I hope we get some hawt chicks playing this game... and I mean IRL chicks, NOT the "guy players" you see running around with their half naked characters in City of Heroes/Villains. image

Well, I would tend to disagree with your apprisement, that most female toons in MMPORGS are males. I am not an expert in the matter, but after reading your post I decided to do a little research of this topic. I'll summarize what I found since there are many articles on this topic, all with a similiar theme of course image:

    1. 30 - 40% of the video game players in the market are females. This narrows down a bit once you introduce consoles. Women tend to average only 30% of the market for consoles.

    2. **The following may be offensive since they are mostly stereotypes, and I hate to stereotype anyone/person/group** (except for people who want MMPORGs to be more like singleplayers games hehe) The following are not my beliefs and I don't subscribe to their theory or practice.

    • Females tend to prefer creative, puzzle solving games.(they obviously didn't talk to my sisterimage )
    • There would be more female players in the market if developers started creating their content to address the female market. For example, strong, female leads.
    • Girls are not out to break the hi-score in games. They are more interested in the aesthetics(appearances, characters/etc.) and plot/storyline.
    • Customization: The more clothing and personal options: like tattoos, makeup, lipstick, earrings, etc. that are available, the happier the female player/market. They obviously haven't talked to some of the male players either. Most male players want these same things! Well, minus the lipstick.. hopefully.image
    • Most games, singleplayer, tend to not depict women at all. Meaning, they are not part of the video game. This ties in with the necessity for more lead role casts for female players.
    • Most developers, questioned, still subscribe to the: "What difference does it make what the females wear or how they are portrayed in games. Only guys play games.." **I find this hard to believe, but I am posting it for you to make your own decisions**

Those are just a few of the bullet points that I could stomach adding, since most are just more or less, what I consider stereotypical. But, you are free to make your own decisions relating to this. But, what I do think, is that there are more females playing the same game you are than you would otherwise think.

It is true, that at one time there were hardly any female, video game players in the market. But, that is a myth that needs to be squashed. The video game industry and it's troupe of developers, toil under the stereotypical perception of the industry. And that is that only males play video games. Which is why we see a majority of scantily clad women, whom some, are most obviously guys flaunting their creativityimage, while others are female players trying to dress their toons in what clothing options and customization is available to them. Which, all goes back to women being treated like sex-objects. Now we get to relive that revolution all over again in the video game industry.

Most video game industry analysts agree that there needs to be more diversity in games to address the changing market. But, with the deep-rooted perceptions(or misconceptions, however you want to look at it) in the video game industry, it may be some time before adequate progress can be made in reshaping the video game industries perception of the market.

And, from some studies performed, approximately 4% of video game devlopers are female. Which is probably why we have the scantily clad females running around ! hehe

Anyway, this post was not meant to argue, or otherwise hurt the original posters' feelings or injure the perceptions or beliefs of anyone reading it. Just a little bit of typing based off what facts I was able to garner off some research. With my own personal flair added to it.image

    Heh.
I'm occasionally taking part in small Day Of Defeat (WW2 shooter) LAN-parties, which is the sort of game that should really drive away creative, puzzle seeking girls. But we still get the occasional girl, maybe one in ten players.
Which is not much, but you still could get lucky meeting someone ::::39::

Nope. I checked. The only people living near me are old grandparents and fat chicks with a dozen kids, most likely to a dozen different fathers. image

Ok, if you want a strong female character that appeals to the new woman of today you start with one produced from years of brainwashing by the feminist movement. One that puts career first and family on the back burner. One that climbs the corporate ladder, tries to out earn her husband (that she only keeps around to feed her materialistic hunger and warped sense of entitlement). Then have her pop a kid out that's stuck in day care, bringing home cold viruses every week just to make things interesting. Have her get fat from sitting at her desk all day and start giving her husband hell for not being attracted to her until he gets fed up and leaves. Then she'll lose all the weight to nab another poor unsuspecting soul and start the process all over again. Nevermind that neither she nor her daughters will ever have the skills of homemaking and nurturing necessary to facilitate harmony and sound mental health in the home or find the happiness that only a natural, role based household can provide. Now obviously in order for her to accomplish this harmony, her bread winning, war fighting, knight in shining armor husband must be sober, responsible, and treat her like the hawt, perfect queen he desires, nothing less. Then they will both get what they want and live happily ever after producing children that do the same. You have to alter the mindset of the politically correct lemmings before you solve this problem. Think about it.

I'm not going to comment on this, but I would recommend getting your flame retardant suit ready, because this will piss people off.

I think it's definatly important to have girlies into a game. They add a whole different element. Girls think differently then guys do so i guy playing a girl char wont help, one of my friends is a gamer girlie and she participates differently but i find games seem to be more varied with a girl playerbases and more fair. One study proved that a world made entirely of guys would have moved much faster at a tecnological rate but would have killed itself long before it created anything where as a girl community would move at a much slower pace. You need generic guy minds to have a cut throat world and you need generic girl minds to have a more stable one. Not to offend anyone but these are my two cents. I will admit that some guys have a more generically feminine play style and vice versa but a few players wont stablize or damn a world.

Heh. All the women I know who play WoW say it's made them more bloodthirsty. ::::02::

Text-based shouting matches with 13-year-olds will do that. ::::35::

Ahh, the joys of general chat image

Staying on topic here, I've known several women IRL who play games and a good number of them preferred the "quieter" classes such as crafting or exploring. Owning a pet also ranked up pretty high (think creature handler from pre-kill SWG).

Given the scope of FE and what the devs plan to do with it, I dont see attracting a varied player base to be too much of an issue.

Heh, it would be neat to see a husband-and-wife type partnership happen in FE.. To be stereotypical for sake of example, the husband fending off wild irradiated beasts in close combat while the wife escapes to a higher vantage point to snipe at the creatures, and give the husband tactical advice..

...Followed soon after by the husband carrying all the wife's taming materials while she goes off in search of something cute and fluffy. ::::02::

    Hummm.... Fuzzy. image

Well if FE had something like the SWG entertainer class, in depth crafting, more social outlets, some type of pet controller class and in general other things to do aside from going out and smacking mutants over the head with a big stick, then I am sure women will embrace this game.

I am still at a loss as to explain why women have really flocked to World of Warcraft, however I think it may have to do with:

    - The ability to have fluff pets. You can always tell the characters who were controlled by women as they had their kitty, chicken, frog, etc... pet running around behind them.

    - Large selection of clothing. This is key. Women like to play dress up and that dressing room feature in WoW was a stroke of genius. Not a very functional feature game wise, but as a marketing ploy to attract women its pure gold!

    - Social outlets, role-playing areas. One of the many reasons why Alliance had more girls and players than horde, there were so many cool places you could cybe... er, I mean... role-play.

    - Cutsie cartoon graphics. This doesn't really apply to FE, as they will have kick arse realistic graphics, but the non-threatening nature of the cartoony look of WoW I feel had a lot to do with attracting women to the game.

    - Non-combat activities. Drinking, dancing, cooking, eating... all things women love to do in real life, so why not move this into the game. Wow has done it, so I feel that FE should have something along these lines.

In short, get women in this game and the men will sure follow. Hey, it's a ploy that works in night-clubs all over the world, i.e. "Ladies Night", so why not use that here?
