The core should still be about RVR based PVP fighting.. not The Depths imo. Just remember 5M is still a pretty small budget for an MMO of the scale they are wanting.
I did love DF when it first came out in DAOC. It was a huge help getting my first character to level 50 and I had several others that dinged 50 in there too. Plus of course it was just a lot of fun to rush in there and clear out the enemy realm or to wait for them when they took it and try to survive as long as you could.
I just have a hard time seeing how it will work as well as it did in DAOC without xp, seals, and loot drops. Will players really be motivated to gain control of the Depths to access some mines and forges? Will CSE have to make the stuff you can craft inside the Depth way more powerful than standard crafted gear which will basically make it required in templates? It's kind of amusing seeing how often Mark emphasizes that CU isn't DAOC 2.0 that he would create a version of one of DAOC's signature features, DF. I hope it turns out as well as DF did.
I guess it's all kind of a moot point at this stage of the Kickstarter anyway. We need to get to $2 million first to fund the game and then to whatever the level ($2.25 million?) is that gets the 3 new races and classes which I'm looking forward to as well (archer yay!).
Well, I guess that if we don't reach this stretch goal but we get the 2 millions, we'll see it anyway. Probably not at launch, but likely in an expansion.

Seals, loot=resources best items in game.
xp will come when you either push inside or defend
Hey guys !!! I'm a rabid old DAoC player who still misses it every day, so I am really excited about CU. I have already made my Kickstarter donation (or w/e you call it), and look forward to every daily update in my email. In today's update, Mark mentioned "stretch goals". Being a total Kickstarter noob, I have no idea what is meant by this. Can someone bring me up to speed please?
Thanks in advance!!!!
Hi, the stretch goals are there in case we get past the $2 million dollar goal. At $2 million, the project will go forward. If funding goes above the $2 million and meets the next mark (I don't think this amount has been released yet to the public), the additional funding will go towards the new classes/races described in stretch goal 1. If they reach the second goal in funding they will make the Depths (the RVR dungeon). Hope that helps.
So I'm guessing that archers being a stretch goal means the physics they had when DAoC went live cost extra to add to the game, otherwise the first goal $ can't be too much above the $2mil. But the Depths, that's going to be a ton of work to lay out and plan and balance. I bet that requires $3mil minimum. I'll be buying addons if we get to $2 mil with any time to go, but I'm waiting for that, 'cause I want these two stretch goals almost as much as the game itself.
Maybe 18 months after it funds, if we fail to make the stretch goals, we can convince MJ to have another kickstarter to fund these stretch goals as the first expansion. Then I can buy my face and my voice as one of the bosses I'll be playing to smack down the other realms!
Let's not forget our foreign friends who are salivating at the chance to donate via PayPal because they do not have credit cards to use on Kickstarter.
When we get this thing funded, there will be a flood of PayPal dollars that will more than help with the Stretch goals

How they gonna help with stretch goals if they don't have a credit card?

I really couldn't think of a better stretch goal. Every DAoC fan is itching for the chance to explore a new DF inspired dungeon. This will hopefully motivate some more funding.
Very excited to see how the dungeon pans out. Can't wait for more visuals to detail the 'horror' inspired environment.

The great thing is that crafters can jump into a NPC and fight the enemy pretty much when ever they want.
You stay sassy!

Well put man. Very nice to see someone with balls these days, and creative ones at that

This does make me even more curious though where currency will come from in the game?
Pure combat people will need a way to earn all that currency to pay crafters for stuff.
Will it be RVR quests?
Or more like WAR PQ's / GW2 events where just being in the area something significant happens earns you xp or money?
or maybe it's from killing other players, and players drop a static amount of money regardless of how much that player actually has?
I dunno, I'd be curious on MJ/CSE's thoughts on currency in the game and how its generated.
or maybe EVERYONE can harvest resources, so you pay for everything with resources? haha I doubt that, but who knows.

Paypal which accept other things then CC
Really nice video. Looks like you can play a crafter, and then when you want to get your smack going, go play the dungeon mobs.
I like how the depths change and aren't just a static design.
omg crafters can build bridges? I never even though of that LMAO.
imagine as a trap for the enemy realm, making a bridge that leads to a death zone of traps and waiting players and whatnot
the enemy will want to use the bridge because it leads to somewhere they need to go haha
