New Game to Play..?

in Star Wars Galaxies

I have cancelled my SWG account due to the newest publish but I want to play a game that is similer to the way it was before SOE srewwed everything up... My issue is with the new combat system and control interface... Could anyone tell me of a game that plays the way SWG did prior to the publish 25..?

    MMORPG’s where you  have to chose to be an elf, orc, dwarf or a human and then go kill spiders and such makes me sick!

    I'd recommend Saga of Ryzom first and foremost. Not only does it feature a skill system which allows you to build you own character, but there is very little directed content (relying instead on live events). Right now, the game is pretty much grind-only because of it, but the upcoming Ryzom Ring expansion will allow players to create their own content and I hear that their PvP outpost system will FINALLY be making it into the game.

    Horizons is still a class based game, but you retain class levels and can switch between them easily, allowing you to be everything, if not always at the same time. It's also got a crafting system second only to SWG, in my opinion. And you can play as tiny little fairies or even dragons. It went through a rough period (rougher than even SWG is going through), and there is a LOT of mistrust against the project lead (David Bowman, I think), but I hear the game has slowly been picking itself back up and becoming much better.

    Dark and Light will be having a trial out sometime this month, so check that out as well. Roma Victor looks pretty interesting as well. Haven't played either, so can't comment on them.

    However, you specifically mention the combat system and control interface. Prior to the NGE, SWG had pretty much the identical interface to any number of other MMORPGs. If that's your main concern, definitely check out Everquest 2. It's a much better game than it used to be, and more popular than ever.

    Thanks for your feedback... I dont have any interest in any game run by SOE because if they could screw up SWG they can screw up anything... Fantasy as well as Sci-fi games are good by me... I did download the free trial of EVE and I like it so far...

    You are welcomed to think whatever you want about SOE, but you should at least be aware that SWG and EQ2 (and EQ and Matrix for that matter) all have separate decision makers and separate community relations teams - and at least as far as SWG and EQ2 are concerned, they operate at polar opposites. EQ2 just had a combat revamp a few weeks ago, but you aren't still hearing about it like you are SWG's CU which was six months ago. Different teams = different approaches.

    As for EVE Online, I hope you find what you are looking for. Personally, I found the EVE community to be... um... "cultish" (and not in the good way).
