You do realize, although you are backing a company to develop a product, it costs money to build servers, host said product, and mantain it while still developing the said product and meeting milestones?
Thx for the link, I only read the massively article and it seems to have different information than the mmorpg article.
My viewpoint has changed and I can see how the high value of early access is justified.
I still stand by my point however, Ipersonally do no not agree with the high value placed on early alpha/beta access. It seems exploitative to me. As gamers, we have proven to have the same spending habits as a drug addict. A new game on the horizon is akin to a new high we get to experience and you can recieve that new "high" earlier, but it costs ~ $200 or more.
Now that I said this, I would like to reiterate that I wish the game success. If the traffic and forum activity on this site is an indicator, the kickstarter will be a wild success.

The concept of crowd-funding has been lost on you mate.
From what i read so far CU's KS has been very thought long and hard about to go where no other KS has gone.
I think it also reflects many other factors :
- How MJ is fond of his project and how he really wants it to work.
- It also reflects how he thinks of as much thing as he can before doing something.
- That nothing is done without a reason, and they all have specific objectives at the end.
All that makes me feel even more confident on how CU is going to be when it launches !
negative point : i only wished i'd have more money to put in KS when it launches lol
Edit : Where you talk about your time with EA/Mythic for the WAR CE, it was awesome, i had pre ordered it, and i still have everything in that box, receiving it that day was like Christmas lol

Concerning the KS tiers, specially the upcoming ones, can you share a bit more information about how it's going to work? As per example, if I spend 250$ now and another 250$ later on, will I be "upgraded" to the 500$ tier ?
Also for the guild rewards, will there be a way to collect the money via KS or on your side for the guilds? Some people may be reluctant to send thier money to a particular.

Another ridiculous statement without a proposed solution to a made up problem. It sounds to me like you just dont think spending money to get into beta is worth it. That's fine. Who's forcing you?
How would you allot alpha/beta slots? And what is your reasoning behind your suggestion? Remember that they are limited in numbers.
You get the game for the normal pledge of roughly 20$, anything else is just cosmetic and won't affect gameplay.

Sorry? What of the kickstarter pinciple do you missunderstood? People invest money to see a vision becomes reality. The one who has that vision and who will make it reality rewards the people who had faith in him with different kind of rewards.
These rewards do not influence the gameplay. Everybody has the same chances when the game starts. Ok, beside the know-how advantage the beta-testers gain trough playing before official start. This advantage relativise, since in CU you have to play together to achieve something, so everybody has an interest to teach the newbies how to succeed.
Calm down, lean back and enjoy the show. You can participate in the finished game just fine.

Good catch. I didn't pay much attention to the physical list. A digital tier with beta 1 would be nice, but I'm liking $110 for rewards I'd get something out of vs cost. Eitherway I should be able to survive until Beta 2... :P

That's a really important point to keep in mind. If this was a big-budget, 5+ year development cycle (SWToR, TESO, etc.), MMO the alpha/beta access would be more valuable for those people who would look at it as a game to play during that time. Since our development cycle on this game is so much shorter, the lag between beta 1 -> beta 2, etc. is going to be much shorter. That's also one of the reasons I made beta access a perk of the tiers versus the main reason for the tier except for alpha access.

Yeah, the $110 Tier (Digital) & $120 Tier (Physical) are looking to be my current attainable ones while still being able to take care of bills. We just need a "replicant Tier" that lets me into Alpha so I can start breaking and shaping things quicker.

Life is not fair. It never has been. It never will be. As with everything in life, the higher the risk, the higher the potential for greater reward. People that are willing to take more risk, invest more (both money and time), should be rewarded with more for their efforts.
Why anyone would be offended by that simple concept boggles my mind.
I sure as hell wouldn't want some slacker doing half of the work and contributing half of the money that I've contributed to a project to be rewarded equally with me. I would expect more because I produced more. If every Tom, Dick, and Harry were going to be rewarded "equally" even though they did only a quarter or half of the work that I did, I would have zero incentive to work hard or invest at all.
Pledge Tier $500 – Comes with everything in the $250 tier and also includes 2 additional digital copies of the game (these do not include the renewable subscription), the art book, special thanks in-game, extra character slots (# TBD), in-game founder’s statue for display outside your home, exclusive cosmetic housing items, statue in Founder’s Row, Alpha testing access, Mithril forum badge and 150 FPs.
I think I already know the answer, but wanted to actually know from MJ. Do all 3 copies get ALPHA access or is it just the main one? If its just the main one are the other 2 strictly there for launch?
Concerning the KS tiers, specially the upcoming ones, can you share a bit more information about how it's going to work? As per example, if I spend 250$ now and another 250$ later on, will I be "upgraded" to the 500$ tier ?
Curious how this works, as well. Is KS a one-time pledge or can you continually add and move up tiers until the KS closes?
I would love to drop $250, not for Alpha, but the 3 year subscription. Maybe this request would break what you are trying to do with KS but I would love to see a tier with: Two copies, early-mid beta access and the $1 per 3 years sub. I guess that is essentially the $250 tier.
What is the discounted sub going to look like? I may be interested in that if I knew what sort of discount we are talking about.

I would consider to drop the 2 additional digital copies here and increase the founder points. If someone wants to get more digital copies, he could buy those via the additional points but that way you won´t be handing out rewards to - I guess - a lot of people only donating for themselves and now getting extra copies they don´t need at all and instead would prefer something more "one account related rewards".
Since it wasn't included in the reveal, I guess its not a huge surprise, but I would have expected at least one or two posts about "the opportunity for backers to contribute voice-over work to the game.' That's pretty epic!
I think people are forgetting something about MMORPGs.
Your looking at $240 to buy the game and play for a year including the subs. I'm pretty dedicated to my MMOs so that really makes the tiers less intimidating to me.
The other thing they are forgetting is that Beta is TESTING. And when it's over it all goes away like it never happened. So your buying a free preview but it will have 0 impact on launch other than, you might be sick of CU by launch if your one of the MMO youngsters that I keep seeing here today.

I would love to know as well. If the discount is good enough, I might consider dropping to the $110 beta 2 level instead of a lifetime sub or alpha access.
Personally, I hope for some physical, non-physical combined tiers. I am looking forward to an alpha access tier with cloth map and posters and decent ingame founder gifts for under 500$. I would like to have some similar tiers like the 500$ tier without the one or two extra copy of the game. If I need extra copies for friends, i would buy as much low cost tiers with a game copy (25$) as I need.
I'd really like a chance to get a CU poster even if I have to buy it separately. I still have my DAOC poster that Terese Nielsen created for Mythic.
I wonder Mark, do you intend to do an "add ons" style for the kickstarter?
Similar to how some others have did (Star Citizen, etc) where people can pledge, and then "add on" another item (IE shirt, poster, digital goods, etc)?
This allows people that say, might want to pledge for a lower tier, but REALLY want that "one" specific item to get it for a little extra money.
I'd love to be able to add-on a poster or something like that but from the tiers I probably will pledge at the 110$ one.
Also I REALLY hope that the "cosmetic" armoru/weapons mentioned are not only "starter" items. I think it'd be better if they were treated as skins, wher eyou can take that special skin and apply it to other ewapons (of the same type of coures) so that people who get them can use that "look" as long as they wish, and not only for a few levels or so until they have to get new items and thus lose that aspect of their pledge.
Do the Physical Editions include everything digital from the Digital Editions? In-game housing items, etc? I know it sounds silly and II assumed as much due to the cost, but seeing things like the Founder's Statue repeated made me wonder.
Also, how limited will the BSC ($1250) editions and other Physicals be? I don't want to wake up one morning and find they've all gone when I was asleep due to my timezone.
Thanks.
