"We are building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way; to get to a higher level," said EA CFO Blake Jorgensen. "And consumers are enjoying and embracing that way of business."
Just goes to show you that this is all just a business and you will be nickel and dimed to death... While this may pertain to single player and co-op style games, EA also has a host of MMO's. This is why I support Sub style games and independent developers
Everyone wanted F2P, and this is the result. It's sad, but you reap what you sow.
Dont worry. This is for P2P. I guess you are correct, you do reap what you sow.

Yes. What i reap is free fun while whales subsidize my games. Sounds great to me.
And what you're getting is a game that lacks any sort of depth or immersion, because they're too concnerned with reminding people that there is a cash shop.

The other side of the "you grinded for 3 weeks getting the latest tier of gear? well then have fun grinding the next after patch day in 2 days!" coin, don't think crappy F2P games don't have polyzygotic twins in the crappy P2P games.

Depth is a buzzword with no meaning other than I like this particular feature.
Old games have no more depth than new games, or any more reasons to explore than new games.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

League of Legends lacks depth?
Heh... true... they did say F2P game not F2P MMO so you can also layer onto league of legends: World of tanks, War Thunder, Navyfield 1, Wurm Online, Path of Exile and Mechwarrior Online (which is finally getting bigger maps).
And what you're getting is a game that lacks any sort of depth or immersion, because they're too concnerned with reminding people that there is a cash shop.

Well not every consumer shares the same opinion and mine is a big middle finger to EA. So you want to have microtransactions on every game. That means every game will have always online DRM and a cash shop, plus a box price, some day one DLC and all the other crap EA does. The last EA game I got was SWTOR.
All this does is make it even easier not to buy EA.

I actually agree with a lot of what the video stated, the problem though is that older games, including MMO did not offer more emergent gameplay or choices in gameplay than new games do. There were exceptions, UO had more than SWTOR. However EQ did not have more than WoW, I would argue that WoW skill tree at release (simplified further now though) offered more gameplay than EQ at release.
So in terms of depth between old and new... IMO it's a wash.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.
Everyone wanted F2P, and this is the result. It's sad, but you reap what you sow.
This is nothing like free to play. this is buying a game and paying more to unlock content that came on a disk you already purchased.
No, it *is* F2P. Look at SWtOR to get an idea of what EA wants out of cash shop and DLC stuff. Where the content comes from is irrelevant these days, because they just want to sell you a stripped down basic version of a game, then sell you content that very well did get created along with the game, as well as find ways of offering you yet more in game chances to buy stuff while playing the game (such as dead space 3 and the crafting).
The F2P MMO model fits very much into that whole paradigm.
As the other guy said, it's nothing like Free to play when it comes to EA. What they speak of, is selling you Dead Space 3 for 60 bucks and then asking you 5bucks for extra ammo/weapon/craftable packs. That is what EA is doing alrady, and what they plan to expand and exploit.
You used to pay 60 bucks for your game and get the full load. It was expensive, yes. But you had bought it, so you could fully enjoy it. EA wants you to pay 60 bucks for the right to play the game, and every little extra penny for the right to enjoy it.
In other words, a scam, and a good reason to sabotage and practice piracy with every and each of their products.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.

People have no one to blame except themselves.
E.A. Has been a monster now for over a decade, consuming games, and game studios with wild abandon, and then destroying them, and their culture for nothing more then to stuff the pockets of shareholders.
It is no shock to me that the company is now giddy and flush with revenue, and openly flaunting a system that makes them obsene profits.
E.A. IMHO is the worst of the worst, a gigantic behemoth hell bent on the detruction of EVERY game it can get it's slimey claws on in the name of the god profit.
I cannot spew any worse hatred and vitriol on any single one gameing entity then E.A.
A torterous death would be to good of a fate.
I HATE E.A. AND WILL NEVER BUY ANY TITLE ASSOCISATED WITH THEM!
I know, all trying to make money and stuff... Those stinkers, lets go pout in the corner!
Trying to make money = ok, a hot dog vendor is trying to make money and I respect that person
Trying to make money and rip you off doing it = not ok, a hot dog vendor that sells you the bun, the sausage and the condiments independently of each other and at a inflated price.
And what you're getting is a game that lacks any sort of depth or immersion, because they're too concnerned with reminding people that there is a cash shop.
Why the hell are people calling this F2P? I can guarantee that the majority (probably all) the games EA will release in the next few years will have an up-front price AND the whole microtransactions shenanigans. So if anything, it's the WoW model, pay-to-pay (yes, I meant pay-to-pay, that is not a typo), except for singleplayer games.

Even in single player games you already have to "pay-to-pay" with EA. I'll note again the recent case of Dead Space 3, where after paying 60 bucks for the game, they charge you extra cash for packs with ammo or crafting materials. They even said somwhere that people spending hours to farm materials through respawn points instead of buying them off the shop were basically thieves. It's disgusting, really.
Sabotage this crap company, they deserve to burn.

ummmmm, is this not capitalism? If there was nobody buying these items they would call the model failed not expanding it. God, no wonder this country is becoming a socialistic nightmare. I deserve free games with all content!!! I deserve a free phone!!! Free healthcare!!!! Rich people are bad!!!! Companies being profit driven are evil!!!!
Tis a sad time for gamers. We are only looked at like drooling ATM machines and it seems a lot of players are ok with it and want them to look at us this way.

I think Dead Space 3 actually was their "trial run" with this shit. Apparently they earned lots of moola so of course they're gonna implement it in their future titles. People are idiots.
