For the Nth time. RF Online is NOT an L2 clone. It was open beta in KOREA mroe than a year before L2 came out. So quit those L2-clone bashings on RF. I even played the korean open beta 2 years ago.
As for the game, because of the hype, there are too much players. There is not enough noob area to level on; thus, too much kill stealing. I never liked futuristic-mech games anyway though ofcourse this game deserves a try.
As for the controls, very flexible, though I still like the keyboard mode hehe..
Good luck getting it to play. I registered and still can't log-in using the info I signed up with.
Registered again, and still can't... this was after I had to fight through their laggy website to try to register the first time.. Then it took several hours for it to finish patching after locking up several times.
I'd give you a review of the actual game, but I don't know what the actual game is like.. So far it gets a 0/5 from me due to not being able to even play.
RF Online is packed disgustingly full of kill-stealers. I don't even think I'm going to continue to play, due to the sheer volume of crap going on. The issue seems to be that the players outnumber the monsters 3 to 1...
If it weren't for the issue of overcrowding, PH's RF Online would actually be pretty great. The game is easy on the eyes, even when the graphics are turned all the way down (which you're going to want to do, or you'll be lagged to the iciest end of hell). The economy is good, even though it's only been on a few days. Fun combat.

Is the first letter of your account name capitalized?
Try lower-casing it; it worked for me.
--------------------------------------- Why are you reading this? This is crap compared to what's above.
It has a lot of good points, but I personally get disconnected or frozen frequently enough to make me not want to even bother.
It reminds me ALOT of Lineage 2, not that it is a clone, but they share alot of similarities.
It quite busy right now, and you get quests without speaking with an NPC, and you dont really have any idea where to go.
I am going to give it one last try when the US Open Beta begins, and then make my decision about P2P.
As much as I like the setting and lore, I have a feeling that it would be better off the play a much higher quality release, like Dark and Light or The Chronicle.
There have been a lot of comparisons between this game and Lineage 2. Frankly, I really don't see many similarities. However, since I played Lineage 2 in Open Beta, here is a comparison of the two games.
Graphics I believe that RF is light-years behind Lineage 2. I made a character which is similar to the light eleven in L2. At the highest graphical settings, the character in RF is nowhere near as crisp as the character in L2. The amor in RF seems to be "painted on" instead of worn. Furthermore, the ground textures in RF are the worst I have ever seen. Grass looks like a green blob. On the positive side, I think the monsters have a unique look to them, and the mage weapons are very nicely done. Overall, I would say the game more closely resembles World of Warcraft than Lineage 2.
Controls Point and click does not really bother me . . but you can use the keyboard if you want to. To attack you either double-left click your mouse or single click and hit the space-bar. Picking up drops is a pain in the neck using the mouse. Mobs drop multiple items, some of which are very small and difficult to click on . . often getting hidden beneath larger items. Since you have limited inventory space, you often will leave items lying on the ground (which is probably not good for lag), and trying to get the specific item you want is headache inducing. The biggest problem I have with the controls, however, is that you can not look "up". In other words, you can't get below a horizontal view from behind your character. When running up a ramp or a hill, you have no idea what is up there at all.
Sound There is a lot of sound in this game, much of which I find unnecessary and might contribute to lag. For instance, when a mob spawns it makes a laser-like noise (accompanied by a Star Trek teleoporter-like graphic). This just seems to add a lot of lag to the game (in addition to graphical glitches at the time they are done). The music in L2 is orchestrated, where the music in RF seems to be more of a Final Fantasy-ish MIDI file.
Gameplay Where you have to run and talk to NPC's to get quests in L2, the quests I have gotten in RF were given by a telepathic entity upon reaching the required level for the quests. Similar to L2, the quests in RF consist of "kill 100 of these" or "get 40 pieces of this". Nothing too original there. Everyone looks the same, as there is absolutely no choices for armor/weapons. When you get to level 2 you can wear this, when you get to level 5 you can wear that . . . the same as everyone else. In L2 at least you could choose between several armor and weapon choices . . even at lower levels. In RF you just use what you are allowed to use. I do like th "Force" system . . which is the way you acquire skills. While in L2 everyone gets the same skills as they level, in RF you might have 4 different players of the same class with totally different skills.
In conclusion I am interested to see what RF Online comes up with as far as adding features and fixes before the game goes live. At this point, as I stated earlier RF is light years behind Lineage 2 at this point in Open Beta. Lineage 2 made some major improvements before the game came out. However, when I played Lineage 2 open beta I saw a game with promise. With RF Online I see a game that has some deep, deep troubles.
Its L2 without the ganking when you start the game. Save yourself some worthless grinding and skip this one. I played the japanese beta and played the metal guys up until I could use the biggest gun..hehe. The pvp was lacking because all you do is push a button alot to do your attacks. So what I guess I'm saying is the combat sucks. If I was to say anything good is that its easy on the eyes. Other than that its the same old lvl grind for the same old pvp.
One thing tho, the animations for the high lvl weapons seem to be interesting, like my gun for example. I equip it and the thing like unfolds over my arm and braces against the ground it looked like, kinda cool but not worth the time I spent.

What are you on about mate? RF was in open beta a year before l2 came out? RF went into open beta mid august 2004 (dont know exact date) and by time time l2 was out and running strong.
i got admitted to the sneak peak about a week ago with high hopes as to how the game would play and from what i read i thought it would be really innovative, however, most people will be shocked to realize that this game has been released under another name in the US over 18 months ago, called Lineage 2.
I say this because, for the most part, it plays exactly like it. same basic scheme, same click to move, virutally the same over all controls, nearly an identical looks, npc (the 4 or 5 there are, even in the major cities) are exactly as they are in lineage. Now, all of these things by themselves isnt terribly disappointing, but the leveling is. It is nearly exactly how it is in L2. you get a weapon, you go smash a whole bunch of one thing until you level, then move on. camp after camp, more of the same. now, yes, i will admit that the RvRvR is pretty neat, but its less neat than DAoC's RvRvR which was much more complex, much more strategic and much more developed, PvP in general is less innovative than WoW since honor seems to be a useless statistic as of now, and the quest system could be the worst ive ever seen. All it is is a simple kill task given by an npc into your brain (like i said, the only npcs that really exist are the vendor ones, so maybe 5 in a city) who tells you to kill X amount of X, only, in reality, you are already going to kill X amount of X because that specific camp is the only means to level. the game is very linear on camps.
as far as i could tell the guild system exists for little more than a chat channel as there are no castles to take (DAoC, L2) and there are no high level instances to run (WoW, FFXI). PvP for anything other than mine control is pointless since the honor ranking has no value, ie. it yields no rewards, and thus renders PvP as nothing but a grief fest.
so really, this has been my opinion of the game, if you like it thats great, and feel free to post here so people can get a more balanced opinion. personally, i thought it looked like L2, played like L2, without a lot of the elements than made L2 good (there were a lot of things that made L2 bad however). and the RvRvR that they are advertising is far more dumbed down and extremely less innovative than the RvRvR that DAoC produced and refined over the last couple of years (and before you gripe about the fact that RF hasnt been out for a couple years, it has been out in korea for nearly 2 i believe).
So really, what it is, is a mishmash of features you can find in other games that doesnt improve on anything...
I'd like to correct one thing about picking up drops, you can either push X or space and it'll automatically pick them up for you.
Now the Phillipines just opened another server, and there is no longer any lag at all. It never even lagged when it had one server if you got past the big crowd and into the 20's. Unfortunately, they have now blocked off I think it was six countries because of CCR International terms or something, two of them were the United States and UK.
Quote: "Please be informed that due to an unavoidable change in our service agreement with our primary telco provider, all players of pRO, OZ World, ROSE, and RF online and all other games serviced by Level Up! now goes through the domestic network. Players connecting through the international gateway will no longer be able to play the game. This will impact international players, as well as some domestic players using ISPs that are not configured properly to connect to the Level Up! game servers."
well LOG pretty much blocked every country except .ph and .hk , since almost every country is routed through .us

They already found a solution actually. Check this thread for more info.
Played this game for a couple of hours way 2 much people ect..not worth wasting time to lvl when theres like 10 people ksing you...im gonna stick with silkroad online best part of it its free my guess there going to charge 10$ for that
Also experienced lots of KSing... But the server was flooded, it wouldn't have been different for most other mmorpgs I guess. Solely one server just wasn't enough for a worldwide beta. Also, the higher you got, the less KSing there was. Have to agree though that the system itself actually invites potential KSer to do so...
Regarding foreign IPs which have been IP-blocked although their nation isn't on the list:
I have already posted a link which shows an instruction how to get unblocked. However, there are a few things to add, so I will write down a more detailed one...
- make a screenshot (print key), paste into a graphic program, but save as jpg (not JPG in capital letters as your mspaint does. They won't accept your pic if the ending is written in capital letters),
- dos prompt again, this time type "ipconfig/all",
- same as before, screenshot, save as jpg (you could also just write down your IP and send it instead of making a pic, should be accepted too),
- go to this site, create a ticket, send both pics, and wait to get unblocked...
When I finally got it to work (before they banned US), I'll admit.. it was actually kinda fun. Not something I'd play on a permanent basis, but I did have some fun in it.
I am curious what made them determine what coutries to ban the ip's from. Do you think possibly they have picked the countries with the most players accessing the game at all?
Well i will keep stiff upper lip (British) and go back to playing realms of albatross damn them.
some territories have contractual or lawful agreements to only offer internet connections from certain locations. for example, it is the law in korea that they not allow connections to korean based servers from outside korea. thats why you cant play l2 on korean servers. it looks like ph has similar laws.

is rf online point and click movement ?
and if so does it have an alternative method using arrow keys/ wasd ?
You can choose between mouse or keyboard mode. Mouse = point-click, Keyboard = wasd

These are the countries whose access to the game will blocked.
