Whether you like the changes or not, the Star Wars: Galaxies NGE has made a great number of changes to the game, and has left a number of players wondering just exactly what it is that is going on. The developers have released a FAQ section on their official website in the hopes of clearing up some of the questions that players may have about the update.
How do the nine new professions relate to the existing profession templates? Knowing this could be a difficult transition for many of our players, we have lined-up several options to help make this as easy as possible. First, you will be allowed to choose any one of the nine professions and transition to that profession at a level commensurate with your current level. For example, if you are maxed-out at level 80, you will transition over as a level 80 character into your profession of choice. Veterans (all players having started their characters before the enhancements are introduced) will receive nine review ("re-spec") opportunities that allow them to sample the new professions before making a final decision. This gives everyone the opportunity to try out each of the new professions at least once at their current skill level. In the event you are unhappy with your choice of profession, you can "re-spec" and try out one of the others until you find the one you like best or until you are at your final opportunity. **IMPORTANT** Note that there are a total of ten (10) re-spec charges (opportunities), but one is "used-up" on the initial transition, so players will then have nine charges left after choosing their initial iconic profession. How do the iconic profession paths work? As part of the transition process you will receive 9 options to try out the nine different new professions. There is also an in-game video that highlights each of the special skills and abilities of the selected professions (also available on our web site in the new player section). Once you have decided on a profession, simply select it and re-allocate/"re-spec" your existing skill points (for current players) within your new chosen profession. From there, you can begin taking quests and earning experience (XP), you can then use to purchase the next skill on your path. In the event you aren't happy with your chosen profession, don't worry - you can "re-spec" your existing skill points up to nine times, excluding your initial chosen profession. |

I for one will never spend a dime with SOE again and I'm still waiting on my refund for ToOW.
"Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard drive?"
From the Classic Tag Lines collection.
Used to be a great, if somewhat buggy game. Now it's just extremely buggy. Move along citizen.
I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
They forgot to mention if you respec to artisan or entertainer and then to something else, you loose your combat level because the respec is coded to cheat the artisan and entertainer classes. SO you _have_ to respec back to your original, then to something else to get your combat level back to what it was.
If you were originally a master artisan or entertainer. Tough luck.
Can you say DEATH KNELL? As usual SOE has put out a major change based on anyone's best guess and they are paying the price for it. Honestly, I think they do their market research based on two 15 year old boys they happen to know.
Combat upgrade was a failure, The Wookie expansion was riddled with bugs, I left just before teh mustafar nightmare was released but I'm laughing at how inept this development team is.
They are giveing REFUNDS for a game they released less than THREE weeks ago!
You just have to wonder if Goerge is even paying attention.
Wow. Just when you thought SOE couldn't screw up this game any worse...they screw it up worse.
One of the strengths of SWG was always the numerous professions, and the way you could mix skills to be whatever you wanted. Sure, a lot of people focused on the combat templates, but not everyone, and lots of folks would experiment with secondary skills. Now that's going away, and you have to fit into one of 9 classes, and no mixing? It was bad enough when the CU took away the ability of a crafter to fight, now this crap.
And speaking of crafters, they removed item decay? So now items are eternal. Who is ever going to need to buy new stuff? All the new players flocking to SWG? Um, no.
Look, SOE just needs to admit they don't know what they're doing, and just make this game for the Leet kiddies. When you enter the game, you have one class to choose from....Jedi. Here's your lightsaber, now go pound away on each other. If you're losing, just Force Run away while spamming insults, and if you die, no biggie, it's not like there has been much of a penalty for death in a while, and with no decay, there is none.
I liked how last week there was an article about SOE trying to improve their image and win back some folks with their new total package and other perks. This, after three or four months since the CU loudly proclaiming that eveyone loved SWG and their numbers were better than ever. They must have Baghdad Bob as their spokesman. And their usage numbers? They flat-out lie.
I was new player when the CU came out, so while I didn't like the changes, they didn't affect me too much. But the NGE totally makes my summer and fall of playing totally worthless. I was working toward Creature Handler, and one charactor was a Master Architect. I also bought TooW. I haven't had a change to get in game as yet, but I doubt I'll stay too long. My friends have already cancelled their accounts. I'd like to give it a chance, but will probably move on to another game.

That part about giving the kiddies their light sabers and running around spamming insults pretty much sums up my first few minutes after leaving the tutorial space station last night. Decided to give it a shot and check out the NGE last night. Got tired of Han Solo's quests up their in space so decided to let Han give me a ride down to Bestine. I spent about 10 minutes tops before I had enough of what seemed to be quite a large gathering of Jedi's in training spamming back and forth "Pwned", "You ran your gay" ETC. That just totally immersed me in the Star Wars universe. Anyways may have liked some of the changes, didn't like the majority of the crowd down there practicing their Jedi mind tricks so done with it..
Goodbye to the end of an era, Starwars.
I am a veteran of this game. I have played since release, was Jedi #12, and have build the most beautiful city in the game, Mos Entooine, Tatooine, which has Fort Tuscan as its neighbor on Bloodfin server.
Our family played starwars and had more than a dozen accounts including a total of 3 Jedi. For the past 6 months we have decreased them to just 2 and hardly play more than 2 hours a week.
For Aillia, she quietly maintains a hundred or so static harvesters in her last days, as they will also go away soon forever as decided by SOE. It is a sad ending to a once beauful, complex, albeit somewhat buggy game.
The friends we have made will be friends forever, no matter the game. We have moved on to World of Warcraft now and if we had to compare, it is a joy to pvp and not be hammered by insults from the other side. We have a strange feeling of freedom since it is far less complicated. MMORPG gaming has become fun again!
We look forward to Dungeons and Dragons and Pirates of the Burning Seas.
My analysis of what went wrong with SWG? The introduction of Jedi killed the game. There were skilled crafters who supported the fighters and the game was at its peak when SOE said ooo, Jedi! Drop your profession you have so keenly mastered and grab another, and another, and another, and yet another, or 28 more to become a beginning level Jedi then grind on the same mobs for 10 months or so to be uber! Throw in a couple of perma-deaths so you sit long hours in a closet alone in the Universe between grinding sessions, and dont DARE play too close to your friends or you will be killed!
Yup! jedi killed it. The exact opposite of what the Jedi's purpose in the Universe was in the first place, to SAVE it! Your developers let you down, Sony. You were the best, if not the real first well-defined MMORPG we all loved. Even asking Obi-won for help won't save it. /sigh
The player economy was one of the few outstanding things about this game, and one that gave it the uniqueness that allowed it to say "hey, this is a great game, and we aren't EQ!". Now that crafting is almost dead and buried, and that the player economy is now almost soley based on loot, it's uniqueness has disappeared, and along with it, the multitude of players who gave the game their all to make it great.
The NGE, like the proverbial bullet to the head, has managed to do for the game what it has been desperately crying out for ever since Patch 9 and the introduction of the Alpha class.......it's finally been put out of its misery.
Vale SWG, you were a great game to play once, and I for one shall always remember the golden age of the game with a sigh for what was, and for what could of been, and for shall now never be again.
Rock on EVE and the upcoming Red Moon Rising expansion (which is being given away for free btw SOE/LA - hint, hint).
Comfortably nestles in the folds of a well run, well thought out game and tries to forget that SWG ever existed.
