Mark - what makes people do not want to come back to games after awhile - forced respec

morfidonmorfidon Member Posts: 245

I've noticed games like Warhammer and DAOC has something what makes me VERY ANGRY.

When i came back after 1-6 months all my chars got forced respec. I had to set all my icons again. I have over 20 lvl 50 chars in daoc it's just crazy. Even in WAR where I have a few characters it's annoying. Imagine a person coming back to game after 1-2 years time and he has to rethink everything again. Come on. I know changes sometimes are major but they never should respec everybody by force.

NEVER EVER force anybody to respec. Let them do it on their own. There should be system that allows people to respec after some major changes but not force them.

It's so annoying to come back to WAR and DAOC.

Sometimes you are forced to do it because one of your abilities from your older spec has just been removed from the game.

It doesn't mean you need to be forced respecced. There could be just empty skill icon after the patch in place of that skill on bar. That's all. Let people decide themselves if they want to respec or not.

    Less QQ more pewpew

That's why you always save your current spec/setup somewhere.  Makes respeccing a breeze.

Really? That's it? If I go back to a game after 6 months, I usually have to spend time looking over the skills again anyway, regardless if they were reset or not.

valid point!  Most abilities have been nerfed, buffed, reworked completely a few times by then,,,

I found it a little annoying too, but once I respecced/looked through all my abilities, it greatly helped me remember how to play the class to figure all that out LOL.

Even if you call it 'force respec,' I see it as a way to make people learn their class completely. What would you think about a warrior who played a dps role for years and didn't know anything about tanking?

Don't forget World of Warcraft and EverQuest II... After each and every expansion you're forced to respec as well. Okay, WoW has an expansion every 1 1/2 - 2 years, but EQ2 has one every 6-9months...

For me it's a gamebreaker to respec every once in a while. But on the other hand, it's mostly needed for newly added mechanics, skills and the alike. Biggest problem after a respec is that you have to 'learn to play' your character all over again, and sometimes the new spec-system just sucks...

    Don't cancel CU. Problem solved!

Yeah I agree it's aggravating being forced to respec in DAOC. I'm sure there are good technical reasons for it like when they add new skills at lower specs the skills don't get added to existing characters' list of skills until after a respec. Better to annoy people by forcing them to respec than have them filling out angry support tickets asking where their new skill is after a patch.

I never minded the forced respec part.  What bugged me was having to recreate my hotbars.

There wasn't forced respecs at the beginning of daoc. When some major change in patch happend everyone (or specific class) achieved free respec they could use by using command if they wanted. Everyone were happy ppl who still thought their spec is still good and people who thought their spec isn't good anymore.

    That's nothing hard to program.

I haven't played daoc for like 2 years and i remember all my bars on my most played characters. But If I came back I'd need to go with all of my chars to trainers and then set icons. It's time consuming. It makes me angry.

I know what you mean. Just reactivated DaoC and it's a bloody nightmare with 30+ lvl50s on 3 different realms.

When skills get a signigicant chance on a patch, then sometimes there has to be a respec. I doubt, that only reason  for the forced respec is, to make you angry.

It doesn't have to be respec. Sometimes even if something get nerfed somebody want to stay the way he was specced.

Everytime there was a major change in DAOC we got a free respec. If you wanted one just for the heck of it, you got respec stones. I like it the way it was in DAOC.

At the beginning it was like this. You got free respec you could use or not - and it was very good.

I don't know what and why it happened but they stopped giving people choice.

I quit after they made New Frontiers. That sucks if EA did that :(

I don't remember when it was added, but there is a new awesome training window where you don't have to wait 5 sec to train each level of a spec :D

That leaves only the time to go to your trainer and to do your macro again... there i agree it's not the most interesting thing to do, but you can do it on a few char and play the others only if you really want.

So what your saying is if you quit a game for 1-2 years it shuold be the exact same as when you left?  Umm....sure.
