Terrible idea. Permadeath by definition means you do not resurect, meaning you would have to recreate your character each time you died (why?). That might be quaint after one or two deaths, but I garuantee it would become an iritation one couldn't be bothered to deal with.
They do this and I guarntee the game will fail. Open pvp(aka gankfest with immature brats running all over), and perma death are some of the top 2 reasons people will steer clear of a mmo.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
He was sarcastic. I really doubt he is going to kill his msot ambitious project by implementing permadeath.

Casuals doesn't mean people looking for easy mode but people who does not have 10+ hours a day to play video games. I don't know why people associate word casual with 'dumb'.
There is nothing difficult about MMOS..it is all about time sinks and how much free time you got on your hands.

because they usally like to make it so the "casual" gamer can play most of the game so they tend to lighten the difficulty like taking away most of the heroic mobs in EQ2 or adding AA so you can pretty much solo 90% of the game

The reason why SOE took away most of the heroic mobs and changed heroic quests into solo is because of the population problems. When game is as old as EQ2 it is expected there won't be much influx of new players making it hard to find groups. With every new content update they add lots of heroic content and as it gets older and people move to next zone they reduce the difficulty so that new players don't have to sit on their ass twidling their thumbs in hope of finding groups. All old MMOS revisit older content and adjust its difficulty based on its population.
It has nothing to do with being casual or hardcore.

Casual player here due to real life being more important than a game. When I do play, I enjoy a challenge because easy content is boring to me. So, us “casuals” are just as diverse as non-casuals.
If a game is made from the beginning with challenging solo as well as challenging group play, then there is no "dumbing down" as so many like to say.
Funny thing is, in my experience, I find that completing game content is easier and faster while in a group. Now, that is what I call “dumbing down” content.

well that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. but for me i found it much more boring soloing and being able to take out whole groups of mobs 3 or 4 levels above me without breaking a sweat.
People often seem to equate "challenging" to "time-consuming" and I don't know why. Casual MMO gamers don't like time-consuming stuff. Many of them are older guys who have played games so difficult they make Dark Souls look like Sims. They don't mind challenging content. What they do mind is pressing W for 20 minutes straight just to get to the actual gameplay or sitting in town for an hour trying to get a tank. None of that is challenging.

well seeing im more of a casual gamer myself i dont know how you can speak for what i like and dont like. i would much rather have a mmo that makes me have to interact with other people then to just log in and go off on my own and play. if i want that i would of just stuck with a rpg. but thats just me

Grouping to run content is not the only way to interact in a mmorpg. Many casual players enjoy being around others in a busy city, buffing others, chatting about game aspects or bartering goods to other players on an exchange. The various social aspects and constantly updated gameworld are what draw us to the game.
Oh and guess what? I also enjoy the occasional group-up. It can be fun if you are able to weed out the probability of being hooked up with a cretin (seems to be one in every group).
This is about all I will say because we are turning this thread into another group vs solo, casual vs hard mud wallow.

I never said casuals don't enjoy grouping up or interacting with other people. However, by definition a casual gamer is someone who doesn't spend a lot of time gaming, which is why that someone usually doesn't enjoy pointless time sinks.

WTF now he taking ideas from Diablo?
Permadeath unless its a new system of it, like a passed on thur generations kind is bad for a mmo.
....Being Banned from MMORPG's forums since 2010, for Trolling the Trolls!!!
Smedley told someone that was afraid of losing everything in PVP to man up.

It was a joke apparently:
@j_smedley
In case people did not catch the sarcasm I was kidding about EQN having permadeath
