I'd like to point out again that the game is completely free to play from the get-go. The company will release dlcs from time to time to expand the world, but you won't have to buy them if you don't want to. You will always be able to play what you've payed for at the release. If you like one dlc and you don't like other, you can buy the one you like and nothing else.
I've already bought it on Steam. I'm going to enjoy myself as hell. I recommend this amazing game to everyone that like shooters, mmos in general, and to the lovers of driving like in the game Motorstorm.
Incorrect. Regardless of someones choice to purchase dlcs or not all dlc will be available to play for anyone who buys the game they just won't have access to the new items, gear, vehicles etc.
IMO it's a good game with potential upside... keyword being "Potential." Realistically this game is not for everyone and statistically speaking what game ever is? That said, i'll be playing it from day one.
I had posted this in the general forums but some mod thought it belonged in the Defiance forums. I wanted to know what the general MMO population thought of it not just Defiance fans. Oh well.
Originally posted by lavosslayer Been playing since the first Beta and I still haven't found a reason to purchase it. Doesn't seem like there is much depth beyond the typical multiplayer shooter with skill trees. The world map is huge but it also makes the world seem empty at times. Story is ok, lots of things are built around small group gameplay. If you solo, you might find a few missions that end up being too much to handle. Just seems too mediocre for $60...better games coming out next month that I'd rather spend money on...maybe when steam has its summer sale it might become a bit more tempting...

Just because something is free, doesn't automatically make it worth downloading. Passing on this.
Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what
it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience
because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in
the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you
playing an MMORPG?"
Enjoyed the beta a lot. Tons of weapons, plenty of loot, not a horrible story (though it's based on the tv show I'm assuming and those tend to be better in terms of engaging someone), like the fact that there are mini cutscenes and voice acting for almost everything even if it may not be the greatest in the world (it's certainly not bad) so it makes the pacing pretty nice with a few small breaks between action.
Unfortunately though I'm not willing to spend 60 dollars on a PC game much less a digital download, but even if it was the typical 50 dollars I still can't justify spending that much money on it at this point in time so I voted that I wont be playing it, although I want to. I will definitely be watching the tv show though.
It's not really a bad game, riding on a quad bike through the post apocalyptic wasteland and blowing mutant brains out with a large variety of weapons is fun. For a while.
Unfortunately the gameplay is rather shallow and as a stand alone MMO the game in its current state doesn't really cut it in today's way oversaturated market. We'll see how the tie in with the show actually works. A couple months in at reduced price I just might buy it afterall, not now though.
I think a lot of people will regret not having bought the game at the beginning when you get goodies you won't be able to get later and get in the world before the series comes out and makes everybody want to play it.
The general consensus doesn't seem to be that great on this or other sites, but I'm not sure what that has to do with your decision. I just don't want to pay 60 bucks for something that looks so shallow and may not last me a month. I made that mistake with Skyrim (not saying Skryim is shallow, just to be clear, just that it didn't last long).
[mod edit] A shooter with very light mmo features, very little progression, small world. Nothing to keep players busy past the first week.
Rushed to meet the release deadline of the show.
This is my opinion. As it is not all sunshine and fairies, i expect that a mod will delete my post and warn me for some stupid reason or another, after all, they don't want to upset the guys who pay their advert bills.

To get a general opinion of what mmo gamers think of a game, take what most of mmorpg.com forum posters think, reverse it and there you have it. The rule is, the more hated and trolled the game is on these forums, the more popular it is/will be.

Well that's a nice theory and all, but not very scientific. First off, this would mean that SWTOR would have beaten WoW the first day it released... and if the opposite were true, it would have meant that GW2 would have sold a few dozen copies. I wanted to see what other forums thought of the game, and I found a bunch of threads where the reaction to Defiance were just as mixed. So, no.

By that logic GW2 and SWTOR should have been mega successes.
For it's price it was too shallow to capture me. I played for about 2 hours before I had the "been there done that" vibe from Tabula Rasa, Rift, Fallout and pretty much every 3rd person shooter in existance. It's not deep enough for me but if it lowers its price in the future to 20-30 I may pick it up. The show does look interesting though.

GW2 wasn't a mega success? I don't know I stopped playing after two weeks. Not a joke, I literaly don't know how successful it was, I stopped caring.

It is/was a success, but a mega success? Oh I know there are some scientists around here who could tell you exactly what that means (ie: what they want it to mean). Probably along the lines of "It didn't sell as many copies as WoW did" or something.

Never really been much of a fan of 3rd Person shooters tbh, maybe if it also supported FPS gameplay, but the UI for the PC has been pretty much slated in all the reviews, i think the game may have some kind of success on console, but the console players are less likely to go in for microtransactions than maybe the PC players are, given all that, i think on the PC the game is going to be an epic fail, how successful it is on console, is another matter, truth to be told, it may well bomb hard on console too, there isnt really anything about the game that stands out from other 3rd person shooters, of which there are many on console, and those are the games that its going to be competing with. They are probably going to end up relying on the TV program to generate sales
The truth is that nobody knows how well Defiance will do. There are just too many variables.
Will the tie-in with the TV series work ? How will it work ? Will it create a loyal and (most importantly) a large enough audience to sustain it ? Will the cross-link with the show be enough to give the game a "unique" quality and play experience ?
The concept of co-developing 2 entertainment products in two very different media is completely new and unknown. I salute both Trion and SyFy for taking such a considerable risk. Yes, both products are supposed to be able to work independantly of each other, but ultimately they are supposed to complement each other.
This could well be the start of a new trend of "convergence" in entertainment. The idea is not new, it's just never been tried on this scale. It's early days yet, but the eventual outcome of this trend will be game/TV series combo's that are completely dependant on each other. But you'll need REALLY big balls to be the company that tries that one first
Sure I'll play it. Haters can say whatever lies they want, the game is fun, good, with a solid base to last, the tie in with the tv show will be interestign to see, Trion is a great company known to do great products (look at Rift, one if not the only MMORPG released without being a "beta release").

Unfortunately, we've already played Borderlands.
Doesn't sound like the longterm solution.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
I hope my interest will be kept longer than it was with GW2 (I take GW2 as a example for it has the same payment model). Its sure has a fresh breeze to it and I guess it will fit my need to play a game every now and then for couple of hours.

There are 3 different polls on this already why do folks keep posting the same thread, and the same poll.
General consensus on it?

The game is fresh and new (for now) and I had a bit of fun. The story connecting with a TV is pretty cool idea.
But, I just can't see my self sticking around for long IF I even bought it at all.
