New to EQ, should I go EQ1 or EQ2

darnapkindarnapkin Member UncommonPosts: 146

mmo vet here, I was playing daoc while eq was out so I missed out on it.

I'm looking to play with a close group of friends if your guild will have me :)  just not sure which game I should try first.

Pretty sure I'll try EQ1, but I know nothing about it, if you would like to quickly teach me about the game, please let me know!

thanks

EQ1 is really really hard to get into if you are used to playing newer games, the graphics are by far the biggest detractor but its not really a questing game (it may have changed since I played) but its mostly just go exploring and kill stuff as you go, dungeon crawling.  The combat is very sit and wait style, turn auto attack on and maybe hit kick or bash every 10seconds.  The damage you deal as a melee is largely based on your gear and there are very little class skills that are not passives.

I would honestly suggest going EQ2 as it is at least graphically more pleasing and has tons and tons of content you can do with friends.  It is more questing based like more modern games are with lots of spell/abilities to press as you fight.

if you want an mmo like todays versions, then you'll want EQ2

EQ1 today,is a shell of its former self, the official version anyway(the other version i have to keep hush hush on these forums about).

If you want something unique, something out of the ordinary from todays standards, you'll want EQ1.

It'll lead you back to the time when your hand wasnt held.

I agree with these recommended servers.

Also, go for eq2.  EQ1 is past it's prime.

If you haven't already, I'd post in this forum.  The people that hang out there tend to be fairly helpful.

Personally I liked EQ1 better, but I started back in early 2000 when the game was in its heyday......EQ2 was always too quest oriented for me and felt like it was always trying to be WoW......I'd probably recommend Vanguard instead of EQ2 but it is crappy technology wise and Im not sure yo uand all your friends could run it without issues.
