Newbie Question

I'm completly new at MMORP games, I dont even have one yet :) , well question is what game would be good for me to start with?  I'm looking for something like Diablo (where you know its just 1 player) not like Warcraft (where you command armies and stuff).  Also I was thinking of starting of with like a solo character not like where you need to join groups and stuff.  And well thats all I know of MMORPG games any adivise that you guys could give me will be greatly appreciated.   Oh yeah 1 more thing that I almost forgot(actually I did forget and was reminded by another post) I'm on dial up so I'm guessing I'll need 1 thats not so graphic intense or something like that.  1 more thing I seen screenshots of some and I like those that you are up close to the characters not like Diablo II where you view the characters from like up high in the sky.  Again thanx for any info/help

    Ultima Online (i played it for 4 years.. i love it)

    Anarchy Online (awesome game, tons of items, but lvling gets old)

    The best MMORPG I've played so far would have to be Everquest, because of the endless content.  I don't know if Everquest is what you're looking for however, since it isn't a great game to start off with and it's pretty hard to solo.  DAoC, on the other hand, isn't that complicated and you'll be able to solo no problem.  But if you don't mind waiting a little while, you're probably better off getting Horizons, WoW, EQII or Lineage II.  (not sure which of those games you can play on a 56k)

    mu is alright.. a bit laggy for my taste, and i usually cant stand games where everyone looks the same, but ill give it a try, and i had smash and grab games to where you kill something and it drops to the ground and newbs come and steal it.. but ill give it a good try

    Thanx for the info guys, Endless ages seems to be good(from what I've seen of the screenshots)  and muonline not sure about but I'll download it and give it a try seem I think its free :).  Anarchy online also seems good from the screenshots :) .  Guess I'll choose between Anarchy Online and Endless Ages.  Again thanx for the help.  I'll let you guys know what I get later.

    You say that you're looking for a MMOG like Diablo. Do you mean fantasy with lots of action, that's primed for solo play? Or are you into cross-pollination i.e. sci-fi, cyberpunk etc?

    If the latter, then do check out AO [Anarchy Online] and Neocron. Both games are sci-fi, dark and gritty in feel with an element of PvP I believe.

    AO has improved leaps and bounds from it's baptism of fire, whilst Neocron looks an interesting game. Both seem more suitable (from the reviews and comments that I have read - I have NOT played either MMOG) judging by your requirements.

    I would consider UO very, very carefully after much thought. UO is no longer supported and is definitely played by the hardcore fan. Reputed to be one of the best if not the best, by a very devoted following due to its complete freedom, it is a very different beast now so read up on UO and make sure that you are aware of all the issues. This advice applies to all games but more especially the mature games i.e. UO, EQ, DAoC etc.

    I would say try ShadowBane (full throttle PvP) but I'm not that sadistic :P SB is not well received on this site.

    Note: it is an interesting time for MMOG's because the mature ones are either full of high level characters (EQ) and/or not being supported and have changed dramatically (UO). The next gen MMOG's are slowly due for release but none of them with the exception of Face of Mankind and/or Dragon Empires and maybe UltimaX offers anything like Diablo play with PvP.

    Let us know what game that you eventually plump for and how you get on. I'd be interested to hear about AO but I could never play it as I view MMOG's as long term investments and prefer games with real depth. Otherwise I'd just stick to getting my ass kicked on UT :P

    hey lenin btw endles ages is releasing a booster pack near the middle/end of the month with all new gfx and character/weapon/armor models

    RiotGirl, I guess when I was thinking about it I didnt really think it through :) When I said a game like diablo I meant I guess RPG not Strategy like Warcraft or Command and Conquer type :)  Sorry for the mix up.  Oh and prolly tomorrow I'll by both Endless Ages and Anarchy online and try them out both for a month and see which one I like more and stick to one.  I'll let you guys know what I do

    Personally I would wait for a few months until the newer generation MMORPGs come out.  I played Anarchy Online for a month, and it was just "ok."  I really despised it at first, but grew to like it after my boyfriend and I started playing together.  But it still was a bad game for soloing, and isn't balanced at all.  Anyway, long story short, I played in a beta for an upcoming MMORPG and I immediately canceled my subscription to AO... :p

    For content - everquest

    For PvP- dark ages of camelot

    For role playing- star wars galaxies/rubies of eventide

    For diablo like game- asheron's call 2

    Included the asheron's call 2   because you mentioned diablo 2 and it does feel a bit like diablo 2 in many ways.

    AC2 has a free trial period.Not the most exciting game but i found it gave me a feeling of playing diablo 2 in a larger scale for a bit.Game got tiresome fast though.

    Well guys, Thanx for all the info. I went to compusa today to buy both Endless Ages and Anarchy Online but they were out of AO so I got Endless Ages and since DAoC Gold Ed.(Both DAoC And Shrouded Isles) was only $20 and also had a 1 month free trial I bought that one as well.  I'll try out Endless Ages first, as soon the updates finish.

    yeah EA is good fun i played it through to commercial. Got my wave snipe about a week before it went pay. image hehe still owe someone 250k for non drop human armour i had on my HM

    endless ages has  a free free trial download

    Personally i think it is horrible game compared to the other sci fi like anarchy online or Star wars galaxies.

    Both of this games are not only better looking,larger community to play with but to be are tons more fun to play .

    Like i said i don't know why you are buying this games before using the free trials.Go to www.anarchy-online.com and download the free trial then decide if you want to buy it!

    Sadly star wars galaxies has no free download .

    Then try asheron's call 2 and rubies of eventide free trial  download

    Hercules, if there are larger communities to play with wouldn't it be safe to say that most people are at a much higher level then nubies?  And if thats the case wouldnt nubies get eliminates quicker?  Thats how it always happens to me, like when I used to play counter strike I was always the first to die.  :)oh and its hard for me to download the free trials cause I dont have DSL or cable, I'm stuck on dial up.

    I also havent checked out jedi knights cause truth is I didnt know about it.  Is it a good game for soloing? Just looked at price and it seems expensive.  :)
