Hey folks, been following this closely for ahile now. Once I heard a new Sandbox was n the way, I wanted to try it but at the same time not get burned. Eve Online has been the only Sandbox for me and have been playing that for almost 3 years now. I'm hoping AoW fills the need.
I just bought the Deluxe edition and plan on paying the 9$ a month or whatever it is for the VIP status. Any advice for a for a brand new player is welcome? I don't want to read the forum too much or do too much research because one thing I like about Sandboxes is learning everything on your own, makes it feel like more of an adventure.
Just thought I'd ask before I dive in.

There will be things going on all around you. Things you have no clue about. No one knows everything about AoW. Find your thing, is the best advice I can give. Figure out a few things to do, and roll with them. As you learn more "your thing" will expand.
Rock on, thanks. My kind of reply.

I played until second tier inner skill high level. My advice.....
1) Educate yourself about the game. It is difficult but read on the internet about classes and skills. Read a lot.
2) Get your experience points up past 500. Then if you leave for a long weekend, you're still gaining cultivation points. A great way to do this is spying. I would recommend that. You need to spy a lot anyway to get the last few 2nd inner skill levels.
3) TP when you have 100K cultivation points.
4) Level only your inner skill until tier 2 inner skill, level 10 at least (a good stopping point is tier 2, level 18 when you have to run a >4 hour dungeon)
5) Kidnap. A lot. But don't do it in Chengdu, that's just stupid. Pick targets in low population areas. And the higher level isn't nearly as important as the length of time since the player was last kidnapped (or logged out). It may also help to pick a class that doesn't get penalized for kidnapping (Guard, WV, or Tang).
6) Buy the two really cheap flying skills off the auction house. They don't cost much and you should have enough with VIP. The game is much more enjoyable with at least them. Don't spend more than a total of 10L for both skills.
7) Be prepared to either grind like crazy or spend some cash. I pvp a lot and wanted to do that and found myself quite disadvantaged by gear and skills that need to be purchased. Yes, you can scroll steal, but the success rate of actually stealing is very low and the odds on getting the 4-5 skills that make you OP are extremely low. So you either have to grind to get about 5-10Ding or you have to pay for it.
#7 was gamebreaking for me. Hence why I quit. Btw, nice sig.
I looked again at your sig. So you're still in SWTOR? I'd stick with that to be honest.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Age of Wushu and as you can see in my other post, played it to high level, but in the end, if you pvp, I can guarantee you will disadvantaged unless you
1) have amazing luck in script steal (like <1% luck)
2) grind like crazy to make enough gold to purchase the needed skills or dungeon grind (the one dungeon is 4 hours on a very good group). you have to grind that one a lot to get the flying skill drops
3) drop a bunch of cash in the cash shop. like well over $200.
Of course, fanboys will tell you different. And I listened to all of them. Until I got to the high level and then knew firsthand. Then the tone changed. Instead of people saying, well you're just not high enough level, they were saying, well you just need to dungeon grind like crazy.
I just don't have that kind of time. I have a life. I'd prefer to play a SWTOR where I can jump into a warzone and then get back to RL commitments after an hour or two. To each their own I guess.
Thanks for the Sig comment. Yeah I love SWTOR, I dont' plan on quitting. But like I've had Eve Online sitting on the side for a few hours of playing a week or less, Eve give you a sense of accomplishment that I haven't felt since EQ1 or WoW vanilla. SWTOR is just fun for me, no sense of accomplishment though. I'm hoping AoW can give me that, a game that if you put in 6 months, you have accomplished something that would take a new player 6 months to get to... or something along those lines.

What is the reason you wait for 100k cultivation points before doing TP?
You level through converting cultivation points towards leveling your skills. So first, you need enough cultivation points to convert to even make the TP worth the time to get in a group and do it. A 25 round TP with perfect execution will use up about 65000 cultivation points. A 10 rounder will do around 30000 cultivation points. But also for each round of TP you participate in you gain fatigue or something like that. You have 100 fatigue or whatever its called to use each day. After that, you cannot TP until the next day when it resets.
I would normally TP like 2 out of every 3 days. The one day I'd just let my cultivation points build up again. Some people want to be dicks and interrupt the TP sessions. For this reason, sometimes TP is hard to actually do. At least this was the case in Tangmen.
It's actually not that difficult to level. I got max tier 1 internal in about a week or 2 at max if I remember and then level 18 tier 2 in another two weeks.
You really don't have to much to lose since the game is F2P. However, I noticed you bought the Deluxe edition and you have probably already put your VIP towards Blue Dragon. That's cool, I just hope you know that VIP time is server bound so if you wanted to start fresh on an even foot with all the players when they open up their two other servers for launch on the 10th, that your VIP time can't be switched over. I don't think they have disclosed that information when you buy their packages yet. I'm sure that's just an oversight on Snail's part though. Good luck in the game. It's definitely not bad for what it is.
Oh, Kangbang posted some great PVP videos here in the forums that really showcase the beggars school. He makes fighting 1 vs 3 look easy. Also there are some other intro videos that help get you going with some basics like this one.

If you are buying gold, your doing something wrong, or "don't have the time."
Take your time and grow. Some people get in the game and say "I want that!" Not knowing the person who has that, has been playing for 5 months. Take your time and play the game as you learn everything will work itself out.
Exactly what is drawing me to this game, the sense of accomplishment.

that would mean 23 1/2 hours
Hey Bc I have a question. I joined the Begger sect and I am at the point where my next quest is to join some battleground or something akin to that. I've been stuck for 2 days now and I have no clue what to do from here, its like the tips/helper just quit working and now all it pops up is this huge page showing me tons of stuff but nothing pointing me to what to do next. Any help?
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
Yep, you can't do that one untl tomorrow You dont have to either. Hit "L" look at your storyline tab. You want those to say complete. Once the first chapet is done, you are free to never quest again!
OK thanks, nother quick question. I got the first part of the class quest done (learn Begger Chi) but everytime I talk to either of the next 2 class masters they dont give me a quest to learn the next moves?

you can learn them at internal 10. The begger master dude will send you to them after the story.
Can you be a bit more specific, im still a virgin noobie at this game.
Whats internal 10?

Each school has what's called :"internal skills" The begger one is called Liesure something. Open you skill book look at the first or second tab on the left. Select the liesure internal, then click cultivate. Once that reaches 10 and you've completed the 1st chapter, you'll be able to get the other two sets from your school.
Wow so complex but thanks again.

7 minute array quest? What else? Is there more Ares?!?!!?
This is the first MMO i've been interested in playing for a while. The experience system is quite refreshing although the bag space limit is a bit harsh.
This is the first martial arts mmorpg which doesn't really have "When I am lvl 35 I will have that guys armour and have these skills" The freedom to build your personal favourite skill set is nice.
I don't even mind doing side quests. Early kill quests are like kill 1 or 2 which is nice.
The extra gossip quests are a cool way of accquiring quests which feels a little similar to skyrim.
There are some really good ideas here but the limits seem a tiny bit harsh. Will have to see on launch.
