Thinking of switching from EQ

I am sick of SoE and the bad custoner service in EQ.  Can anyone give me the pro & cons of FF11?

One aspect I like of EQ is the buying/selling in the bazaar.  Epecially on the Firiona Vie server where very few items are 'no drop"; almost everything is tradable/sellable.  Does FF11 have a bazaar type element?  Is there a server like that in WoW or are all like that?

I play a L70 ranger in EQ.  What is the equivlent in FF11?

What about Wow?  Which is more like EQ, Wow, GW or FF11?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I played a warrior / druid / cleric / shaman / and a few others in EQ for 4 years. Got tired of the lousy support bugged patches ect. I havent played FF VI but I do play WoW and really enjoy it. The classes are not quite the same but work well. WoW has an auction house where you can put items up for sale and you do not have to be there you get mailed the proceeds. Lots of old EQ players in WoW. at the high end there are fun 40 man raids, at the low end its pretty different but easy to lvl and very fun. Mid game its lots of grinding .. but LOL any EQ player is used to that. and its not nearly as bad as SWG. I like much better than EQII.... I miss my Eq friends but let the account billing expire cause it just wasnt fun anymore. Anyway my 2 coppers worth.

    60 Paladin Silvermoon WoW

Alright, I havnt played EQ, but from my experience, FF11 is really good. Gameplay is awsome, customer service is pretty good. You asked whats the equivalent of a lvl 70RNG in ff11... well that would be a lvl 70RNG. Anyway, hope this helps ya to make your decision.

I played FFXI for two years and loved it. The community is pretty good....gameplay rocks. Coming from EQ you are already used to the high time committment. I would stronly encourage the switch. Graphics are not as good as EQ2...but they are much better than EQ. Overall, FFXI is a better game. SquareEnix has put a lot of time and money into making it a solid mmo. I made lots of friends and had a blast....but i had to quit because i needed more time for my real life. So i am playing WOW now.

MAKE THE SWITCH....I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND IT!!

There are four Auction Houses where you can put stuff up for sale--one for each major city. There are some items which are "Ex"--you can't give them to other players. These include some of the most powerful items. But many of even the most powerful items are not Ex. All FFXI servers are identical in gameplay, so you won't find one where an item is Ex and another where it is not. FFXI does have a thriving player economy, with active crafting and trading occurring in items from the beginner level to the highest level.

I've never played EQ, so it's difficult for me to say how it compares. I do note that FFXI has a ranger class of its own. How similar it is to EQ's rangers, I couldn't say.

I played EQ for about 3 years back in the days and I started FFXI 4 months ago. During these 4 months Ive had more trouble with the game than I had in my 3 years of EQ. Login difficulties, lag, disconnects, auction house and search function doesnt work, emergency patches, long maintenance that doesnt fix a thing etc etc.

And all SE ever says is "We're sorry for any inconvinience this may cause". So if you look for good customer service I say look elsewhere.

The reason I get so pissed off is because the game itself is awsome. ppl complain about the time it takes to lvl but Id say its faster than old EQ. And most items are sellable in the AH so no worries there (though many items are really overpriced).

There is a Ranger class in FFXI as well, but its more focused on range attacks than rangers in EQ and a good rng really shouldnt melee much.

All in all, I think FF is quite similar to EQ and if you enjoyed EQ you will prob enjoy FF. Personally I had quite some issues with the UI at first but now I like it...I rarely use the mouse and thats better for the wrist...Keyboard ftw! (though a gamepad might be the best solution)

I really want to recommend you to buy FFXI but Im not so sure I should...this morning Ive been staring at a "We're having login difficulties" message and havent been able to play at all.

    ...Alright....
Pro: Part of the FF series.
Con: Major level grind past 50.
    Pro: Unique auction house system.
    Con: Horrible community.
Pro: The game has beautiful graphics.
Con: Squenix's idea about canceling your keycode after 3 monthes of inactiviation is kinda homo...

Equivelant of a level 70 RNG on EQ: I'd assume it would be a high level RNG on FFXI.
Bazaar System: Yes, FFXI has a bazaar system in which you can sell items from and buy from other peoples while you still move around and take part in the ongoing world of Vana'Diel.

As for a recommendation. You're not gonna get it. Keep playing EQ or wait for something else. All the MMO's of 2005 are kinda dying out and you should wait for the '06 releases.

    Lets se.

The Ranger class in FFXI isnt really a beginner friendly class, way to expensive, still a fun class imho.If you liked EQ alot you will probably like FFXI better than GW, WoW.

Both WoW and FFXI has nice trade systems, you dont have to stand around selling the items in person, you hand it in to an auctionhouse, better than the EQ system imho.

It you play long houers every day and want a game that will last for a hardcore gamer go FFXI. Grouping is requierd most of the time, if you are not a cookie cutter build dont expect any invites for houers while looking for a group.

WoW is the middle road, wont last as long but if you have limited time its still a fun game. Can be soloed easily, there is endgame content and PvP. But if you play long houers every day this game wont last sorry.

GW is more for people who like to play solo alot, the endgame is more caterd to arena type PVP. Though GW has a very good pvp system if you dont like PvP this game will get boring.

You could always test EQ2 if you havent, you never know.

When i first started playing (around the time it came out for PS2) everyone on there played EQ, and they said it was very similar. I for one havent played EQ, but, if it is like FFXI, i would like to try it.

haha grind after 50??? that game is a grind as soon as you start! i pre-ordered the game and quit before my free month was up. it takes forever to level. when i played, the community was crap, no help whatsoever. half the community is japanese players who either can't understand you or completely ignore you.

They erase account every 3 months and have the worst CS I ever meet with possibly the exception of NCsoft CS.

WoW is most certainly a better choice for the reasons states above, WoW CS is not good, but not as bad as FFXI CS.  And they won't erase your characters or account after a time.

This is the decision I've been considering for the last week or two, myself, except I'd be coming back to FFXI after leaving EQ2.

The pros of FFXI, I think are this: The world is freaking enormous, especially if you get the copy with both expansions (which is like $30), the nice people in the game are great and are willing to help you out at a moments notice (though I think you'll find this out in most games), there's a great deal of people playing at all hours of the day, you have plenty of choices in character classes and having a sub class is kind of nice.

The cons of FFXI: Leveling does take awhile. Depending on whether you find a good party or not, however, really effects the amount of time it takes you to level. I had parties in my mid-thirties that were getting me 2 levels in 3 hours, and I had parties that I deleveled almost twice in an hour. Finding a good party is tough. If you've got friends willing to play the game that you know will learn their jobs well and not get you killed, now is the time to get them on the game too. ^_^

Money is hard to come by. There are farming methods I learned that make the cash come in pretty fast. But I've also been told by a friend who still plays that gilsellers have really caused the economy to skyrocket. You could always buy some Gil, but I've always frowned on that activity, even though my best friend in the game did it because he said he never had time to farm.

There are some people that take the game way too seriously. This can include people that get really really really pissed when they die, even when it's obviously their own fault (hey man, you pulled the 8 goblins in the Jungles, it's not our fault they came crashing our party). This also includes those people that won't party with anyone else who doesn't have the completely best set of equipment that they can have, even when that equipment would only add a few mp or stats. I've found these types of people to be the most annoying.

I didn't have any trouble with the service for the game. While it was the first MMO I played, I came to understand patches were something that you had to wait for now and then. This time around, if I do play, I'll likely only be playing on the weekends, and likely early while my girlfriend is asleep for something to do. I have no idea how long it will take me to level up. Also, whoever thinks they erase your game key with your account must be on crack. I installed the game yesterday to see if it was true, went through the whole shpiel of getting a content ID (without paying) and the thing took my key without any problem. It may have changed recently, but really, I don't know. I guess I didn't sign up though.

My major feeling of why I don't want to resign is because I remember how much time I dedicated to the game in the first place. I don't really have that time, nor do I want to spend it again. You can save yourself a lot of time though by doing some research as to which class(es) you want to play as, and just working on them. Will save you from being a 31 War, 28 Blm, 41 Rdm, 15 Drg, 16 Drk, 22 Pld, ect ect. ^_^ This time around, I would be a Tarutaru Blm or Whm, and just stick with it. And the best thing about being a mage is, every party wants you.

Anyway, I hope this has been informative for you. I apologize for rambling on and on like this. Good luck, and if you decide to play, let me know. Maybe we can get on the same server. ^_^
