I personally havn't seen much attention lately from this game nor do i play it. However, when i think of this game, I think of how much flak and criticism it gets. But then i have seen some streams and vods of this game and it looks great. The game looks beautiful, runs well, and the pvp looks engaging, attractive, and really fun. But why does this game get so much shit from the MMO community?
Comments
Two reasons that I can think of.
One. It is called Darkfall. So many have been burned by the original game, that they just lump this title in with their past failures without actually giving it a chance.
And two. Many of the original players were scripters, macro'ers, botters and the like. They are upset that the 'natural order' of things were changed. Even thougn the game is significantly better now, they refuse to change with it because they no longer have an edge. Many of the exploits that were used by veterans in the past have been fixed, and they aren't happy for it. They are unfortunately very vocal about it.
Give the game a shot. It's a lot better. While it still has it's issues, but what game doesn't?
....Being Banned from MMORPG's forums since 2010, for Trolling the Trolls!!!
From what i've seen from streams, there are minimal stamina regen spells. The high cost of abilities seem to be more of a skill based thing so people can't spam constantly no?
It suffers from the original games repuation, people hold grudges over past mistakes.
AV has in the past and even a couple of months ago shown appauling communication. Nothing like the daily updates and community liasons we see now.
A group of DF1 vets don't enjoy the slower combat in DFUW, hence give the game major flak. Others enjoyed botting and macroing to advance and get ahead, which is no longer possible.
Then there are a few genuine concerns regarding the lack of market/dungeons before the game launches. However AV promises to add these in afterwards.
On these forums especially it's worth overlooking a few posters who have 800+ posts purely to drive people away from this game and alt accounts to do the same. Watch the video, watch the streams and read up on the games core concepts. If that's what you like there's no other game out there quiet like DFUW now. However the game still needs work to be done and isn't 100% perfect.
Still unsure? Wait until a month after release and see what the game is like then
I did a beta of the original, really disliked the UI, but just remember all the macroing, ball dropping and such, and while things seem to maybe be better, they are still missing deadlines and other things it seems....So from the outside, it looks like maybe not a lot has changed.
Game seems to look better, but once you disappoint people, it is hard to earn them as customers again.
Some skills are little too high atm, a middle ground is needed
AV needs to put out at the least a year of steady communication, reaching deadlines, content updates, and patchs that don't further break the game before I will even begin to consider their reputation as "on the mend". They are just that bad of a company currently.
Its a PvP MMO with full loot. Every game like that, for what ever reason, gets flak. I guess some PvE players are threthened that if it becomes the norm it will make their games no longer fun to play for them.
Its ran by AV and AV has a bad track record of "being honest' and meeting dead lines
The game is drastically different than the original DFO in a lot of ways. Some DFO vets were execpting UW to be, in terms of combat anyways, an exact clone with more content in the game instead of what UW is which is, basically, a nearly complete redesign in terms of character progression, combat, and content. Many have rose colored glasses and claim that content was promised that is now missing instead of being able to see "well that content didn't work well anyways" With a new launch, its best to leave broken content out
Thats pertty much it. People feel lied to and betrayed.

Haha, I guess its good for me since I didn't pre order last November i believe (correct me of I'm wrong) so I didn't get let down and such nor have I fallen victim to Adventurine's lies. However, I have seen the most up to date gameplay and I'm looking forward to launch. Thanks for the input by the way.
Could write a page or two but to just sum it up:
cos AV.
There is one reason why it gets so much negative reputation:
The Developer Aventurine, they have a horrible community interaction which goes up to lieing to there customers ( the game was release ready on Nov2012 and only LAST issues prevented a release). They announced a beta and release delay without a set date ON the date when it was supposed to release ( Dec.2012). Yet it took 3 month to make it playable and another two to balance things ( with a patch adressing combat this week).
And there is still content missing like dungeons and marketplace and roles ofc that will come after release.
This was never really communitcated well and thats why this game has so much negative feedback.
The game itself is something new (if you didnt play Darkfall) and more interesting than many of the other themeparks out there
Because it has 13 years documented development, was remade at least twice and still plays like early beta. The problem is AV was never able to take it beyond that quality level.
I have no idea where exactly faults lie, but the fact is AV team doesn't have the skill and resources to pull it off in ANY ( not even reasonable ) time frame. They make awful PR and game design decissions and their programmers are either too few or too poor to deliever quality.
Because most the MMO community want auto attack combat you can play with 1 hand, and pvp that is a contest of of time investment, not actual skill.
even if they say they want something different to wow, they dont. if they did they would buy this game despite its many flaws.
My blog:
Wow .... I think the amount of people that dislike this game because " it's different " is wildly exagerated to you. =/
The one who wants to play a skill based game will never even consider MMO genre. NEVER.
The game gets shit, cause battles that people see in the videos are all about horribly tacticless runnig around, swinging your sword through the air with poor animations.
Put Stockholm Syndrome and Battered Wife Syndrome in a meat grinder and eat that shit for 10 years.
You don't follow it or play so it is will be hard for you to really understand, but Tasos and Aventurine have been treating customers like dirt and straight up lying to us for 10 years.
Sounds like your looking for an Arcade type game than a rpg. This is exactly how i like the combat because it gives a more realistic feel. You should never be able to non stop spam combat without resting.
FFXI did it this way and is my favorite combat design of any game.I am not saying DF is anywhere close to the depth of FFXI but when you create a slower system ,it allows for action and reaction, without it,then becomes spam or button mashing as many like to call it.
I know a little off base but slower combat also makes it VERY or at least much easier to spot cheaters.
I might also add that one of my peeves about Asian f2p games is the "lack of" animations.Reason is simple,it is lazy animation work,it means less .ani frames which is what makes up a animation. That is why most f2p animations look so fast they look unreal and youi can't even follow half the animation.
SO i am not rating DF at all, just saying that they are at least doing combat correctly in a sense that it offers the best possible combat design.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I've seen the videos, I do not think you are correct saying that it is tactless combat running around just swinging. Those actions take a high amount of stamina and stamina runs out fast. The animations don't lock you in place which i think is dumb in my opinion becaues you just constantly click to finish you're three hit combo or whatever. From the videos i've seen, there are players constantly commincating and talking at such a fast pace, the battles are so chaotic that if you are able to organize a good 5-10 people, they can take out 15 or more easily. These are the games that are very appealing because you can see the sense of skill required to execute these group fights.
Consequently, I am also not shitting on tab targetting games either. I just don't agree with people when they say that this game is just a bunch of people swinging their swords around hoping to get a hit. Just watching a good archer kiting a warrior who is running zig zags and is still hitting 3/6 shots on him, it just shows this game takes a good amount of skill.
Because AV once againj dont release a feature complete game.
If you read the list of missing features inte other thread you will see AV's employee confirming that almost everything is not there at launch but is "planned for after launch".
Hve you played a game missing half of promised classes ?
Even if all the planned features is in it is very doubtfull if DF UW is a enjoyable game cause it doesn't offer content for other playstyles then you everyday griefer.
