Hi all,
I fell in love with star wars galaxies on 06/28/03 when i first created my character on the Bria server. Prior to that I had been an active beta tester contributing to the very pre-beta nature of the game. While many beta testers complained that the game wasnt ready for the 06/03 launch, I was excited to get started on an adventure of a lifetime in the star wars universe. Even without vehicles or space the game was a blast. Meeting other games in this universe was the most fun I have ever had (still) in any MMO game. I have played WOW, Guild Wars, Lineage 2, UO, Planetside, Anarchy Online, City of Heroes, and I honestly beleive my most fun was in the Star Wars Galaxies universe.
I logged in to try out the NGE changes, and I am so disgusted with what is happening. They took a vibrant customizable engine, and turned it into an action game for consoles. I can't stand the profession tree's, I hate the combat movement.
Worst of all , the game looks and feels like a cheap WOW knock off. Its like SOE admitds that WOW is a better game (it isn't) and emulates it.
I'm finished, and i'm trying to let anyone new to the game know where a veteran player comes from.

Yeah this game is done for, not even the loyalty of Star Wars fans can save this piece of s**t from dying. Oh well, time to pack up my blaster and head to EVE.

Although I agree and understand where you are coming from, I have no choice but to reserve judgement to myself.

Im gonna give it a shot if i like it ill keep around if not well the cancel button is just a few clicks away. I will say to all SWG fans keep your eyes on Tabula Rasa the game strikes me posibly as what SWG couldve/shouldve been.

Heard something quite similar, but with Oprah, two days ago in a different forum. It's also off-subject. If he had managed to use someone Star Wars related, at least he would've scored on style. On the whole, I give it a 3. It's unoriginal, lacks style and effort, but was appropriately snide and trollish.
I don't like from NGE - and I don't subscribe SWG anymore, but I don't think that it is going to be doomed. More likely playerbase is transforming to another different kind playerbase. NGE has already created lots of interest among players who haven't never tried SWG (and don't really know SOE's recent history) and among players who have tried SWG before, but didn't like from it.
It is going to be intresting to see how this transformation is progressing. Currently it seems like that they have huge technical difficulties and SWG is again in early beta phase.

I started playing this game in the summer of 03. It was my first mmorpg so I was very interested to see what all the fuss was about. After a couple of weeks getting into it I began to thoroughly enjoy the game, gaining skills, friends, items etc. Then vehicles were introduced and I was convinced that this game, unlike any other Id ever played would be for the long term.
9 months later i had gathered a vast collection of items from all over the galaxy and was making a mint from my miners, harvesters and was loving my time in the galaxy. Then suddenly I experienced an unforseen problem with my isp which meant i couldnt get online for over 3 months. I was having withdrawal problems during this time. Then the problem with my isp was fixed and I got back online and what did I find when I returned to the game? Absolutley everything I owned had dissapeared along with my houses and harvesters etc. All I had left was what was on me and in my pack.
So I had faithfully paid my subscription for all that time and spent 100's of hours in the game making up my characters only to see it all dissapear through no fault of my own.
I got no joy whatsoever from soe so with great frustration I abandoned the game and I still feel cheated.
If I had a dollar for evertime ive heard that SWG is dead...I could have retired already. I have played the NEG and I like it. Some don't...to each his/her own....one last question...Can I have all your stuff before you bail?
Too soon to say. I'm not happy about the NGE either and I'm currently still cancelled but I'm giving it an honest try on the free trial. I'll probably tinker around with the trial awhile and see how I like the various aspects of the game. I intend to give all 9 iconic professions a thorough workout before I make a final decision. I posted my initial thoughts on it in another thread... I'll make my own 'pre-review' thread once I've tried more of the game later this week.
Bottom line:
Too soon to be making any predictions about the growth or demise of SWG. From what I've seen of the NGE I *can* see that it does have the *potential* to be a very good change to the game. Whether it *is* remains to be seen.
I'm going to give the game a thorough working over before I make any decisions about my *currently cancelled* subscription.
