Alternative MMORPG

Some ideas of mine. Some are from others, but modified.

Permadeath

In ‘Alternative MMORPG’ there is an Permadeath after 100 times dying. This means after that many deads you can’t choose your character anymore.

Ancestors-system

In ‘Alternative MMORPG’ there is the ancestors-system. The ancestors system is going to be active if your character is Permadeath. At character creation the first time you choose a surname and after the Permadeath of your character you keep the surname. The ancestor-system has four functions.

The house and reputations that you characters have build are going to pass on to your new character. NPC will give you discount/something extra because your previous character helped them.

Family blood is a passive buff that gives you something extra for the things you have done with your previous character. Example: If your character was a master miner. Than you will get 5 % of his mining skills. Or if your previous character trained the swimming skill much, your new character can learn swimming faster.

Reincarnation is the skill you will get when you create the new character. The character is able to reincarnate in your previous character for a limited time. First it will be 5 seconds, but the better your skill in Reincarnation becomes the longer you can use it. You can do everything that your previous character could do. This means combat skills, but mining and swimming too. The cons of using reincarnation is when you die in reincarnation you will lose half of your life span. This means if you have 80 lives left It will be 40.

Ancestor mode is the skill you will get when you create the new character. This skill will trigger when you are in a hopeless situation. In this mode you will get an boost for all your previous ancestors. The buff makes you 10 % better in every aspect for each ancestors you had before.

Classes

In ‘Alternative MMORPG’ the class system is a little bit different from the standard MMORPG. There are 100 classes. All has their own unique skills and traits. That many classes make a difference with most MMORPGS, but is not all. In the ‘Alternative MMORPG’ it isn’t possible to choose your class. It is all randomly chosen.  To keep it fun for everyone each class will give you the possibility to fight with weapons, magic etc. The class you have isn’t only important for your skills and traits. The class decides how you will get experience.

Experience

There are 3 ways to get experience in Alternative MMORPG. It depends on your class how you will get exp. The highest level is 100.

Experience by killing. Each time you kill a player or a mob you will get exp.

Experience by regenerating health. Each time you regenerate health you will get exp.

Experience by dying. Each time you die you will get two levels up.

Economy

There will be few npc that sells items. The economy is controlled by the players.  There are no auctions houses so you really have to interact with players if you want to buy or sell something.
 

Changing world

The country in Altrenative MMORPG are going to change each week. They all have 8 different forms. This way you will get much variation and the chance will be little that your new character will be starting in the same area. You can choose the area you want your new character to begin in.

PVP

It is possible to attack other players in the world.  After you reached level 10 the game becomes dangerous.

The bounty system

The people that don’t pay tax will get a bounty on them. People that kill other people that don’t have an bounty on the will get a bounty on them. If they already have a bounty on them there bounty is going to get doubled.

Meditation

Meditation in the game will help you to train your intelligence. The higher your level in meditation become the sooner your meditation skill come available. Meditation skill depends on the play style you have. If you focus more on being a mage your meditation skill can be seeing in the spirit world. If you make weapons you can get an recipe.

    I like some of the ideas, though some of them I could pass on (classes for one, I'm more interested in skill-based systems).  Also what is the gameplay of the meditation?  Do you just sit around waiting for your intelligence to go up?  That sounds like a bit of a time-sink.

    No. I was thinking about walking in a maze. Each time you win and fight the monster, you will go futher levels in meditation. The higher the level of the meditation skill. The harder the maze and opponents.

    Interesting concept, but that seems to me ultimately just like another level-grind.  Also I don't think I understand how the perma-death works if you just get a new character with the same abilities... what's lost?

     

    EDIT: Oh I see you don't retain skills, you just get a bonus at relearning them.

    I don't have an good lore yet. It is only features that I think of. I don't like the grind-games. I think the game would be more pvp than pve.
