The moment we fund we get started on getting our internal forums up and running. They are crucial to the development process for CU. The guys at MMORPG/subreddit have been very supportive but they/we know we have to have our own forums.

Nice. Keeping them ducks in line. :)

I would be quite content with IP.Board or Vanilla.

I suppose this may be my call to make. :-)

I'm leaning towards either Vanilla (solid and known but still fairly slick, and hosting services are available) or Discourse (shinier and way, way more interactive, but still a somewhat unproven quantity). Post your preferences!

As far as "why have our own forums", the biggest reason is that through development->testing->alpha->beta we'll want a space that we can control access to in order to maintain a good signal-to-noise ratio. Don't worry, we'll still engage with the larger community, but discussion about a bug doesn't benefit from drive-by commentary from people who haven't even played the game yet.

Just looked at Vanilla and Discourse and think vbulletin is best.

Wow! vbulletin proving that sometimes the if it ain't broke, don't fix it! That system is old, but hey if it's dependable, why not! :-)

If they want to go with something bulky and traditional, IP.Board is better than vBulletin, in my opinion. vBulletin is owned by a horrible company and the direction that board has gone in is terrible.

They could even go with XenForo, made by some ex-vBulletin developers. It is looking good.

Think you could creat a thread that has some pics of what the thread page looks like, what the posting screen looks like, and some info on commands like

that vbulletin has?  Turn the post into a poll and see what people think is the best.

I'd like the official forums to have better notification system than MMORPG.  So you get a notification whenever you are @mentioned or quoted.  It really helps on replying to questions/flame/praises/etc.

Not that it has anything to do with type of forum used, but please have server forums at launch!!!

Another feature that would be cool, not sure how hard it would be to program, but some way to "capture" an avatar picture of your character from the character selection screen to automatically upload to your forum account would be cool.  Instead of the normal "pick a generic game related avatar of healer1, healer2, or healer3..."
