Hmm, I feel insecure with your latest anouncement Mark.
One reason why using kickstarter was that you have no publisher who can demand that the game follows his ideas. Now you announce that there is a publisher for international marketing, PR, community management and localization.
Can you clarify how much influence they have on the project? For me as german player, I remember the times when goa was our main contact.. well, things where not always smooth those days.
I would like some more information about this. Especially the localization thing. How do you secure that "they" make it right?
EDIT: Ok, so I get confused with Publisher and Publishing Partner. Sorry for that!
Anything is good, looking forward to put my money in

3... 2... 1... BOOM!!!!
Everyone stand back, this is going to get messy!
It doesn't bother me though. I mean really, If they are going to push it to other languages, it only makes sense that they have someone else helping out. It's got to be rough on small indie developers to handle a multi national launch of a game. Just relax though. I very seriously doubt that publisher has any say so in the matter of development. Maybe I'm wrong though.
I think it's really too early to jump to conclusions, unless you have a jump to conclusions mat..
Dark Age of Camelot had a great audience in Europe and Asia and Mark/CSE probably just wants to provide the same quality experience North American customers will be able to experience in a quality, local server based in your geographical location and localized native support.
I wouldn't feel worried about this announcement, in fact, I'd personally be excited. However, I was never apart of the GOA experience.
Shit!
I landed on "lose one turn."
What does that mean?
It looks to me like CF is localization for the Kickstarter campaign, not the game. So, they probably help reach markets with barriers, like language, cultural, or currency differences. CU is going to need some help in the marketing end, and opening up as much of the world as possible is a good thing for that.
Look at Torment's KS: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/torment-tides-of-numenera?ref=home_popular
That will give you an idea of what CU is up against. Torment has a dedicated community/group of players that is probably bigger than CU's right now. As of now, 32,000 backers and they're right around 1.7 million. They've already had KS campaigns for other projects, so the word was out. Also, even just on day 2, the flow of money is slowing. I think their last project hit 1.8 million, so it will be interesting to see if they go over 2 million.
To reach 2 million, thats $50 from 40,000 backers. DAoC was reported to have 250,000 subs at peak (I think.) If so, they'd need roughly 1 of 6 accounts to back this KS for $50. And that's not counting people who had multiple accounts, which were many.
CU is starting from scratch on CSE's first KS project. Even many former DAoC players probably are unaware of this. Word has to get out as far as possible.
yeah i really think those other guys will be partners only to promote CU in Europe/Asia.
Mark has stated clearly that he wants to make HIS game, not someone else's game. and if those guys can help to reach that 2 million in Kickstarter, hell i'm all up for it
Bowbow (kob hunter) Infecto (kob cave shammy) and Thurka (troll warrior) on Merlin/Midgard DAoC
Thurka on WAR
Umm, I think you misunderstand. They are simply helping us promote CSE/CU Kickstarter in Asia and Europe, that's why they are a "Publishing Partner" and not the publisher. We are currently self-publishing the game in the US and Europe and, as I've posted before this, we are talking to some folks in Asia about possible distribution deals down the road. CF is a contractor/partner for us, not the other way around.
As per our website:
...to help promote CSE and its Kickstarter for Camelot Unchained ™ (working title) throughout Asia and Europe.
Besides, if you look at the release, it describes what CF doe "CuriousFactory offers support for developers who want to challenge the world with their innovative ideas, specializing in crowd funding. CuriousFactory also provides marketing, PR and community management and localization support for clients who want to take their crowdfunding project global."

Soon. We just need to get a few more assets in place.
Have you signed up for our newsletter? If so, you'll hear about it first through there. We're just putting the finishing touches on our first newsletter so hopefully that will go out today.

Perfect! Yeah, I am subbed. Looking forward to it!
Me too. It's been a long year already getting MoO updates, the Kickstarter, personal stuff, etc. Launch day is going to be a very interesting one on so many levels.

My crystal ball says you will have at least 1.000.000 $ during the first 24 hours, I might even consider to forecast the funding of the kickstart with 2.000.000 $ on day one

That would be great, but I'm trying to temper my expectations. We've got to remember, two million bucks is a lot of money. Very few game projects launched on Kickstarter get anywhere near that kind of funding.
I'm cautiously optimistic that CU will exceed its goal and will be heartbroken if it doesn't. After being so exxcited and following Dominus so closely, I don't know if the MMORPGer in me can take another cancellation. I'm going to pledge as much as I can afford, and hopefully everyone else who believes in what MJ and CSE want to do will as well.
They work for us.

personally, I think that anything that can get a potentially great game into the hands of more people is a good thing for the MMO community as a whole.
"And that's not counting people who had multiple accounts, which were many." Oh Yes the Buffbot accounts, with Mythic Denied existed.... Still waiting for MJ to comment on this from my post of last week.
Daoc had a very loyal and relatively small cult following, compared to other MMORPG's. Unless I have told them, no one I know who played DAOC has even heard of CU.
I also don't know what would prompt a majority of people, in this economy, to forget all the bitterness they had from Dealing with Mythic, who mishandled soooo many things, crapped on their loyal customers over and over, to just forget and help fund a game without anything in return except the hope to rekindle the excitement they had a decade ago.
Personally I don't understand why a very wealthy man, would ask people to fund his business in which he reaps all the financial rewards. The reward of the people who are donating the money? Is to be charged more money on a monthly basis to pay for the game they helped pay to develop. If I was paying for stock in a company, as an investment, a company that I honestly believe is saying all the right things and has a great "Vaporware" game, a game that so far sounds like the perfect game I have been waiting for since I stopped playing DAOC, then I would be more than willing to put up a good chunk of money into this game. While what I wrote may seem cynical, I think before people open their wallets a lot of them will be asking the same questions.
I can't remember what MJ's goal is; I think it was 2Million (maybe it was 1 which is a bit more realistic). If he got 15K subscribers I would be shocked, that would require each one to pony up about $135 each to hit 2Mil.
That being said, I like everything I have heard from MJ so far and I (don't tell my wife) will be laying down a Benjamin on the devolopment.
