Game worth trying?

I usually don't post these kinds of threads but...

I'm thinking about canceling my EvE Online Account and trying the SWG Starter kit thing for a month (15$, right?)

Now I have 2 questions.

1. Is it worth getting over Eve? Are there still players alive and well? Is it worth it? I've played the trial for awhile and have a level 6 or something commando, liking it so far.

2. How do I get this starter kit? I know its $15, and you can buy it online, right?

Those are my questions, answer as fully as you can, and thanks in advance.

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

Well being a SWG veteran since launch my natural response is NO!

But being objective, WAIT a couple months. Right now it is buggy as hell for me. They say they are patching everything, but this is SOE we are talking about. Game breaking bugs is their calling card. And they usually arent too speedy about fixing them unless its something that is allowing characters to advance temselves too fast. They are also supposed to introduce a talent system similar to WoWs. Until that point in time its going to be pretty dry as far as a gaming experience goes. Although usually the first few weeks of any new MMO are pretty fun. The lack of class diversity will really hurt the game. So again, wait a couple months and see if they will actually follow through and concentrate on fixing the bugs instead of bringing out something new. Keep in mind this is a completely new system that hasnt been beta tested but for a handful of days. Hopefully SOE will get it in gear this time and do what needs to be done.

There is a free trial. Thus it's worth trying.

But be forewarned: It is NOTHING like SWG used to be so go in expecting something entirely different than anything you've ever read about SWG.

Yeah, thats true, forgot about the free membership. My suggestion is to make sure to put a lot of time in to make sure you know what you are getting into. Does ToOW come with the new Starter Kit?

In the ads that I've seen, the Starter Kit includes the original game plus Jump to Lightspeed.

No, the starterkit strangely enough only contains Empire divided and jump to lightspeed, and the price is similar to The total experience, wich also includes Rotw, so unless i misunderstood something its cheaper to just buy "the total experience" pack? image

    Game worth trying?

I'm very sorry to say it, but, IMO, it is not worth playing anymore. I'm not one of the 2yr veterans who are peaved about their ruined 2yr hegemony (and I'm not saying that all the vets are peaved, or that those who are peaved are peaved about a loss of supremacy). I've been playing the game for only 6 months. In that time, I have seen some positive and negative changes to the pre-NGE game. I have been lucky in meeting and allying myself with some very good and thoughtful players who, like me, are big RP'ers and lovers of Star Wars (yeah, I'm old). With help and advice, I developed my character, and started a new guild, which was just beginning to get some momentum when the NGE was announced. Before the NGE, however, I never thought the game itself was all that "Star Warsy," but I always thought it had the potential to be so. Truth is that the Star Wars in SWG was all in the minds of the great RP community. The semi-turn based combat was right on for an RPG, and this move to a realtime 3rd person shooter combat system is a disastrous mistake, not to mention to saming of characters by locking everyone into one of 9 dumbed-down professions.
Believe what you want, of all that you read, but I can testify that the community, which was the real redemption of the game, is rapidly disintegrating. This isn't a guess, or a half-baked assumption based on rumors I have read on forums, or a hasty evaluation based on 10 minutes playing the NGE on a test server. As a guild leader, it has been my privelege to associate with other guild leaders of my faction, sharing information and resources with them, and offering and taking advice. I've heard from them uniformly that their members are leaving the game, reducing the membership of these guilds by 50-90%, across the board. Those who complain about the ruin of the game are not a vocal minority. The mass exodus precipitated by the NGE is far more extensive than many dubious posters here and elsewhere would have you believe, and there is good reason for it. Some players surely do miss the elite status they enjoyed at the end of 2yrs grinding, hording, meta-gaming, etc, but most players honestly miss the immersive and engrossing escape experience they enjoyed as a community, in the formerly more complex system, which allowed far more diversity of character profiles. The new game is shaping up to be a really pathetic farce of a console game for kids, but the greatest detractor is the loss of the excellent community. If you want to play a realtime shooter in the Star Wars galaxy, Jedi Knight II would be a far better choice. I reluctantly cancelled my subscription to SWG yesterday, and I will miss it.

(If some of you are wondering, because this is my first post, whether I registered on this forum merely to trash the SWG NGE, stop wondering. I merely came here to find a new game. I saw SWG on the list, and, after reading some of the unbelievable posts here, felt I should offer one more honest post, hopefully to save some of the members here some money that could be better spent on a better game.)

Personally I could go on and on about why the game now sucks.

    But...

There's a free trial. Give it a whirl. But remember this... there is NOTHING as good as the noob station as far as that Star Warsy feel.

Now I have 2 questions. Okay
    1. Is it worth getting over Eve? Are there still players alive and well? Is it worth it? I've played the trial for awhile and have a level 6 or something commando, liking it so far. Well, yes, yes and yes. If you played the trial (I'm guessing the recently released one) than you will like the rest of the game.
    2. How do I get this starter kit? I know its $15, and you can buy it online, right?I have no clue how you get the kit. I do know that there will be a special item that lets you call down a tie fighter or xwing from anywere to pick you up and take you to a starport.
Those are my questions, answer as fully as you can, and thanks in advance.Your welcome dewd

Oh and if you havn't tried the free trial i expect you to do so first to see if you like it.

Being an SWG veteran myself, this guy is right on the money. I have since gone...too many bugs and not enough fixing. Ive read up on alot of the changes they are making and it would seem this game could turn around for the better once again. If you havent yet played it, maybe you would enjoy it. But for some of the other players who were there since day 1, I think they killed it and there is no chance of getting a player like myself to come back. Even with these interesting changes...

Yeah, wait a couple of months on this game. They pushed all those changes out (probably to meet the upcoming Xmas rush among other reasons) and the game simply was not ready.

Why would they push out  that for xmas? Who in their right mind would buy SWG when all these other games are out? And that is comming from a guy who likes SWG lol.

Well thanks for the responses so far. Yes i've played the new trial on the station, I'm on about day 4, completed all but a few of the space missions, sucks it doesn't let you past Tenshi Point Station, I've been to Station Gamma too.

Well since I have nothing else to do I've decided ill try this out for a month to see if it fits my style of play. Though the only problem i've seen so far is the damned chat window, they should add separate tabs.

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

Who in their right mind wouldn't be putting out anything for the Xmas rush? Even if it's just a free trial. LOL. It just makes good business sense for any game company to attract people to the game for Xmas. Not so much to attract people like you and me, but to attract people like relatives or friends who aren't gamers themselves but know you like games and would consider getting you a good game for Xmas.

Not saying that it'll go well for em ::::02::, I think any game company would be insane to release a product with that many bugs. Just sayin'.

At this price it's worth a try, especially if you are new to the game.

It's basic math really - what a month ago was the price of the ToOW expansion, is now the price of the entire game PLUS a month's subscription...including that expansion.

You can't go wrong for your money, unless you intend to log on today. That would be a mistake.

I say wait until the LGE, the Last Game Experience, or when they finally get around to the last iteration of SWG to try it. At least then you won't have to worry about creating a character that won't exist 6 months from now.
