Originally posted by SpottyGekko Originally posted by BaikalOriginally posted by SpottyGekkoOriginally posted by BaikalIf you bought the game from Steam, when it unlocked T3, you are entitled to:Discount off the Season PassSo is the $10 off now that discount? How much of a discount is it? Does it apply if you buy now, or only when it goes back up to regular price?
Reaching Tier 3 on Steam unlocked the Season Pass discount for everyone. But as it turns out, that discount is a limited-time offer, which expires on 2 April (launch day).Hmmm, thanks guys!Have to admit I find it interesting it unlocked the discount for everyone. I was kind of hoping that this was a pre-release offer, as opposed to the T3 discount. Well, I don't work for Steam, and afaik Steam themselves have not officially clarified how it all works, so what I said in that quote is only my opinion.
Over in the Steam forums, people are claiming that you can't actually buy the discounted Season Pass if you don't already have a Steam-registered copy of Defiance...
You could say the discount is part of a pre-purchase benefit, so it makes sense that it's only available during the pre-launch period...
Everyone has already received their Tier 2 benefit. Nobody has received a discount coupon for the Season Pass that could be used "at any time in the future".
Good points!
I do wish Steam had clarified it a bit more so we'd know, but it is what it is.
Personally, I was of the mind that I'd wait and see about the DLC, I hate spending before I have any idea exactly what I'll get for the money. In this case, other than those few hits of races and weapons, you really are being asked to go in blindly.
While I enjoyed the weekend beta enough to pre-order, I'm not convinced that I'll be around long enough to invest, and appreciate all the DLC when it is offered. So while I hate to give up a discount, I suspect I probably will.
And no, I'm not complaining, nor am I one of those suggesting it is shady. You see enough of it in the industry these days that it's pretty normal. Some games I've bought, some I haven't, I do hope that I'll want to pick it up here eventually, just because it will mean I am enjoying myself.
Originally posted by ShrewdDuck I wish Steam sold console games, then I would buy all of my games from them includeing Defiance 360 version to get all the goodies.
that would be great. I remember the deal Steam and Sony had with Portal 2 that could be played with a steam account on the PS3 (steam doesnt work on PS3 it was only a portal 2 thing, like a cross game or something). It would be awesome if steam was developed for xbox and ps3 as well but i can see how SOny and Microsoft would LOL hard if they read this. If steam was on consoles both the xbox marketplace and Sony psn wouldnt sell shit lol.
1st. I've heard the UI is terrible for PC users. Is this true or is it at least workable just annoying for example. Or is it an actual hindrance to gameplay.
2nd. What is the season pass?

2nd. What is the season pass?
1) Its workable, it's simply annoying as hell. Not a hinderance to gameplay.
2) Season pass gets you the next 5 DLC's that Trion releases for Defiance. On steam, thats $30 for all 5.

1. Ui is controller friendly, however you can use a mouse and keyboard just fine, it's just different, more of a menu/submenu layout.
Originally posted by SupportPlayerMM I've unlocked so much crap for launch... +16 Inventory, multiple vehicles and weapons IE gamestop pre-order code. Now Defiance season pass is 29.99 on steam.
For how long is it 30 bucks on steam?
Well there's a countdown on the site, so that looks like 2 April to me.

2nd. What is the season pass?
1. If you played DCUO , very similar (although i think the shopping interface is better in Defiance) . It's generally just annoying, definitely not "in the way" or causing issues while you play . I didn't have any particular issues navigating or changing a few settings/skills/shopping. However anywhere when it comes to social interaction, like texting or grouping and those typical MMO'y things, it falls very flat. As you can imagine on a console , no one is going to type on a keyboard, hence the PC , which does have a keyboard, you will feel like they are intentionally trying to make you use your keyboard less.
Also, typical in a PC game, you have DRAG AND DROP type of interactions. This is usually the first hint that something was designed for the console. So almost everything here will be click select -> click to apply type of interaction. Don't expect to drag abilities into slots or drag inventory items anywhere, that's usually what tends to be most annoying for me.
I must add, since this is not a traditional MMO with an "action bar" with 10 abilities on it. You will probably only do what FPS players do, switch weapons, throw grenades, activate things, use a special ability and check the map . So the UI is perfectly fine for that. They obviously want you to use Voice Comms for serious player interactions , but there is a screen to type in, but it didn't seem to work as great as standard MMO chat screen does.
2. It's 5 DLC packs. No one really knows what is in the DLCs, but treat it as pre-ordering 5 DLCs in advance. Chances are each DLC will come out on a monthly basis (hopefully faster) and will likely cost $10 . This implies the season pass is most likely worth $50, assuming you still play by the time the 5th DLC is released. So i hope it's a 2-weekly thing, coinciding with the TV Series patterns, rather than monthly, because i rarely play a MMO for longer than 3 months these days.
If you look at what DCUO did with their DLCs. Sometimes it's an extra area with additional story. Sometimes it's a new class/skillset (i.e. they released the Green Lantern/Light powerset as a DLC like this). Sometimes it's items or personal areas or new functionality (like player housing). I personally hope Trion throw in actual story/PvE content (like what Bioware do with Mass Effect) rather than more vehicles or guns in these DLCs. It's good if they ALSO add items, but i expect actual story/area additions first.
I know Secret World for example generally added story arcs to the existing world. So they didn't add new areas, just more quests and stories. This works if you do it fast , but later on when players are maxing out, you really need to add new areas and fresh content, players aren't going to pay for rehashed quests in areas they've already ran up and down for months.
So unfortunately, with Trion having their DLCs for sale so early, without giving any details, it very well might be an extra vehicle/weapon/weapon mod combined with a few more story type of quests in the existing world. There are hints of new races also, but considering that means a re-roll for merely cosmetic purposes, not so sure how useful that would be to me.
I dunno. The whole DLC thing seems closer to a sub fee. And a season to me is only a few months. So after the "season" pass is done, you start paying again. ehhhhhh
