Every class is good, if you are good. Some people may say that this class sucks, that class is to powerful. Don't listen to them. The classes are balanced in a good way, not perfect, but good. No classes are way better than other. Some are easier to play, while other are a little harder. You can't screw up your character in Wow by picking a "wrong" class like in many other mmo's. Just pick what you think will be most fun and play it You won't regret it.
I havn't played the game yet, but I agree with Phoenixs. Just play w/e interests you most. Once you decide that then you can ask for some tips w/ that char. class.
Personally I'll probably be a night-elf rogue specializing in tailoring, leatherworking, skinning, and first-aid. However, that's just MY personal decison based on what MY interests are and nothing else. Don't worry about what is better or worse because truthfully any character could beat any other character of the same lv. as long as they are a good PLAYER (and if anyone starts posting to contradict that statement Imma hafta b**ch slap somebody).
Give us some hints on what type of play style you like? Would you rather be a combatant, such as a warrior, or a healer, such as a priest or druid? If you like pets, then you may prefer playing a Hunter or Warlok.
Just as important is the type of server that you select. If you're not into PvP that much, then I'd suggest either a Normal or RP server. You can still PvP, but it's an option rather than a requirement.
Ico Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
Well I've had my fair share of MMORPGS and what can say is that I'm really into anything besides magic...Whats a decent class that can solo and kill mobs pretty quickly...I was looking at the WoW website and I was wondering if Pallys or Warriors can solo?
Pretty much any class can deal out solid damage if specced right. Any class can solo effectively, the only deciding factor is downtime, which isn't very bad for any class, really
It mainly depends on if you're looking strictly at a class from a pvp, or pve standpoint.
Shaman, and rogues do very well in pvp, but have a somewhat harder time of things in pve since there are so many of them competing for spots in groups/raids.
Pallies can be a great asset in pvp, but very few people take advantage of their strengths, and play them as a warrior with crap dps, and heals. Personally, I like having one in groups for pve, especially once they get a taunt in the next patch.
Priests do well either way, shadowpriests can kick some serious ass in pvp, but don't heal as well as a holy/disc spec. however, as a holy/disc priest, you'll never want for a group, but your dps isn't so hot, and you will be running around with a big fat target on your back in the battlegrounds, as I can attest.
Warriors, mages, and warlocks do well in both pvp, and pve, and like priests generally have little problems finding a group, though that may vary by server. Warlocks seem to be in higher demand, as not many seem to play them.
Hunters... well, Hunters do wicked damage to squishies. And have nice sustained damage. They're pretty fun to play as well.
Druids? I hate Druids as much as I do Shaman. Fun enough class I guess, if that's your thing. Pain in the ass to kill one, though.
Personally I believe that Blizzard has done a remarkable job of making every class an interesting one to play. They are also very independent and you don't have to rely on grouping with other classes to effectively level like in some other games.
If you can't decide what specialized class you really want to play, the druid is a very good jack-of-all-trades class to get a feel of the game. He can cast, heal, melee and even walk in stealth, using different animal forms.
The paladin was my starting class and even though he's not a great damage dealer, he packs a lot of punch in PvE and you just feel less vulnerable in his boots, which is als great for beginners.
Also blizzard alwase makes a good game alwase. i played starcraft, warcraft, diablo (wich i belive they should make another one) and im in the proccesos of gettin Wow so just think of the componies repuatation when getting a game also
Wow, yeah thats true about the company..I've played all those games to....I should be getting this game in 2 weeks..For my first character I'm deciding between a Hunter and a Warrior..What race would they be good in...I was thinking NightElf But I'm not sure..
well nightelf hunter would use a bow, since they get a racial bonus for them, while a dwarf hunter would use a gun since they get a racial bonus for that. so I guess it all depends on what weapon you like when it comes to that. I think when it comes to warrior, orc would be the best because they have 25% resist to all stuns, and they spec in axes, which I love. *Hack 'em to bits my pretty* (talking to axe in hand)
EDIT: My opinion on the company is that WoW is running on the steam produced by their other games. Starcraft, Warcraft, and Diablo are all breakthrough, awesome games, while WoW just took what everyone else did, polished it up, made it easy for noobs, and applied it to the Warcraft world. (this is my opinion. no flaming)
--------------------------------------------- I live to fight, and fight to live.
Play what ever you want your paying 15$ so play what you want not what others want you to play, but if I had to pick some fun classes if would be a Rogue/Mage or maby even Warlock, well thats what I enjoy playing anyways.
You dont like magic.. that makes it a bit easier...
Paly - (warrior/priest hybrid) one of the easiest PvE classes becuase it can tank fairly well but it can also heal. I personaly find palies to be not as axciting to play becuase they dont have that many combat skills to chose from as lets say hunters or rogues do.
Warrior - Best tank, fairly good dmg. Can switch between tank mode and dmg dealing mode. I havent played it personaly but i heard that their gameplay is like paly - not overly exciting.
Rogue - Best melee DPS, only rivaled by mage in the DPS department. I find this class VERY fun to play. The only gamewhere i find a rogue type to be fun.
Hunter - Range weapons, can melee OK. Pet class. Very self-sufficient since usualy u dont take any dmg but your pet does. Very fun to play. Lots of combat skills - as many as a rogue, perhaps more.
Shaman - another hybrid, can melee/heal/cast offensive spells. Didnt play myself but some claim this to be the best PvP class. I tend to disagree but I havent PvPed much to prove or disprove this claim.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
Yeah, if you're lookin for solo, warriors, hunters or paladins.
Warriors are pure strength and can use most weapon types, they have the most HP, but lack recovery spells.
Paladins are good fighters, have some spells that increase stats and do damage, and heal. But they are overall a liitle less strong than warriors, but their spells more than make up for it.
Hunters arent so good at mob control. They are cool cause you can get a pet, and You can use guns. They are extremely powerful when facing a smeall # of enemies, but dont have as much health has pallies or warriors.
The one thing good about the characters is that each one gives you the feeling that, "Why would anyone play any other class than this.
For example, i have a lvl 60 hunter, it was my first character and he has some traits which I feel bad for other classes that don't have it.
I'll give you the top 5 skills a hunter has.
1. Track humanoid = basically you can track any humanoid on the mini-map it's perfect for many situations, ranging from running in between monsters to get to avoid them, finding the specific monster (boss) you want to kill, finding players to kill (PvP server), finding NPC's.
2. Feign death. Basically what this skill does is if you're getting owned, which means either your pet died or the monsters are attacking you rather than the pet you can fake death adn then they will just attack your pet, if alive, or just leave and go back to their natural stage. Saves so many deaths it's amazing.
3. Aimed shot = This is basically a bazooka blast with a bow or gun, has a 3 second casing span and adds 600+ dmg at lvl 60. It is used many timse to kill other players because as a hunter you can see them on teh mini-map so you can come up from behind them and they will never know. Basically, if i'm not distracted, no character will ever get the first shot on me (be it melee or ranged) except rogues but that doesn't happen very much.
4. Heal pet, keeps your pet alive as a personal tank. Warlords who also hvae pets i believe cannot do this.
5. Auto-shot. This is an amazing feature and at the same time a curse. With hunters you can basically shoot once and then it keeps automatically firing fo ryou which is fine. This is very good because you can send your pet in to fight a monster, click auto-shot, read a paragraph of a book, look up and the monster is dead. Rinse and repeat and you can play WoW and do something else at the same time. However, it makes instances the most god awful boring thing ever known to mankind.
Negatives of hunters:
1. Pet has crappy AI and is prone to attract whole areas of monsters, people who are looking for groups don't necessarily like hunters that much, so sometimes hard to find a group. The pet costs a crap load of money to feed.
Positives of a ahunter:
1. You can function with the most god awful equipment ever known, i ran MC with 6 green items last night, since you stay in the back and you don't get hit that much, you don't take much damage usually unless crap hits the fan, so it's not that item dependent.
In conclusion, I love my hunter, i love his unique talents, but I also love my lvl 19 rogue's talents. Very hard hitter, stealth ability is amazing, can't take much, but can sure dish it out. Nothing is cooler than having a quest to assassinate a guy, stealth through the whole area, be it a cave or whatever, pop up behind the boss, kill it, stealth out. No one heard or saw a thing.
Also, I have a lvl 19 warrior which i find kind of boring to play, but a warrior truly shines in instances, and that's where teh button pushing is furious and you actually have to pay attention to what you're doing. Hence, being a warrior is good in that situation it allows instances to be the toughest and most fun situations for warriors. Also rogues as well.
I'm contrasting this with hunters in which i've found instances to be mind-numbingly boring as I just sit in the back, hit one button, hit a few buttons every so often, and that's it.
Overall, you need to think of what you enjoy doing the most, for me it was a ranged sort of hybrid character and the hunter was it, i love him and all, but i just don't do instances often as i find them so boring and thus my gear sucks. I still gank well though .
Also, i suggest making 2 characters at once, you'll learn about the double xp thing, but make 2 characters i think it'll enhcance the situation in some ways. Also, the good thing about WoW is that for every level range, there are at lesat 2 areas in which you can reasonably quest in. So if you do make 2 characters, don't have them overlap the same quests.
I just wanted to provide you with my analysis on the hunter, the good and the bad, also i'm probably the only person in WoW who finds instances boring too. I think if everyone put the good and the bad and the ins and outs of a character, then people who are just starting out will know what they're getting into it.
Also, you can have amazing fun with pets as you progress in levels, as you can control both your char and the pet at the same time.
Cryomatrix
P.S. another issues with the hunter is that he's not an essential part of the classic 5 man group. The classic 5 man group consists of Warrior, Priest, rogue, mage, and other (I would think 2 mages would be ideal for 2 sheepings and a rogue for sap). A hunter will fit in the other. Of course it's not that easy to get a group of 5 so you'll see druids/shamans and warlocks mixed in. But hunters aren't in demand for instances.

sounds like a hunter is for you. easiest class to solo with, uses a pet, and uses a bow or gun as well as melee weapons.

Actually, Night Elves do *not* get a racial bonus to bows.
Their racial traits are:
Shadowmeld, Wisp Form, Quickness, and Nature Resist.
Night Elf racials
Dwarves do get the +5 bonus to guns, though.

Quick personality test.
1.Do you like teamwork or sololing (all can solo, some better than others)
2.A damage dealer or THE damage dealer.
