I cannot wait for standalone as the the mod hasn't really had much development since like September last year. Everyone is becoming bored of it now and like anything that stagnates, they get their fair share of haters. However I'm still playing the game and for me it proves that the open sandbox hardcore MMO could still work. Having permadeath, not having limited linear progression like level based games, one big open world without bullshit instances and FFA PVP. The most important thing though is the game is so fun to play with friends, it doesn't restrict it with bullshit levels that split everyone up because if you advance slightly faster, then suddenly you wont see each other until end level.

MMOs these days are really MMOs, most barely support 50 people in one zone, all instanced to hell and you only ever play on your own. It's funny that when Dayz SA is released, that'll feel much more like an MMO, especially with the play count rising and the map becoming bigger and crafting being introduced.

I just wish MMOs for the hardcore still existed, rather than these dumbed down WoW clones. Even The Elder Scrolls has taken what was unique about that series and turned it into WoW. The one Single Player game series people used to say would suit being an MMO, only a fun one because the quests aren't all tedious.

Hopefully Dayz has proved though, there are 1.6 million players out there who want this kind of game.

The DayZ standalone better not be prone to hackers as that is what ruined the mod. Even on the private servers, DayZ is still very boring and the zombies AI is crap.  DayZ was very fun for about 2 months and then the novelty wore off. Also the fact that there was nothing to do once you had good guns or a sniper rifle. People just ended up going to camp the coastal starter cities making it rare you run into someone outside of them.

Also running to the NWAF or stary sobor took way to long and then you ended up getting shot by a sniper and wasting an hours worth of running made the game not fun.

There is a ton of people who prefer Hardcore MMOs, or Semi Core MMOS..

But there are more casuals, and thats where the money is.

The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.

The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, solo Questing, Cut-Scenes...
