Is this internet fast enough to play mmo's and rts games online?

768Kbps download speeds and up to 384Kbps upload speeds

I have comcast now but it is not stable connection. I am unable to play rts games with this internet.

Would 768Kbps download speeds and up to 384Kbps upload speeds be fast enough to play mmos and rts games online?

As long as your not downloading or streaming at the same time that will work fine, I used to run on 350K down and 128k up with no problems, could have 2 people in the house playing the same mmo on that connection with out problems.

Online games don't require very much bandwidth apart from downloading and patching the game.  That should be several times what you actually need.  The real issue is latency--and more to the point, essentially every packet needs to arrive quickly, not just most of them.

I finally got rid of mine and got cable, much needed as my son got older and we got more stuff on our house wifi, getting 32meg down and 2.5 up now for 50$ a month so really happy about that

you should be good but its really all about ping cause even modern online games don't actually use up tons of bandwidth (this is good in light of Canada and many other countries curtailing usage by limiting total gigabytes downloaded a month) i.e. a game like planetside 2 only uses about 30kb/second, if that. if you're getting internet lag and not computer based graphical lag then it's your ping.

use http://www.speedtest.net/ to check your bandwidth, but also to check your nearest server's ping, ideally in the states you want your ping to be no greater than 20ms, as you'll be connecting all over the country and possibly all over the world to other users and servers. So 20ms means that a north american counter strike server will yield usually 60ms latency. other games vary especially when you start connecting all over the world like on an ancient-game like AoE where not many North Americans are still playing.

EDIT: Even in light of your name, "Funcon", a slander against a company that I've always loved even in light of some of their debaucles, most notably AoC, due to the hype generated during the mmo-boom of the late early 2000's, I still wish you good luck in finding the internet connection that meets your financial and latency concerns simultaneously. I do love Funcom as while they've made mistakes, they always rectify their mistakes to the best of their ability because as a small company they don't take on more than they can handle, and have only made their greatest mistakes when they've tried to live up to expectations beyond their capacity. I always hope that they'll stay in the game, and build their credibility further with the kind of innovation that started with their first mmo, Anarchy Online.

Certainly a game like the Secret World proves their innovation, even if some find it a not fully satisfying game, the initial investment of $50 made it a spectacular investment for the combination of a intricate story-line and well thought out puzzle play with the immersive environment of an mmorpg.

Well to be honost it will work, but it also depends on your playstyle.

If you are into pvp or raiding where there are many people around you, you might try to consider higher speeds.

This is based on me having a fibre connection and reading much lag complaints in games I honostly have zero lag where ever which makes me wonder what type of connection they have...

Have quite the same on my side, but then 3Mbps up, including unlimited national phone and mobile phone coverage for only €37,50 a month :p

@OP Seems fine to me. I started with 512kbps/64kpbs long ago and was able to play MMOs as well (Lineage II), though with the really big sieges things die get laggy at times...

The bandwidth is good enough if you've got a good connection and really get that bandwidth with good latencies, even during peak hours.

However if your net operator has sold more bandwidth than they actually have, and during peak hours your network performance jumps up and down because the operator's network is busy, then the bandwidth wouldn't be good enough. Good and stable connection is more important than bandwidth while playing online games.

EDIT: You can check how much bandwidth you use while playing by using a program like NetLimiter: http://www.netlimiter.com
