I've just started, moved from WoW cause the game just got really mundane after hitting Lv60
So far I'm loving L2, "one man's meat is another man's poison" so they say. Some people see a grind-fest with overpriced gear where as I see a game that takes time and dedication to excell in rather than hitting the level cap in a month then scratching your head!
I also play Guild Wars, which is a game very much centered around player skill, but its not really a mmo as most of it is instanced, you dont get that same feeling of community.
My opinion may change as it takes longer and longer to level, but so far I'm really glad I gave this a try

Why yes.. many many people play this.
Recently, if you were to look at the server info, you would see that some of the less populated servers were starting to show "normal" population. Also, Teon, the European server now shows full population like the Bartz server.
This game has changed quite a bit since it started. However... it's core is still the same... heavy grind, you can be pk'ed whenever and by anyone (well... except in towns). It also has problems with pro farmers but many games have that.
However, the noob areas are a bit light as most people have lvled up and out of them. Just mentioning it in case you sign in.
As a footnote, this game is extremely popular in Korea so there are ALOT of players there.

Yes, this game is thriving for sure. I've been playing since closed beta, and the population has remained strong though all of the chronicle releases. Yes, some have left us, but many also have returned. If you find yourself a fun party/clan, you too will soon be addicted. Everyone is anticipating the release of C4, which should be within a couple of months, if not sooner.
Chronicle 4 is adding quite a few features: 1. Land mass is growing considerably (servers are going 64bit) 2. new AI for the new mobs in these new lands 3. max lvl increased to level 78, which includes 3rd class change at lvl 75/76 4. Hero class (new official tournement, class vs same class (31 total heros per server)) 5. new official un-restricted class tournament. 6. Nobles classes.. for those that lvl there main's sub-class to lvl 75 7. New skills 8. New weapons 9. New armor 10. new accessories to individualize your character more. 11. Wedding tux/gowns 12. Fishing for items, plus new general item crafting for all 13. More towns, another castle that has 2 locations (instead of 1) where either can be taken to gain control. 14. More quests.. quests are growing considerably 15. 3 new pets, that must be trained/tamed - different from the already existing hatchlings and wolves 16. New War rules... now can be one sided wars 17. Castle seige and wars now increase pvp/pk scores 18. Crowns for the Kings... nobless I do believe get Wyverns to fly, along with Kings/Queens (already exists)
I could go on and on.. this is just from memory. Anyway, I fail to see any other mmorpg that has as much content, long lasting playability, and just extreme fun as Lineage2. Like I said though, if you want a momma's boy game, please don't play this game, it is not for you.
And, just a side note, bots have been reduced considerably... for a while to the point of non-existant. Most I see now are just professional farmers.... Though I do believe ebaying has self reduced itself, as items litterally can costs $100s, if not even $1000 rl dollars.... Yes, it sadly still exists, but for the most part, I think it's frowned upon. If you get a good clan/alliance, as a group, you will learn to help develop each other... as the clan only benefits from this support.
Anyway, great game, great graphics, great sound, and most of all great fun... those that say otherwise have ADD (attention deficit disorder), and probably have never lasted long in any game. (no comments necessary - as I could care less what your reply says)
Hmm... I don't really think it's self reduced itself. Items are actually cheaper now than they used to be. About a year ago, it cost about $9-11 (varies per server) for a million adena. Now it costs about $3 I think. So even though A-grade items are more expensive than B-grade or C-grade items, the actual money is cheaper. People put rare items on sale for 150 million adena and somehow they sell! I guess though, buying an A-grade item like that now costs about the same as buying a top B-grade item did before.
The game changes a lot over time. Every Chronicle makes the game better and better. This game has so many things that other MMOs don't. I feel it is actually still the best MMO on the market. If you are curious you should pick up another copy and play!
It's alive. I still know a lot of ppl playing it even thought some servers have extrem problems with cheaters. On Erica for example there are about 2 legit level 70+ toons and a few 100 people that cheated their way up there sitting in farmer trains (paid with real $$$) or botting 24/7 in bot trains. Ebaying is big on those servers and the amount of normal players that have no chance against those cheaters with their ebayed gear and their bought/botted levels is decreasing.
So if you chose on a server read the non official forums a lot, so you don't land on a mostly cheaters server.

Well, I have to say that L2 is a great game, but it's not for all. NCNA must do something to import some things for Europeans/Americans also, because this game is for 99%, Korean Style.. it's a very HardcoreGame.. you can't do nothing without help, so you MUST play in a certain method to obtain something.
There are so many negative aspects to the game, but there are also many positive aspects too. L2 with NC Korea is at 100% .. L2 with NC NA is at 30% of his potentiality.

I recently went back to L2 from WOW to.
I left when C1 was just out and now C4 is around the corner, and man has it changed!!!
L2 is still the best mmo out there.
