Anyone else think we will never see a quality mmo with old school rules ever again?
Games today are just too easy. Even older games that used to be hardcore now have switched to easy mode with every expansion. Graphics have improved. Too bad gameplay has gotten worse.
Are those of us that long to have that old school experience in a new game just SOL? Everytime I follow a game that remotely has what I'm looking for, the forums are flooded with people wanting to change the game to make it easier, so they do! Or they promise things and don't deliver.
There are soo many easymode themepark games out right now. Why can't we get just ONE new quality fraking game thats sandbox with hardcore rulesets?

yes because the older games were unbalanced and gameplay was not linear and forced imo. everything now needs to be and look proffesional. original eq for example was probably thrown together without huge plans of the future.
also i think players are so used to the mmo model . you have a target system so that takes out any aim element, and the tactical side of things is just understanding your role in combat, then rotating afew skills. unless a team thinks up something new and actually makes the game, (harder said than done) youll see this garbage reporduced forever.
I recently tried the Ghosts N Goblins online with the help of a friend of mine who can understand Korean, and guess what. The game is actually fun. The difficulty was still there and it depends on what character you like. From the Archer (the easiest) to the Fighter (the hardest). I chose the fighter class and it was difficult. Almost died several times. Though of course they change the rules that instead of a 2 hit death, the characters now have life and mana bars.
You tried the game? I really would like to try the game myself. Too bad I don't know any Koreans to help me out.

I remember when Darkfall was launched it was realy hardcore mobs where very very tough and you could harvest wood with one click at time no auto chop wood from tree.
But forums and ingame where flooded with complains and demands of game should be more casual friendly same old argue ive not much time to spent ingame, affraid fallen behind the hardcore.
Then devs made some improvements on that auto harvest mats and more easy mobs where people happy nah not a chance they start on mass scale exploiting/macroing like crazy so they even almost have no sweat or hardship to skill up.
I doub even when a game developer try getting a mmo that stays truely hardcore can hold ground and won't bow to the demands of casuals.
Playing Asheron's call2 now i remember before legions mobs where hard and it was real challenge after legions expansion they dumb it down and now its sometime challenge but its now casual freindly:(
There only a few left who realy want a challenge rest 99% want easy mode.
Many newer mmo's have a tendency to baby players and hold their hands in terms of difficulty in gaming and other things. There has been scaling back and plenty re-faced knock-offs from World of Warcraft. Recall when it was actually an achievement to get a rare weapon in the game. Not to have 50 other people get the same item in less than two minutes or so.
Bring back perma-death and other content that made MMO's worth-wild and captivating again in an updated and improved form. When devs actually thought outside the box were adventerous and made their games different. Instead of relying on redundancy.
Well, one thing you can always guarantee around here: a title like that will nearly always draw a nearly unlimited number of "Me Too"s. Pandering to the angst.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
I agree, Darkfall was fun during release, not so much after. I think devs shouldnt even read the forum complaints , other than bugs. A small percent of the palyerbase posts on forums, and if they do, what else other than about something that frustrates them.
Also, in response to quote, im playing ac2 also But that game is really boring after you reach around level 50. It is a pure grind and nothing else to do. I'd hope for improvements but apprently the team has to learn the original devs code, so i would imagine they will add new stuff but very slowly.
One of their top priorities on the forums is to allow players to Automove with 2 mousebuttons pressed.. and players praise that .. lol i thought it was a joke at first.
