I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice if throughout the game there were mechanics in place that coudl give rise to "heroes" for each realm (on that specific server, so it's server based).
What if there was a way for the game to signify a person in the game for doing a great dead, which separates him for what he does on the battlefield, or even off it (crafters, etc).
One of the rewards some people have suggested for the kickstarter is having a statue in-game for that person donating, this got me thinking, could there perhaps be a way for something like this to be handeled by the game in some way?
I'm not a programmer or developer by any means, so I do not know if it's feasible or not. However to me it would seem possible for the game (since it stores the characters on the server and has all the info about them) to be able to take a persons character, and then have a way to turn it into a "Statue" (IE just change his colouring to a bronze-like colour or a stone colouring, so it looks like a statue instead of the actual persons character) and have it be placed in logical places, IE within a certain town, pre determined locations where a statue can exist (perhaps in the "safe" area's for each realm, there's like a "Hall of heroes" that has statues in it for sucha purpose).
In many mmo's there are certain people that can get famous, rather it be from someone who's very skiled at what they do in combat, to a crafter who's extremely known for making good wares and other things.
Wouldn't it be neat to see some kind of monument, or other things that helps players that make such a large impact within that world more reconizible? It would help developt he communiuty, by allowing real players to be reconigzed and become "heroes" of their realm., fostering within the player base that those people they see monuments to are other players and maybe one day,t hey could have their character be there as well.
I'm sure there are other neat things some of you could think of as well that could be done to honor players of exceptional skill in that kind of regard.
Something that could be done for players of all types, from skilled combat , to strategic use (IE taking over structures) to crafters, to other types of characters.
Perhaps even honoring those people who reach that kind of status with ia special (purely cosmetic) item, such as a weapon or armour skin, a cloak, helmet, something unique that when you see them in game you know they've accomplished something great or did something that really helped their realm.
Just a small idea I think would be neat, but certainly not something major, just a neat little rpg type of thing.

Perhaps it could even tie into this.
For example if on the battlefield you kill a person known as a "hero" and in-return you become known as the "Slayer of xxx"
This could lead to some great rivaliries and things, maybe you could even tie in a type of "title" system to it. Imagine if there's an extremely well known fighter that everyone on that server knows about, and you kill him in battle and then you can have htat title displayed for people to see.
yeah it could be nice to have achievements of some sorts, but WITHOUT knowing how to obtain it. They had something like that in WAR, but you knew exactly what you had to do to get the titles.
It would be fun to NOT know how you get the titles...otherwise titles are a bit meaningless as everyone would try to get them.
i.e a title could be "The exterminator" and it could be achieved by killing 1 of each class in one ennemy realm in one "life" (a.k.a kill 1 of each class without dying).

Ingame recognition is always nice.
And I really like Bowbow's idea. You could have a bunch of different ways to be recognized, but keep the formulas hidden. Hopefully the devs could come up with ways to earn these through play that directly relates to doing things "for the realm", rather than hard point totals. Its definitely something worth discussing.
Didnt Warhammer have statues in the major cities with the top earners or something for each class? something along those lines.
Would love to see something like this again. Maybe a title and a colour change to your name so all sides on the field of battle can instantly recognise you.
Thanks, yeah it would be so much better that way i think. would give also a feeling that your realm gave you the "title", not only something you worked to get because you actually knew what to do to get it..

Sure it can be hidden... just once. After getting it, everyone will know about it. Titles will be on websites
Anyway I think titles in daoc were also hidden.
For example nobody knew about Battle Assasin until somebody got it. Not many people achieved 25k deathblows. I was surprised when I got this title.
It would be great to reward players more for killing people who have higher ranks.
BTW i was so unhappy there wasn't title for having 25k hib db's I hated them so much...
Not necessarly, it would only be known HOW to get it if they post it, but then again, why post it ?
Also, it could be broadcasted when someone achieve something special, talk about pride

How bout villains of the realm? Depending on what role deities play, imagine a statue of a player that has been absolutely owning your realm being erected by the gods in your home town and lasting until someone kills them (unless they are gone long enough, in which case it could crumble.)
Man, that would piss people off.

Glow on their name?
So like a sign that says, "All enemy players please immediately focus fire me into oblivion!" ? I'm not too sure how well that would go over.
