Group based game mechanics things you want to see

zekuelzekuel Member UncommonPosts: 39
I would like to see an ingame voice chat. Maybe Mark could work with Ventrillo or some other server based social server provider to incorporate an ingame chat system. Instead of having 1 person you know that pays for a server just add lets say $1 to the monthly sub fee that would go to this in game chat provider. Also I thought it would be cool to add options such as a floating group. You could have a normal locked group(set members of group) or you could open up the group to people that are around you. With an option like this you can be solo and enter in and out of groups and get group buffs or someone can see your health is low and heal you. This would also help for players to group more with others and get locked groups or guild invites.

With so many other VoIP services out there, even free small call ones for groups such as skype and google chat, I dont see how the game would benefit from an ingame service. Would take away from the severs, manpower, and most likely be poorly implemented (as it has been by most hames)

Past: WoW, WAR, SWTOR, and too many others
    Future: Camelot Unchained

I agree with Zarthux, there is plenty of options nowadays and another option is Mumble which is 100% free http://mumble.sourceforge.net/. As far as UI enhancements, I am not sure we are going to see a lot of these features, similar to Squared, since it sounds like (no sure of), but the UI will be minimalistic.

Forums like there are in Lord of Ultima. Having those might make me want to visit my guilds forums more often.

I would like to see group bonuses make a return. I am also a fan of buffs affecting the caster and his group, or a range around the caster. I can say that as a healer I really miss the date of not needing LOS to heal my group, although I suspect that that feature will never be seen again. Any old-school DAoC healer will know what I'm talking about though... hiding in a tower or under a bridge, soaking up RP while the DPS slaughtered the unsuspecting. Hehe. Good times.

While ingame voice chat has the bonus of being readily available to all, without the need to download and registering or getting a server  IP and password, and in general figuring out what service to use.

And not having to share your personal info just to be in a PUG.

It has one major flaw... When the game crashes, and they often do, you are unable to tell the group that you will be right back or that the game is lagging like crazy and they should stop pulling, because you wont be able to heal.

Also people may like the options available in standalone services better. So ingame VoIP will never completly replace standalones.

So, depending on cost, it should be left out at launch. It might be a neat thing to have, but it is not necessary.

And you would still have people using standalones anyway.

But the resources used to make this could go to something more important.  Basically it's fixing a problem where we have solutions available.  It's like reinventing the wheel.  So you advocate reinventing the wheel?

I'd leave voice chat issues to the players, for a few reason, main one is that it requires more workload, and i'd prefer that CSE focus on the game itself, plus i assume (i'm not a tech guy but still) that it would cause more "work" for the servers, thus slowing the game a bit.

I don't see it worth the development time and $ to build in VOIP when it is done so well already by other software. If there was any way to interface the game with Ventrilo etc. so that you could do /ventrilo <ip> <port> <password> in game rather than writing that info down and ALT-TAB to enter it in Vent, that would be nice.

Looks like mumble is bsd licensed, could easily embed the client for /mumble and let players host their own.

This alienates guilds with existing infrastructure but~
