism in games is. Like they said something about digging skill somewhere, people were already saying that "Woohoo, im gonna build underground caves and lair for me!" And that example is just one of many of what i have seen.
Even now i am following development of 3-5 Mmos on almost daily basis, its just what i see. Hope that this game will turn out great thou.

remember if you even state you are in Beta, you violate their NDA

Rommeli you're absolutely correct. The Q&A are too old and the whole thing is confusing. Like you said, same questions pop up which have been asked few years ago and RB didn't include them in Q&A. A word of advice to them from me although it doesn't matter at all. They should Q&A all the popular questions so they could say to all the newcomers go and check Q&A before you post because the latest questions are not included resulting in too many posts (more or less about the same thing).
I will have to explain things again as usual.
Firstly let me tell you that no matter where you see them, release dates are always wrong. Devs put estimations on their website, not facts. This is why the mmo Darkfall has not even given an estimation to the public for near 2 years now, because people expect things.
2ndly as I have said many times on these forums. RV IS NOT FOR EVERYONE!, infact, its not for 90% of mmorpg players. If you like EQ/wow/swg type games you will NOT like RV. RV is as far as I have seen the most hardcore mmo ever made. It is not easy, the developers do not hold your hand and lead you along like sheep like they do in WOW.
3rdly let me also say that people expect that when they get into testing they get to play a near completed game for free. This is where they come into problems. There is no alpha/beta setup with RV and we are not in some sort of "open beta" section right now. The only thing I could probably compare it to is beta 2, beta 4 being open. That being said NO if you get into beta tomorrow you will not be playing a full game for free... you will be TESTING... which is why your there in the frickin first place.
and btw yes you cannot even say you are in the testing. I am the one exception because after writing the RV preview it was obvious that I was in the testing. If you notice in the preview I did not go into depth about everything in the RV faq. I talked about what is IN the testing and whats going on. I also said on the bottom I did not think it would be out in the fall.
all the dynamics and systems are IN the game, as I said in my preview, now they are just trying to add in the content and put it all together on a stable server so that when they release the game it wont be a horrible debacle like most mmo releases are.

I've heard from many people that the beta test sucks some major ass. One of my friends told me that he was in the beta test and said that it wasn't even "near completion".
From reading the boards, it looks like the developers have just dissapeared or something. The boards have turned into utter chaos in the last month or so.
However, I'm optimistic, and I think it'll turn out good. I hope this isn't another Mourning.
Me.
It is true. I don't care that I'm violating the NDA because I'm not even bothering with it anymore.
Anybody who insists that this game is strictly for the hard-core is simply deluding themselves. There is a huge difference between being hard-core and having a crappy game.
I predict this game will tank, bigtime.

It is difficult to believe that the RV people are too busy to provide a status on their progress. 10 minutes a week is not really asking a lot. It is hard not to conclude that the product is failing. Probably a case of people getting in over their heads.
Hopefully I'm mistaken but I think not.
Failing!? That's pretty harsh. You dont have to take my word for it, but you are mistaken. And remember, I was a gamer, then I found RV back in 02. I then became a mod, then was invited to join the team...I've been lied to before by developers and much of the RB team has also been burned, we dont make it a habbit to lie to the community.
RB has a different outlook on many things relating to MMORPGs and development. For instance KFR is the only person on the team that is allowed to give out any new information. And unfortunately, he dives into his work and rarely comes up for air. I'll try to get him to post an update on the official RV boards...and I'm sure someone will repost here, or I will if they do not.
Another thing RB does differently is if the game is not ready for the projected release, we will not release it...simple as that. We dont have a pre-release publisher telling us when to push the game out the door (although the term "publishers standing with wallets open" has crossed my ears).
It's disappointing to see people badmouthing a game that is still not released, and not only violating the NDA but going against KFR's wishes is probably worse. As long as the NDA is in place you're probably only going to hear the really bad news sad to say, as the people with the really good news tend to follow directions and requests.

Worry not, that shall be done.

I would think that a small outfit trying to compete with the big boys would be more inclined to use forums such as these to promote their game. Providing frequent updates would go a long way towards heading off much off the negative talk that is statring to appear on these boards. Too busy to even do that I believe is a big mistake. I understand not wanting to make promises that may not be achieveable, but not giving any information, from my perspesctive, is far worse that saying nothing. A release dateof 12/31/05 appears on the listing for RV, I wonder what the response on these forums will be if/when that date is missed.
Yep I agree about not saying anything is bad part. After all there's more people in RedBedlam than KFR. I don't think anyone can say it's good to keep quiet for so long especially being close to their projected release date.
The respone is that they DID NOT SET THIS DATE. MMORPG.com set this date, not RB.
do you take everything at face value in life?
my 15+ years of following games has told me to never believe ANY release dates... ESPECIALLY from places like mmorpg.com, electronics botique, babbages, or any other game store/website.
and when it comes to the developers giving a date.. that is the date they HOPE to be done by if everything runs smooth... which rarely happens in game development anyways.

Game developers should not offer a potential release date unless they are fairly certain of it.
RV already missed their first release date of 9/30/05 which is autumn. 12/31/05 is winter.
WoW for example, met their release date with a polished product.
When a game company starts their life cycle with misleading information about game mechanics and release dates, it does not fare well for the product.
