As a long time player of SWG (original beta), DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!
I just cancelled one of my accounts, and I'll be cancelling my other soon enough if things dont go through drastic changes from what they just implemented.
Yes you can play as a jedi from the get go.
JEDI SUCK NOW!
Bounty hunters can no longer hunt jedi now. Doesn't matter anymore, because jedi are no longer a viable class in that game, as a decent ranged person can completely pwn them.
I have a jedi and a bounty hunter and a crafter from before this new change, and I'm telling you, it's not worth it.
So many hours I've put into that game, and all of it ruined because the game's being converted over to a PS3 port! (I KID YOU NOT! Look on the ps3 website)
The SWG community overall is NOT happy with this change, and I'll spit on that game that I've played for >2 years when it's turned into THAT!
With the new station that they just added on to the beginning, I do have to admit, it is fun! Best part that they've implemented into the game, but it doesn't give a true representation of what the game is like at later levels.
This was SOE's last straw for me. I won't be playing anymore of their games.
I might have to go back to playing WoW. Picked that up as a side game, and it wasn't bad, but before I could always go back to SWG. Not anymore.
If you do decide to play, do so at your own risk, and don't think I didn't warn you :P
Anybody have a new game out there I could try? Eve was ok, but got boring pretty quick. Suggestions?

But no, I wasn't a finished template jedi :P I could care less if jedi are good or not.
I lived, breathed, and pvp'd as my BH. Just went jedi to get the alt (I'm imperial, and wanted a human for imperial faction perks :P )
However, I have had the best of both worlds, and now, post NGE standards, my jedi is uber :P, but the game just sucks now.
Havn't tried it? Dont believe me? Don't care. Game's ruined. Try it for yourself if you want an opinion.
jedi whiners? ill agree with original poster, SWG sucks major A$$ it just aint how it used to be, all melee suck now, all ranged have to do is run away spamming the same little mouse button and the melee are dead.
there are 15 SWG servers. a few thousand in each i would think.
if they put just 5 servers of publish 5 - 8 making 20 servers i would bet any amount of money that them 5 servers would be so populated it would outnumber all 15 other servers.
ive today just cancelled all 7 of my accounts, there is no way i am paying another penny towards that desaster of a game.
the only way i would rejoin that game is if there was new servers in place without none of this cu crap.
Me and two of my mates resubscribed today, well be enjoying ourselves now that overpowered jedi are gone.

I will not be getting a sub for this! If I wanted mouse combat I'd go play Battlefront 2.
well I hated CU @ 1st, but that quickly grew on me, and I ended up having TOO much fun (college and college life suffered b/c of it :P )
But if you say good ridance, than I laugh in your face sir, and when you see how botched this game has become, you'll join us.

While I can get behind this 100%, it really does prove they got nerfed pretty hard.

Old SWG system = very difficult to expand on.
New SWG system = at last a high end game.
Okay there are a lot of Jedi running about (not very realistic) but then its a phase. Compare it to wow and night elves, yes lots of them and shouldnt be but so what.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
Selling an expansion and then, only a few short weeks later, announcing a second major rewriting of the combat rules and dumping tons of classes, is unconscionable and inexcusable. They've realised their "mistake" by offering refunds, but that doesn't alter the fact that SOE, by doing what they did, established something they really didn't want to establish:
They have been working on this rewrite for months. They knew they were going to do it even as they were finishing the Obi-Wan expansion, but didn't alter the expansion at all or delay its release to incorporate the new ruleset and revised (much shrunken) class list. They went ahead and sold the expansion, knowing full well that it was invalidated by their changes only weeks after release. All the SOE naysayers can sit back and crow, because that one act demonstrated SOE's true level of concern for their playerbase, for fair-play, for decent and ethical business practices, etc.
I've never been a "let's bash company X", but this is so utterly dispicable that I'm glad I don't have any active SOE subscriptions anymore.
Unfortunately for me, can't go back to WoW -- too static, too split-personality (level 1-59, solo-centric; level 60, RAID-only focus; huh?), too many millions of 12-yr-old mentalities. Back to DAOC I go...
I agree. However, consider the fact that this is an MMO. It was difficult to build in the first place, and according to your typical responses from SOE management over the years, actually impossible.
This I disagree with just because it's a matter of content and immersion. The concept of the iconic professions is certainly not a new one. But, this was the thing that the SWG dev team was missing all this time. It's about...what the character can do as their profession of choice.
This is the BASIS of any game let alone an MMO, that is devoted to an existing saga with an existing fan base.
The combat changes suggest to me that peoples' necks were on the chopping block here, and otherwise nothing is ever done at the hallowed halls of SOE. In order to make it fun they were finally forced to implement content into the professions, but more than likely claimed it was impossible to accomplish like everything else.
So, they have a time table to accomplish all this, and the only way to do it was to reduce the combat system to it's current state.
Make Fun By Tuesday = Need Basic Combat System
Yeah. My guess is that they are going to eventually phase out Jedi entirely from the game and replace them with more numerous mundane iconic professions as time passes. They didn't want to totally wreck their playerbase initially, so they retained Jedi for now to let people go see for themselves how lame it is to be one.
Jedi never belonged in this game in the first place, so getting rid of them allows for greater concentration on that what makes it Star Warsy, and phase one is to get rid of all the saberhumpers.
Night Elves = too many adolescents playing the game on 3rd person view watching their hawt character prancing around and listening to her grunt in combat. You sound like you are brushing it off, but this was a terrible design decision on the part of Blizzard. Hawt chix in Alliance, ugly crap in Horde. All the BNET kiddies made hawt chix...EQUALS PVP IMBALANCE. This is the main reason why it's 3 to 1 Alliance to Horde in WoW.
Things aren't necessarily as dumbed down as the combat system in SWG. There is greater depth of meaning in everything a development team does, whether positive or just plain stupid.

The verdict is still out on this one. I left SWG because of the grind (grinding to Master Architect was a nightmare), came back for Jump to Lightspeed, left again of the grind, and now back again for the NGE. I can't say that I'm impressed but I only played a little bit so far.
I don't care much for the over the shoulder view. To me it seems that they just lowered SWG to be more like Planetside but with a Star Wars theme. With all the bugs I think the NGE should have stayed on the test servers a bit longer. I paid a month's subscription so I guess SOE has until then to shape up or it's back to City of Villains for me.
P.S for some reason since the new forums were installed, I cannot post comments nor bugs on any of the forums at SOE. maybe it was their way to containing the complaints.
Wait until you see the new grind. They've been running some serious XP numbers and the XP nerf not only went in.. but it is worse.

So now they sneak it in again with all the other bullsh1t in the hopes that it will pass, because everything else is so screwed up? That plus they're counting on their potential PS3 crowd to pick up where the old SWG vets leave off, so to hell with us again?
SOE ought to take every one of them and wheel them, their computers, their desks and EVERYTHING into the Colorado, and be done with them once and for all.
I have NEVER seen such a conglomeration of stupidity in my entire gaming experience.

Not only that.. but UNLESS THIS IS A BUG... you don't respec with any XP. You get the LEVELS, but no xp. So if you want to get to CL81 and more, you have to start with ZERO xp and grind all the way up to what CL80 is (over a mil) before you work on 81.
If they use the words "as intended" to explain that.. they might just want to put a link to the cancellation page in the post to save everyone the trouble.

Yeah I noticed that last night. I was a Master Artisan and Master Architect. I respec to structure trader to see what I would get, and I guess they put me at the highest level but all the skills had no XP. What is even better my character screen said level 1 Trader.
I went with Spy by the way.

I have been a vet since day of SWG. I was the leader of Corbantis's only Imperial role-play guild for almost two years before this destroyed all we had built. I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly from SOE and this is by far the worst.
This "downgrade" has ruined all that once held promise. Dont waste your money on spin from SOE!
