The point of this tehc demo is not to show off actual gameplay or models; the point is to prove they can render hundreds or thousands of models moving independently at once, without the graphics system of a PC grinding to a halt. This has been an issue in many MMORPGs that try to do large-scale PvP (see Guild Wars 2 for a recent example).

Basically, they are showing us they have the technology to do what they claim. They need the funding to now make it happen. I chipped in, hopefully others do, too.

Get your facts straight, the problem wasn't rendering it was netcode. There are other tech demos already out there showing tons of characters renedered on screen. Rendering many models is nothing new, getting it to work on an actual video game is another deal. That's why I was dissapointed.

5 million people on screen at the same time would be a bit much hehe

    lol

Well, it can be an issue with netcode, look at Eve for example. They can easily show 2k+ ships onscreen with no real problems client side. Pretty much all of the lag comes from server side.

Maybe they arent looking hard enough for an engine because Kingdom Under Fire 2 is developing their own engine that will do what he is saying on low end machines as well, maybe they should see if they cant buy into their engine.

    For the record,

In the entire history of video games, there has never been a final product that delivered on a tech demo's claims.

Was that "really" 10k on screen at the same time? I lost count at 7,432...

Comments like 'without in-game it has no value' are seriously starting to bug me. I guess I expected better from this community. CSE is asking for our help to DEVELOP A GAME! How could they possibly have in-game anything if they haven't developed it yet. They are trying to innovate in an area (mmos) that has been all about the almighty subscription base for the last 5 years at least. This game sorely needs to be made but is currently at odds with the people who don't even take the time to read or listen about the project but feel ok in bad mouthing it.

If you don't want to help build a game that's fine - I get it. But stop with the retarded comments.

Got to applaud them for showing their intentions with tech + design = what's possible and what's a real challenge to deliver.

GJ. Much more substantial even if it's a small demo (in principle eg) than most "excited, exciting" waffle.
