Becuase I loved playing a Pac healer in Mid. CC was sooo much fun, I healed a little but was mostly CC spec.

My runner up would be stealth. Loved my Nightshade.

Didn't vote, since I enjoy them all depending on my mood. If I where forced to choose, I generally gravitate toward roguish types, preferably dual weilding blades.
It's always been a hard choice for me, since there are things I love about in every class. PAC healers were amazing in DAoC and by far the best type of healer in the game. I do like stealthers, since it adds a whole new element to the game. WAR made tanks amazing, since you could actually make tank walls and block people from getting to your squishy players. Casters are always fun for dishing out damage from afar -- I loved my Warlock in DAoC! I am also a sucker for pet classes and Theurgists were by far my favorite. I could go on for hours on all the classes I love!
Stealther here, more precisely for scouting and helping whole realm in giving good reports, follow ennemies unnoticed, then intervene when back up arrives.
Bowbow (kob hunter) Infecto (kob cave shammy) and Thurka (troll warrior) on Merlin/Midgard DAoC Thurka on WAR
I should add that I probably enjoy crafters so much because I typically work 60-80 hour weeks, but I have lots of downtime moments within the work week that allow me to tinker with crafting even when I'm not able to give the game 1-2 hours of consistent playtime. RvR combat typically involves lengthier playtimes, whether it's running to attack or defend somewhere, and then committing to the battle.
I chose healer as I prefer to help rather than to actually be relied upon for killing. I did love my Champions and Mentalist (Mentalism was the best spec in the game, pre-buff) though. Nightshade and old-school Ranger were fun. I loved every DAoC class from all three realms.
WAR did make tanks awesome to play, but I hated the healers in that game with a passion, so I didn't stick with it, even though the tanks were so damn fun. WoW Druids were fun to play, all specs, but I absolutely loved healing on mine. I, for one, would be happy to see a similar mobile/HoT healer class in CU.
Just hope they don't have all WAR-type healers.

Originally posted by Plastic-Metal Ouch.. difficult choice. I'll take one of each, please. I usually play a caster or healer, but I'm itching for a tank class that's done right in RvR.
The only thing I'm worried about with tanks and melee classes is the stand-stills that could potentially happen. Reason I rolled a Mentalist in DAoC was because I hated sitting still on my Champion while the zergs faced off for hours and no side could make an honest push. Mentalist gave me the perfect solo healer/support class.

Corsair from FFXI was a lot of fun. Buffer/Debuffer and a bit of a DPS.
"In the immediate future, we have this one, and then weve got another one that is actually going to be so were going to have, what we want to do, is in January, what were targeting to do, this may or may not happen, so you cant hold me to it. But what were targeting to do, is have a fun anniversary to the Ilum shenanigans that happened. An alien race might invade, and they might crash into Ilum and there might be some new activities that happen on the planet." ~Gabe Amatangelo
I most like ranged damage dealers especially casters but archers too.
I also enjoy healers but only when I have a regular group of people to play with. Nothing is more annoying than trying to play a healer in pugs and getting yelled at when some dumb tank in your group runs to the back of enemy lines way out of range and dies or a stealther in your group decides to go solo away from the group and dies.
If CU has a class like DAOC's skald, I'd be really tempted to play that a fair amount too.
I choes crafter. I am sure I will have an alt that is either caster or tank, but I love the idea that the crafting that I enjoy so much in games will actually be necessary and not just a time sink.

My favorite character type is a Hybrid mage/melee fighter, sadly this is also one of the most underused hybrids in mmo's/rpgs in general, minus a few games.
Only games that did it ok were Dragon Age (Arcane Knight), Kingdoms of Amalur, and a few others. I'm talking about the dps kind of focused hybrid, not your generic "Paladin" style buffer/healer tank.
So I usually end up going for the melee/light tank style of fighter instead.
I'm hoping perhaps there'll be something possible for this kind of playstyle in CU.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy
I had a Shield Paladin in DAOC that was just boss, I remember soloing some crazy stuff down in Darkness Falls. I understand this really wasn't the TANK class but it was very fun to play.
As more games released I gravitated to the more Heavy Armor, Lock down, Stun and debuff of Tanks. They are usually lower on the populaton scale, are ALWAYS needed and if you are a consistent player will usually quickly find friends and groups of people to play with.
In Warhammer I played a Black Guard and Chosen which were both VERY fun. I enjoy being in the thick of battle, or charging to the back line and locking down a healer while my caster teams bombs the crap out of them. Or staying in the back lines of your own group and CC'ing the opposing MDPS as they go for your squishies.
So much fun.
Tank (Warrior/Arms/Hero) or Tank hybrid with support like a Paladin or Champion or Thane
If there are Tank hybrids I do usually gravitate to them, and Midgard is my favorite realm so it will be some form of Warrior or Thane unless Paladins are back and bossy as can be.
I like that you included "light tank" in there. Honestly, my absolute favorite types of characters are "sword & board" but I don't always care for having all of the responsibility in a group. One thing I enjoy about what I've heard regarding TESO is that you can use whatever the hell weapons you like regardless of class. I think having a shield in any battle setting just makes sense.

I admit it's not perfect, since I am an altoholic, but normally when I play a new MMO, there is certain class types that I gravitate to.

EH! Poll is fine! Just put an altoholic option in there next time for the people who are suually not sure and will roll a bunch or who play so much they can roll all the classes to max and play them effectively. Covers a large base of people but thats why we can post as well. Give a little color to a black and white answer.
Interesting results for MJ to consider... or maybe he should just completely ignore the poll. Right now, more people are signing up for Stealthers than for any other individual option.
I chose stealther, but I that was assuming there would be an Archer/Scout type stealther class. If not, I will probably play a ranged DPS/non-caster.

I kind of realized after I posted it again... It can also fit under "Caster" or "Hybrid" class... sorta... hmm...

As an altaholic there are SO many to pick from. However if I had a gun to my head, my top 3 in no particular order....
Shaman (WAR). Most fun I've ever had on a healer.
2h Sword Hunter (DAoC). At Thid level this class/spec surprised so many people how awesome it could be
Thane (DAoC). Just because, what else do you need to say. THANE POWER!
