I have a custom desktop that I have hooked up directly to into my router via ethernet, and for some reason it just dropped internet connection out of the blue yesterday. I was playing video games when I got disconnected and I haven't been able to get it fixed. I've unplugged the router and modem several times trying to reset both of them. When diagnosed by windows it says my modem or router is unavailable. In the network and sharing window it says my PC has limited connectivity to an unidentified network. It also says the connection is a local area connection. I have a Linksys router, and Comcast cable modem. Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is becoming very irritating because I want to play video games! Thank you for your help.
Here's what the network and sharing center looks like now:

A lot of things can happen,NIC card might have failed, usually have 2,not likely though.
Your internet provider might be down or have a bad link from an accident or whatever.
Did you do anything recently like fiddle with security setting on your Router, via that internet login? Most people setup a security password and stuff so others can't login to your net and steal your bandwidth.
I am guessing you fiddled with a setting somewhere becuase it looks like your network "Hamachi" is there and it finds it .
I used to have a problem where my provider would shuittle my net right down to almost nothing when i went over my limit, however i think that was agaisnt the law becuase when i questioned them on it,they act all quiet ,like it never happened.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
The only thing that I was doing at the time of it turning itself off was playing League of Legends and downloading a torrent. I immediately assumed that the torrent had given me a virus or something, but I scanned my computer and saw nothing.
It's odd because I can still access the internet on other computers throughout the house via a wireless connection, but the desktop is connected through an ethernet and won't connect. I don't think it's the ethernet itself because I switched cables and it still gave me the same problem. When I take my laptop and plug it directly into the router with an ethernet I also cannot connect to the internet. I think it may be something with the router?
remove/disconnect from undentified network connection
EDIT: I missed your second post. Still you shouldn't have 2 networks listed in your N&SC, so did you happen to set up port forwarding or DMZ to improve your torrent downloads?

Happens to me on work all the time.
Only cure is deinstalling network card driver and letting it reinstall itself after reboot
How do I do this?
Edit: I figured it out, but it hasn't done anything for me. It's now saying my PC is Limited Connectivity to the unidentified network.
I ddon't think I did anything to improve torrent downloads. These two connections have been here for as long as I can remeber
having dual networks is most likely a problem unless the network specifically requires it. For example, if you have 2 networks within an office and need to access shared resources from one network while accessing the internet through another network. However, neither of those networks would come up as an unknown network.
No matter what, an unknown network is doing you no favors.
You can also try disconnecting from both and restarting the computer.
You can try uninstalling and reinstalling your network adapter (or simply remove if from your device manager and reboot)

I disabled the second one, and uninstalled the drivers for the Hamachi program, however it hasn't done anything. I even uninstalled the drivers for the network card on my mobo and restarted the system to let it reinstall, but still nothing. There is however a single connection in the network and sharing center
Yeah, I had this problem on my moms computer, it was very wierd, the computer would say the network was good and working, but i tried a few different browsers, but nothing would connect, I tried to disable/enable things, use my phone as a hot spot, and many other things, but it was like a 8 year old computer that I gave her when I upgraded mine, so I just pronounced it dead.
Had a thread on here, she was looking at stuff to replace it, she eventually got talked into getting an ipad, which she doesn't know how to use too well. I have never used one, but I gotta go help her get some apps on there for things she wants to do sometime soon and help her figure it all out.
I hope my computer isn't dead then. It's not very old. I can't remember when I built it, but I feel like it wouldn't be dead by now.
It could be the router has conked out on you.Over the year's I've had 2 router's go out.The last one was about 6-8 month's ago and it gave me a message like the one you received.Could be what it is.

You think so? I can still connect wirelessly to it. Maybe I should just invest in an adapter?
Reading back through all your post's,I'd try hooking your pc ethernet cable to a different out on the router and see if that work's.

I've tried that as well. Still nothing
There's a lot of bad advice in this thread from people who don't know much about networking, but had a "solution" work for them. Unfortuantely, networks are a very complex thing and a lot of different issues can cause very similar symptoms.
You've done a lot so far and I'm not sure where you're at. Start at the basics, please. Go to Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center. On the left, click Change Adapter Settings. What do you see there? You should have a list of your network cards or wireless devices.
Assuming you have one that says "Local Area Connection", right-click and select properties. Uncheck TCP/IPv6 if it is checked, then select TCP/IPv4 and click properties. What do you see on that window? Close everything, accepting the IPv6 change, and report what you saw.
I'm going to stop there. Once we know more about your configuration and existence of a network card and drivers, we should be able to troubleshoot more.
Please don't switch to wireless as suggested by another post. It has many flaws which hinder online gaming. It is convenient for an office environment where you browse the internet and send files, but not for time-critical applications like gaming.
If your NIC ends up being bad, you can buy a cheap one and install it in your PCI slot if you have one free. Alternatively, they make USB NICs, but I have never tried to use one.
Ok so from what I've read you are able to get online wireless with any devicee in the home, but the pc wont connect wired from a router. Well If you have done the basic uninstall your nic and reboot, which it appears that you have, then there really are 2 options. Hook the ethernet directly from your pc to modem, reset the modem. Note if you have VoIP through your isp your modem may have a beattery that would need top be removed before it will poer off. Most isp require this to reset the arp table because only 1 public IP at a time in short. If it connects your router is screwed for its wired portion. If not, go but a $15 dollar nic and throw it in a pci slot and done.
Also, that looks like vista. This could also not be helping.
Edit: Spelling
I had a problem not long ago that had me stumped untilI found a guide I had to manually change my DNS config from automatic to one from the guide, took a while for the modem to kick back in but so far so good.

This is close to the guide I found should hopefully help.
If this were a dns issue, most likely his other devices on his home network could not get to any website by url, only ip.
Just a couple of quick notables from my exp:
More times than not when a NIC fails hardware wise they wont show up in windows at all, but this isn't always the case.
An easier way to check the wired ports on your router is to grab a different pc like a laptop if you have one handy and hook it into the port in your router that your pc that can't get online was in to see if it works wired with the same connection.
I had one instance with a vista machine that I swore a wireless nic was bad after troubleshooting, but I reinstalled the OS and it fixed it. May be worht a shot if you have yo shizz backed up.
Lastly if you do need a new nic, 14.99

I only read half the posts so if someone already covered some of this my bad, bored at work and trying to help.
Right now the properties for IPv4 have the "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server address automatically" checked.
What you are going to need to do is start with the basics.
1: Verify your cable;
2: If it does work with your notebook and your cable / router is functioning then;

This worked! It's a good temporary fix until I can go out and buy a wireless card for my desktop, or even a new router. I don't think it will cause too many problems for gaming considering my computer is right next to the router.
I did try the wire in my laptop yesterday and I wasn't able to connect to the internet. I'm assuming the router just decided to stop working for wired connections. It is incredibly old, we've had it since wireless was a crazy thing to have.
