December marked the end of the physical printing of EVE Online's EON magazine as publishers felt it would do better as digital only. January, however, marks both the first and last digital copy of EON as CCP Games has announced the end of all versions.
EON was conceived when the death of print publishing was loudly being proclaimed and gaming magazines seemed to be dying with prompt regularity. Against such a dark background, the idea to devote an entire publication to one game (and in 2005 a comparatively small one) seemed ever-so-slightly insane, and yet in spite of all predictions - including our own wildest ambitions - EON managed to thrive for a good few years and survive a good few more. In that time we've been honoured to work within a community of gamers that has no equal, aiming to mirror its efforts so that we might do them justice. To them - to you - EON will stand as a lasting tribute that will persist - gathering dust perhaps, but immune to digital extinction - for at least as long as New Eden itself.

Well I play EVE but I never read EON. I find it troublesome that we are doing away with print media in favor of digital. Atleast hardcopies can be saved. Think of all the newspaper clippings have saved, will we be able to do that soon? Digital can fail. No one seems to acknowledge that.

EON was a great publication. I remember sitting in the airports heading out to some distant place, reading my EON publication. it had such rich graphics and well written stories. People would look over my shoulder and remark what a beutiful and well layed out magazine it was. I am sorry to see it leave.
My worst complaint about the publication was that I could never get them to ship from the US, but instead they woudl ship from England, which almost doubled the subscription price, whcih was high already for a quarterly pub. I was glad when they went digital, and the Zinio reader is pretty good whenI am at home, but again , I usually find myself in airports, without a tablet and only my smartphone in hand, and you could not read the magazine there (though Zinio does work for other mags on the iPhone).
I met some of the EON staff when i was at FanFest a few years ago, and they were greta people to know and had fun at the party and carousing downtown Rekyjavik. I wish them well in their next endevours wherever they may land.
There's a certain correlation between the first sentence and the second.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein
