This game is just your typical grind fest.

After a 3 day beta trial I feel that all this game boils down to is just a non stop third person shoter that is a non stop grind fest. Well anyways that is my take on Defiance it seems kill x number of muntants or spiders or whatever they were to complete a lvl I did however find a fun fact that if you are on a mission quest and other people are in the zone also it goes a lot faster for you get credit for their help wether or not you are party with them and vise versa. It was funny I put it to the test did nothing and got a mission complete due to other people doing all the work.

I think the show is going to be way better then the game. I did however like the story line. That was basicly the only thing that keep me going in the game. Im not 100 percent sure if I will buy the game right off the bat may wait for a bit.

Oh and PvP - not sure why but I just found it so therapeutic after a 10 hour crazy workday.

Heck sometimes I'd just be on my max speed vehicle for fun doing crazy jumps.

The game delivers on fun for me, and thats ultimately what matters to me.

To be honest I did not play as much as you did it seems and maybe if I did play as much as you did perhaps I would feel difrently about the game.

I personally think it's pretty good. Not as good as Borderlands, but not too far off.

I found the title refreshing, the graphics solid, and the grind less boring due to it being 3rd person fps.

I'm not expecting a lot of strategy or depth, it's a shooter disguised as an MMO, but I think it will be well worth the B2P price of $20 when it comes down later this year (or approx. $20, Steam Summer sales are awesome).

For what its worth I thought it was rather good.  I concentrated ont he story line of quests which i though was outstanding.  Did some arkfalls and other events that I encountered on my way.

I am not saying it's perfect, just that it never felt like a grind to me at all, but then again people can make everythign into a grind if they want.

I doubt the price will drop until at least 2-3 months after the tv series finishes. All games do drop in price over time anyways and defiance will be no different from others on the market.

I didn't enjoy the quests or storyline much it seemed pretty generic and didn't really draw me into the game. The PvE stuff was fun once I realised it was quicker and easier to kill things with my car instead of a gun.  PvP was ok, but not as fun as other MMO PvP games because of the instant killing thing.

it is mid average with everything still its enjoyable like someone said some other post, can just log in kill few mutants and logout.

it is grind but instead of swords you shoot stuff and its change itself, i know there is few other titles outhere at the moment that offers the same but i think the whole idea of this was to side tv show .

you play game and want to see the show good for company , you watch the show and want to be inthe world no worries you can play and again good for company.

I fonud it pretty average myself as well.. its really nothing special and i dont think I would want to spend my cash on it..

I am sure some people will enjoy tho..

Story line seemed pretty good, I guess it will tie into the TV series as well, graphics are decent as well.. the rest is just your average MMO from the last few years..

A Third Person First Person Shooter?

    Interesting.

People love to throw the word 'grind fest ' a lot around here even though Defiance is nothing like that.

Didn't find it a grindfest at all, because I wasn't aware I was grinding for anything.  Had more ego skills unlocked then I could equip and test.  Didn't notice much difference in the performance of the weapons of the same type (kept the same LMG throughout).  I suppose you could grind for currency (scrip etc).  But just killing bad guys in the normal course of events dropped enough of that.  So all in all I fail to see what you are grinding for?

I played the Beta this weekend and i have to say i got the feeling i was playing a MMO-Borderlands with more options.

The UI is terrible but the game is really really funny and this morning i pre-ordered the collectors edition because its worth it!

The missions are not to easy but not impossible, driving around with the cars is much fun and the use of the 4 "Skills" is as simple as cool.

    For me, a ++ game

The game is a shooter. If you call "shooting things" a "grind fest" ok, that's you. Otherwise what you grind? Weapons? There is not the usual MMORPG gear progression, weapons change in some aspects (less recoil, magazine larger, more aim, ...) and have minor bonuses, it's not like a generic MMORPG where the wepon you loot at level 80 is 100000000000000 times better than the starting weapon. You grind exp to get all the perks? You can equip 9 at a time, so it's not so game-breaking having all the perks unlocked. The game is a fast and dynamic shooter in a massive world, you play to shoot things while following a storyline linked with the TV show, or login and queue for competitive/shadow war to kill other players. But you have nothing to grind.

Thank you for honesty, Isturi, can rarely see somebody agreeing that he *might* be wrong on these forums :)

Just wanted to point something out about grinding in the game in genral: there is absolutely no reason to grind. There is close to no gear progression and there's no reason to grind for anything in particular, other than looks. Quite the opposite, it seems like Trion did everything to make us do whatever we want in the game, whenever we want it, without binding us to level or gear requirements.

For instance, we could easily do random instanced content (like a dungeon) with a group of friends with varying levels of EGO, without feeling weak or op. Another example: I was just driving around the map as a very low level and went as far as I could and even managed to do some very complicated events by myself, because neither level nor gear were limiting me. Only your skills as a player mean something, grinding won't get you anywhere, really.

    FYI :)
