I'm looking for a new MMO that doesn't require a large amount of time, that has a fairly steep learning curve (a.k.a. there is some complexity, unlike say....W.O.W.) and a solid community. I have come from EQ2 and FFXI and WoW and EVE too, so I've got a decent amount of experience under my belt. I do not want to start playing an old game now either, so a new game would be preferred, or an upcoming release~
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...

Hmmm, I'm not trying to flame or anything, but I would think an MMO with a steep learning curve and complexity would require a good amount of time to do well in. However, I am definitely open to suggestions on this as well! I too got bored with WoW but don't have the time I used to put into EQ1.
Former WOW player here too. Played WOW for a long time and am utterly sick of grinding, the community, and what they call customer support. Im basicaly looking for the same thing as the op, good complex game with a focus on a good comunity.
(complex meaning you have to have some brains to play and become skilled, i.e. none cooky cutter tactics matter in both pve and pvp (if pvp exists))
try survival project

at first it takes about 10 minutes of playing to get to the next channel but
when you get to the third channel its hard to level you can do community
mode which is just chatting or quest duel team battle and more
Well...if you've tried all those I'd say just wait for the new ones that are coming down the pipeline. There are a lot that will be in BETA soon so you'll have a chance to get in on the "ground floor"
If you REALLY have to have something to tide you over until they come out, then I'd suggest something short like Guild Wars (though it may not exactly be a MMORPG, it's certainly fun for a little while, and is an RPG and multiplayer...just not very massive). You could also try City of Heroes/Villains which are fun, but (for me at least) turned into a grind rather quickly.
Either way...have fun!!
EDIT: I notice you also said steep learning curve (GW doesn't really have that)...but you could always try a SRPG console game from someone like Nippon Ichi...hehe...though it's not MMO it's certainly RPG and has a nice steep curve! (Oh no...I appear to have become an MMO heathen)
Aren't we all.
try DAOC, its not too old, its well established, its not as grindful as EQ, it has nice RvR (realm vs realm PVP), has fun gameplay and u can solo some classes (not sure if u can solo all teh way though).
If u dont like WoW and consider that to have grind, then im guessing u wont like any game currently on the market. I believe WoW has least grind of all MMOs currently on the market.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
