I have not played Darkfall: Unholy Wars, but as an MMORPG enthusiast I did follows its development fairly closely and watched most of the videos, as well as read "leaks." It sounds like it needed a few extra months to bake; hopefully it will be enough for the fans.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

I'll believe it when I see it.

After all, it's still AV we're talking about here. Get ready to get Tasos'd. Again.

Well even if it does release its basically just gonig to be a paid beta test...

Its also missing a ton of features the old game had.. AV have totally messed up with this..

DF was a great gaem that needed a few tweaks and fixes to get people interested in it again. They needed to have a skill cap, fix bunny hopping, fix exploits fast and ban people who used them, fix hit detection but not how they have done it.. and reduce the speed your character gained skill.. other than that the mechanics where really good and it was one of my all time favourite mmos.. sure its not for everyone FFA PVP with full loot is niche at best..

DF:UW is jsut a mess simple..

Oh, wasn't this suppose to be launched, like what 5-6 months ago? From the sounds of it, it sounds quite sketchy. Well, guess its a wait and see just how it turns out if the 'redo' of sorts makes it better or if its worst off.

Yes it was ready for release in nov and they didnt need to do an extensive beta test because they had tested in house and everything was perfect..

The problem now is the lack of content. Is ok for a launch? maybe ... if they patch in a decent timeframe and not as they did on past.

    Yes sure.

Of course the dwellers and deluded will come forth and cry because they cant play the trainwreck of a game that was DF 1 and curse this game to the ground if they have to, but the fact remains that if DF 1 was a good game we would play it today.

I could point out a bunch of negatives, but I'll instead agree with this statement and try too look at it from positive side.

It is true that a lot of content (ships, placeholder char models, unfinished dungeons, and more..)  which was once already in DF1 is now missing, and some new features (more classes and skills) yet to come soon (avrio)... but they did improve the game in ways to make it more pleasant and friendly for wider audience than what DF1 had.

You now have safe zones, auto ress, summon friend, huge decrease on available skills to use at one time (class limits) which removes the need to use scripts(!!) for combat skills like it used to be almost mandatory in old DF, AND the removal of macroing(!!) in the most part (new prowes system).

So unless you're a complete negative nancy you can't close your eyes and pretend they did nothing. They're actually really trying to change game to please wider audience yet still retain hardcore style as much as possible. Kudos for that.

Sadly tho they are not the best and biggest company and they have their own share of problems which reflects on new DF:UW as well. There's a very good chance UW will be more popular than old DF tho if AV goes their old ways of silence and no updates anytime after release than we will see history repeating itself quicker than before.

Edit: What worries me most is the balancing aspect they opened up with introduction of classes (something they nicely avoided before with no classes). It is an everlasting shit storm you have to keep handling somehow, a neverending battle which I'm worried if AV is able to properly handle(most likely not).

Listen to player feedback in beta from AV has mostly fallen on deaf ears. They've got their own vision for the game and their sticking to it depite many attempts by beta testers to point out the flaws in their plan. Most DF1 players hate the downgrade that is DFUW.

Don't forget people orignal norwegian developers like claus dont work there anymore most developers are greeks now with tasos as spokesman.

Its obvious that Darkfall unreal wars not same as DFO1.

In the light of the last change, Wobble patch, your statement seems quite unthoughtful and unjust. Wobble change was one of the most popular  demands  and cry-outs of beta players.

And if it was that grim and black&white as you want to paint, AV wouldn't have adressed and changed so many things for UW.

    Obviously they can't please everyone.

In fact I hope they won't overstretch listening to players, because most of them can't even have a proper dialogue with fellow human being, or even less posess the wisdom to see the big picture, to be able to tie in present and planned future changes and the avalanche of  hidden consequences that a simple implemented change can bring with on more than one level.

  • CaldrinCaldrin Member UncommonPosts: 4,505
Your right they cant please everyone but DF:UW is basically AV taking massive steaming turd on their loyal fan base..
  • StarIStarI Member UncommonPosts: 987

Something they aready started about 3 years ago when they abandoned DF1 for a new version.

I quit DF1 a year and a half back when I relised this exactly and saw no future for it.

I'll be there again for UW and hopefuly  it turns for the better than DF1.

DFUW has it's good and bad points.

Slower combat, roles, looks to be quiet stable, supprisingly few bugs (for a small company), the new leveling system is genius, more direction for players, much improved GUI, way quicker to become competitive and join in...

But on the other hand it also lacks a lot of the content I expected to be introduced into the beta. Market, dungeons more mobs and more boats. They've said they will be rolled out at release and the following weeks but they really do need to stick to that promise to keep people interested.

This game will be a no brainer buy for people wanting FPS controls, conquest, full loot, a harder MMO or something new. If you're wanting WoW styled dungeons and fluff you may not enjoy the game as much.

Missed this post. Got to reply as i was there for DnL too!

Was the first and last time I got scammed. First and last time I trusted delirious overhyped mass of players without doing any reall research myself!

DFUW is nothing like DnL was. Milles and milles ahead.

Never possible, with any mmo, regardless of population size.

You haven't played very many MMOs I am guessing. Validated exploiting of mechanics that create an unfair advantage over other gamers usually is patched in quality MMOS anymore. As far as DFUW goes though, I have no idea on their policy.

  • McGamerMcGamer Member UncommonPosts: 1,073
From what I have heard, DFUW will be launching with an extremely large list of missing content. If that is the case, it sounds like it is headed for the failed MMO list again like with its previous version. I'll pass

Anyone claiming DF:UW combat is slow paced is so incredibly clueless I don't know what to do but to point them to the nearest church.

It is *slightly* slower paced than DF 1's combat, but it is still fast paced FPS combat.

DF:UW will never be ready. Is it ready enough? I definitely think it is, but they need to keep patching after launch. I have faith they will.

Slightly lol. You havent been playing beta? People pop rest in the middle of combat or it ends up being a draw and both walk away because they dont have enough stamina to attack anymore.

Transfers have net loss, so you can not fight and win outnumbered like in darkfall 1. I actually won 1v3 duels in darkfall 1... impossible in darkfall UW because you will run out of stats before you even can kill the first person. It's a mess.

There aren't too many bugs in the beta right now, and stability is OK outside of a few crashes that a recent patch introduced, and these will probably be resolved soon since they are recent additions and not something hanging around since the start.

A lot of people are upset UW doesn't deliver the same amount of content and the same combat the original game provided. The combat is slower paced, and the amount of abilities you have at any given time is limited. This was done in response to the grind of the original game, and having to master a hundred different abilities for very niche perposes (often perposes that were not even intended). UW changed all this, and a lot more, and people aren't liking it as much.

The good news is that Aventurine sees their mistakes and will be (attempting to) patch these issues before launch, assumed tomorrow.

Is the game rough in the 'feel' and lacking in content? Yes. But the game is stable, the foundation in solid now (it wasn't solid 5 months ago to be fair). In the short term plan after launch, five critical content additions are already in the works, such as dungeons, the market, and ships. So all the doom-saying aside, the game still has a fair shot at being succesful, so hold on to your torches until after the first 30 days of launch.

I really haven't kept up with this release, but it looks to me like what they did was decide having a pure, unadulterated sandox game for hard-core PvP didn't make them enough money, so they made it more mainstream.

I don't think that was a good move for the true Darkfall enthusiast; whether it makes them more money or not, only time will tell, but I'm thinking a WoW-ified version of DF is going to crash and burn. (Not bashing WoW here, just saying it's the game clueless bean-counters at publishing houses aspire to. WoW is a good themepark game.)

Have played: Everquest, Asheron's Call, Horizons, Everquest2, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall
