I was wondering if the company is putting in some money to advertise the kickstarter through ads on gaming sites, because I have the feeling many players are not aware of it.
I base this on the small amount of backers (already mentioned by Mark) and the very high average pledge per backer (>150$). The lower rewards tiers (as the 25$ one) are hardly sold, while it's a pretty good deal if you are not interested in early beta/alpha access.
This basically means that the people that are backing the game are very dedicated fans/supporters, and most of them probably with a DOAC background.
It might also be related to the amazon payment option that only supports credit cards. The younger audience has no access to this. I for example was almost backing out because paypal was not supported. Maybe there are some tricks to do this, but people back off if its not easy.
So why do you guys think they are hardly selling the 25$ offer?

That's a good observation.
I don't see alternatives for the credit card issue, though. There is a FAQ question about "why no PayPal" and they cited that PayPal has no "deferred charge" capability, so they would charge $ immediately, unlike kickstarter which charges only if the project is funded. So, the only option is KS/Amazon.
Not sure if Amazon can rig something through PayPal (deferred by Amazon, but using PayPal's charging mechanism). I doubt it since IIRC they are competitors, but you never know.
I don't think I'v seen any KS advertise it self, it's supposed to be funded by crowd funding and not waste money on advertising.
The Founders of each project of course use whatever contacts they have to get into the news feeds of related sites but i don't think they BUY anything.

Out of Shroud of the Avatar's $2 million total, only $125k came from their website. Alternate payments isn't going to push this forward.

Keep it simple
Because people want to play as soon as possible. Beta 3 will start 13 months after the alpha. It feels more like a slap in the face instead of a reward.
I personally think the $30 tier's extra items are worth the extra $5.
I also think most want alpha or beta 1. IT won't be for most and can also bumped down to alpha if they aren't testing enough or testing what needs to be tested, so more of a risk than alpha and after.

125k is not a small amount for implementing a couple of payment api's

LOL at this thread... and particularly the posters who have the CU/Kickstarter sigs... where did you get those guys?
Make them yourselves?

Note the words "client" and also the release date. You are part of a planned viral marketing campaign.
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
It is sad. Either they are part of it or they are duped into being part of the campaign. It would be fine, IF they actually some of the game finished - but pushing vapour ware is sad.
One has to wonder how many threads we are going to get to point us to the kickstarter campain. There are already like 5 or 6 threads about kickstarter on this site alone. It is as if they are begging for money.
I'm not sure there is anything too unexpected here. I mean, they posted about CF at http://camelotunchained.com/en/curious/.
Otherwise, Mark has stated he was getting advise on the Kickstarter campaign and, as with any new game, I'd expect the devs/publishers plan to leverage viral marketing. Now, whether they do so successfully or not is another story, but I can't imagine yesterday's "word of mouth advertising"/today's "viral marketing" is something they would not encourage.
Otherwise, it looks like CF is helping with traditional advertising efforts and similar things they did for SoTA. 'Viral marketing' is one bullet point, though I could see an argument that social media bullet points could count to, but I don't see it as a dirty word. If you have an enthusiastic fanbase, let them participate in the promotion if they are willing.
I'm not trying to come across as a CU-apologist, but just stating how I see the info you posted. If I should be outraged in some capacity, just let me know why.

No, you shouldn't be outraged at all.
Part of my (obviously badly stated) point was that they did clearly explain the CF Publishing partnership on their site.
So, you would think that backers of the project would know of this link?
I mean, when I first heard about the upcoming Kickstarter I did my research. Visited the CSE site, read the dev blogs, looked at the information that was available on the project and followed the links.
Based on that I made a decision whether I would back the project or not? (In my case - not)
But I had read the information out there. So, it surprises me when people who are apparently backing this project don't know. Particularly since there is really not a lot of (substantial) info out there anyway?

A slap in the face? What?
My mistake. I had read "LOL at this thread" and inferred the tone of the remaining post based on how I read that.
I'll agree, for Kickstarter projects in general, there seem to be no shortage of people throwing money into the pot without doing (what I would consider) adequate research. Just anecdotally, it seems like Kickstarter projects become more about a persons desires and assumptions and less about the actual project.
I do applaud the CSE team for being pretty involved in various communities and making the effort to answer questions as they come up. They are coming off as this being a "passion project" as opposed to any sort of 'money grab'. But hey, I misinterpreted your post previously, so maybe I'm not such a good judge after all. :P
