Question about my new graphics card? Purple screen?

Ok guys so I can't find any information on this... I figured maybe someone here will have a decent idea of what to do. So I just bought a new graphics card, an "EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW". to be specific. The card works great on everything, though it can run a bit hot, though I assume that is normal, since the FTW version is stock overclocked. (By hot I mean... without an extremely loud fan profile set up, it will reach above 70 degrees on demanding games, sometimes 80). But yea, other than that, the card works great, I can max anything out, including Metro 2033, and get completely smooth gameplay and never drop below 60 FPS.

That being said, when my computer goes to sleep, which I have it set up to do on its own once I have been away for a while, SOMETIMES (not every time) when I hit the power button to wake it back up, I will get a very brief (2-3 seconds) bright, SOLID purple screen, before that flashes away, and then I get my desktop picture back. Is this something I should be concerned about? Could it mean I'm going to have problems with this video card later?

I did change my color settings, in the nvidia control panel, from RGB to YCbCr444... I don't know if that could make a difference? With RGB my colors were off, the change looked way better so I went with it. I also don't know if the purple screen happens with RGB or not, I didn't think about that settings possibly causing this until I started typing this... who knows though.

Any insight would be appreciated! I'm trying to find out if I should replace this card while I am still within my 30 days. Thanks everyone.

First off, the temperatures are a bit high, but still within the savety marges. My SLI setup of the GTX460 would hit 78C as well and I asked about that on the EVGA forums and they said it was okay. The nVidia chips can run as hot as 100C without causing too much trouble. You might wanna look at your heath-flow though and give the card a bit more space to vent the heath (just in case...)

On the purple screen... Can't help you really about that one, but my guess is that it's either a driver issue or that your CPU is a bit slower than the GPU and doesn't give output when your computer 'wakes up'. Since the GPU does get the 'wake up call' it has to display something which might be the purple screen in your case (just guessing though)

Yea I had been worried about my temperatures a bit, but if I set up a (loud) fan profile, I can keep it in the low 60's. Just keeping my eye on that for now. Interesting theory on the purple screen though, it makes sense, I never thought of that. It is possible, my processor is an i5-750. BUT when I bought the graphics card, I also bought a water cooler heatsink for my processor and overclocked it from 2.67ghz to 3.67ghz with no drawbacks. Maybe that's still not fast enough? It is a powerful video card.

Your temps seems high but most evga coolers are mediocre unless you pay the premium for the nicer ones like the signature or higher models. If your room is warm the gpu will be warmer and if the case has bad airflow the GPU will also suffer from that aswell.

My only other option is RGB. But why do I need to change it back to RGB? The only issue I am seeing from having it set on YCbCr444 is the purple screen (if that's what is causing it).

Is there another reason I should change it back? Because I can certainly deal with a brief purple screen, if it doesn't mean there is something wrong with my video card.

Really would be much easier if it was a blue screen *LOL*

Anyone know anything about what may be causing this purple screen?

This only happens while the computer is coming out of sleep mode, and never under any other circumstances?

Yes. That's the only time it has happened so far anyway. And even then, it doesn't do it every time, but most of the time.

Really need to know if I should exchange this card or not, nobody has ever encountered such an issue?
