What crafting mats do you think there will be, and how do you think we will gather them?
It also got me thinking, because if you have to kill any mobs/npcs for crafting mats, isn't that PVE? also wouldn't that be grinding? as in the more/faster/longer you kill them, the more crafting mats you get, and the more gear you can craft? That applies more to leather I think, but what about others like metal. Do you have to fight your way THROUGH any npcs to get to it?
Just has me wondering. I still like the idea, just more salivating for more info.
-metal - this is usually the easy one. mineral nodes around the world, usually with a stronger concentration in caves/dungeons underground
-wood - wood nodes? as in special trees for farming kind of like in gw2? or do you have to kill some "tree mobs"
-leather - farm creatures for leather? how else could you get leather besides killing? hunting/tracking/trapping?
-other mats (mmo's have various others, like gems, magical essence, etc...)
Oh also, should only crafter classes be allowed to gather? or everyone?
I do like the idea of making more valuable/sought after crafting mats in more dangerous/contested areas.
Insert other thoughts about crafting mats / gathering here.

I'm pretty sure that player constructed mines are definitely "in" at this point (though that may be a stretch goal that I've just misread).
Now, whether they're built on randomly spawned resource fields (ala SWG) or built as static add-ons to existing fortresses/settlements is something we don't know yet.
Other resources like wood could be handled in the same way, but food (if it's included) will probably be generated via the static add-on route. (Hey, sheep stealing has a long and honored history among my clan... just so ya know!)
I would love to se them make the crafters able to build mines, farms and mills at player created camps, and hire some NPC’s on a payroll to harvest the minerals or whatever out on specific area, which can have fx an Iron ore, a birch forest or a grassland for animals. Players would be able to get better quality stuff if they did the job themselves instead of the NPC’s. Or you could just raid the camp and get the minerals that way.
I like the idea of resource camps too, but it would be tricky to implement correctly, especially with the RVR componenet thrown in. I'm thinking like mining in EVE, where someone could kill you and talk all your ore.
Lumber mill / logging operation
Mine with actual mine carts being used/etc...
Farm with real livestock / crops

Yep. Since there are few 'safe zones', it's all vulnerable to raiders. So if your realm wants good gear, defense of resources is a must.
Much better game than "capture the flag".

You could do that without water too.
Maybe crafters can build roads anywhere, and move goods on them faster from place to place, but you risk ambush on well known roads/routes?
Maybe enemies could even set up a roadblock with destroyable sandbags/barriers, and wait for some people transporting goods to ambush haha.
