Myself and a few gamer buddies got into a pretty good debate on the 3 main classes in MMORPGs.
Warrior, Rouge, and Mage.
I argued that the warrior is always the main "Best" class to choose because of the high strength and defense, I mean come on, defense is the key word here. If you can take a lot of damage and give a lot of damage in return of course it's the best class. The tank role is the best role for when you want to be the solo guy who can destroy all in his path with a few swings and taking we amounts of damage.
One friend complained, " Well the rouge class eventually allows you the dexterity to eventually not have to worry about getting hits because most of the time the monster will miss you, plus rouges are fast with their hit rate so connecting a lot of small damaged hits fast allows their health to go down quicker knwoing you most like'y won't get that injured is better than being a slow guy on steroids bashing enemies slowly with a lot of damage at once."
And the last one complained, " Mages are obvisouly better than both because most MMOs allow the mage to do damage on a large amount of monsters at once, than going one by one to each mob. Plus most of the time it's long range so you could possibly kill them before they can even touch you, unless the time to summon the spell is slow."
So I would like to ask you all, which do you think is better?

Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"
This a hard question because you are using such vagueness in your classes. The Warrior for example, can break down into many different sub classes, that aren't all defensive or heavy offensive. Think a Paladin vs Berzerker.
also same rule apply to casters. What about a healing Mage? That doesn't fit your poll.
Same for rogue. Not everything fits the same for rogue.
Rift's IP is a great example of what I mean here.
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
Nice pic, DB was the best in the series
So, dex, str or int... I loved Joanna's fighter in Dorkness Rising on this subject: lvl9 fighter with 45 hp, without a strength bonus, highest stat is her intelligence, with bonuses on dex and charisma, because "intelligence is more important than strength". Bottom line, with her charisma she'd be able to talk her way out of most fights
Edit: sorry that was p'n'p D&D and not mmo which you asked. So, in mmo I'd pick wisdom / will / etc. what needed for priest, mini, shaman or other healer class.
Sorry for the confusing, I am talking about the 3 main classes that are mostly used in MMORPGS, Which is mostly really, Warrior, Rouge, and Mage. I'm not going far to break it down all the way through the sub-classes but what you're saying really does make sense. The main question I am asking is, would you want your character to be.., stronger than most players, faster than most players, or have an higher intelligence over most players.
I know this is a hard question but I was just trying to make it simple with just 3 classes, going into the sub-classes would take a lot more time of the debate and plus a lot more players to actually give their opinion. Plus we have to make sure we talk about and played the right MMORPGs with the right content to back up our opinion.
Ha, that's exactly what my friend said. But speaking on luck, that most of the time goes with the rouge class, I never seen an MMO that gave Mage's an higher increase in luck, matter of fact it always seemed to be the opposite for me. -_- Everytime I choose a mage class I would have to spam spells, and it made me actually have to buy MP Potions.
Warriors use up a lot of MP sometimes too, but they don't use skills/spells constantly in every piece of battle.
A waste of money for me, same going for with Archers and arrows.
