when is there a guarantee ever? how many games have you bought because others said it was AMAZING but you thought it was crap.. happens all the time
I think that's a cop out. How many MMO games turned out "AWESOME" so far through kickstarter? Look what happened with Greedmonger so far... that's gonna tank, people threw money at it and look what ya got. If game companies want to make money then they need to fund it themselves and earn our dollar. They need to prove themselves to us especially in this declining MMO market. It's like giving someone thousands of dollars before they paint your house. You don't know if they will do a good job... or if they will leave you high and dry. I wait till the house is painted and I am assured they did a good job before I pay them... and give them a tip for their hard earned work. They need to work hard to earn our money, earn our time, earn our devotion to their MMO. I want a finished product and a quality game before I threw my money at it. And when I do and if the the game does suck, at least I know I researched the game before I bought it and knew what I was getting into... Games will fall even deeper into the dumpster if this continues.

If the project you’re backing is successfully funded, your card will be charged when the project reaches its funding deadline. If the project does not reach its funding goal, your card is never charged. That's why we call them pledges.
You really should have just stopped this post right here. Up until now all you did was offer some education. I don't know if it was needed or not but it's good to put the info out there.
A lot of people still seem to not understand this. Knowing this, why not pay $25 to receive the game, a free month, and access to the beta (if the kickstarter funds) if you are even somewhat interested in seeing the game?
This (as it has been pointed out a few times) is a rather pathetic attempt at trying to get people to fund CU. You should have just left it alone.

I know $25 can be a lot of money for some people for something that will take 3-4 years to produce, that's the way life is. I was just trying to educate people because I am sick of both backers and non-backers thinking that CU is taking donations.
Did we really need another thread devoted to begging for people to pledge to CU and trying to guilt and insult those that don't want to?
Agreed. Sounds like a guilt trip. Used car salesman? My mother and her guilt trips? lol If you want to pledge.... great, I hope CU turns out good. Please don't beg for help.

Because the project might fund and then i'll be charged.
I myself as a gammer, think it is sickening to be asking people to fund a game when there dollers could all be going twords causes like actually HELPING people with real life problems. Am i taking crazy pills? People would fund a game so others could potentially become rich off it??? WTF is this world coming too. I work in a field where there are children who can not cloth themselfs or feed themselfs but here it is in black and white. A game company asking for donations to make there game?!
Seriously? I will NEVER play a game like this, mark or mike or whatever your name is, Get a grip on yourself. And any of you pledging money to a game developer to make a game because they can not get the funding themself i do not know what to tell you as human beings.....
Whoa. The view must be nice from up there on the moral high ground. I want to try too
If that is how you think about the world, how can live with yourself when you call yourself a gamer? Don't you know that the money you spent buying games could be donated to clothe or feed said children? Or if you never spent a dime on games, the time you spent gaming could be spent volunteering (even more) instead?? Get a grip on yourself.

haha, ya that's exactly what I thought when I read his post too. Only finished games are more important than starving naked babies!
I do kind of get where he is coming from though. Since this is basically a "fundraiser" it seems a bit off that someone would donate thousands of dollars to a fundraiser for a video game rather than say, a fundraiser for the SPCA or a battered women shelter.

how is it a cop out.. what did the swtor guys prove to me in the MMO world that would warrant me to buy that game? nothing they never made a MMO before and just went off it being bioware + star wars and their singple player expereince.. Poeple pay for renovation jobs to houses all the time before the work is done.. most require upfront money to pay for the materials anyway.. poiints is their really isn't much of a difference when it comes to getting screwed over by a video game.. at least with KS you have a "chance" to help shape and game form its inception if its a game like CU.. many games come ot KS with already finished or almost finished games and just need a couple bucks to finish up the project. CU is not like this and is a game being designed by a MMO/online game veteran made for people tired of the same old same old it seems.. After watching all his latest interviews I have no problems backing this project and seeing it through. KS is way to new to claim it won't produce quality games..it honestly has not been around long enough for even an average mmo to get completed...If star citizen, the repopulation, pathfinder, and this one if it funds fail then you may have a point but that has still yet to be determined

at the end of the day its up to the person if they want to back a game on kickstarter or not..
myself i really like what the guy is saying and i know i wont miss $50.. and if in 3 years time or wahtever we do get the game he is talking about i will be very happy.. if we dont then wow i lost $50.. i spend more than that gonig out on a friday night and getting pissed..
Myself I think Kickstarter is probally the best thnig to happen to PC gaming for a very long time.. it allows devs to self fund games they want to make and games that we would never see coming from AAA publishers because all they think about are WOW clones and COD clones because millions of people keep buying them for some reason.. and millinos of people buying games = big $$$..
So now with kicstarter we are going to see some different types of games getting released, not just MMOs but lots of different games that we might never have got to play..
So for me kickstarter is a great thing but it does not mean i back everything.. i only back things I would actually want to play.

I agree. Unfortunately, there will be those out there that take advantage of KS and misuse it, but generally speaking I think it has the potential to allow for niche games to be created. It can also used by developers and even gamers to see if their really is a customer base for the genre of game they want see created and developed.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Good point. I've been surprised how many people I've come across that really thought if they pledged and it didn't hit goal, they'd still lose their money.
good idea to raise awareness on that, because I didn't know that either before this project. I, like many others, had never used kick starter before cu
Also dang, people act like $25 is a kidney or something. I spend twice that going to eat with my fiancé several times a week. What is 25 divided over a 3 year dev cycle? Little more than $8 a year?
If you support this game and can't afford that, you prolly shouldn't be playin games anyway lol.
the other people that wouldn't play this even if it were free, thanks for constantly increasing awareness of camelot unchained all the time by constantly bumping cu threads :-)
if not for you guys, we wouldn't be near 65% funded with over two weeks to go, and I think 8 k backers now.
your help with raising public awareness has been truly instrumental to making this happen :-)
Not really the point. If I walked up to your door and said I had an idea for something awesome just give me 50 bucks and in 3 yrs I will bring it to you....would you do it? Did not think so.
thats got to be one of the worst analogies I have seen on these forums
Why is that? His analogy is spot on...
"The King and the Pawn return to the same box at the end of the game"
I personally hate all this kickstarter shit. I think it is ridiculas that not only do we buy thier games, pay monthly fees, and now help fund thier development? What is this industry coming too.

I think the saying about funding in the gaming world goes something like: "Everybody have great ideas. Show me a working prototype and we can talk."

This is a REALLY simple answer and unfortunetly it is going to be an embarassing 1 for you.
Because a funded game =/= a released game. THOUSANDS of games that reached their initial funding marks have died in the developmental stage.
Anyone around the age of 30 or more, who has followed the MMO industry for a while, knows just how many big name, well funded games died in development for multiple other reasons aside from initial funding. The list is as big if not bigger than the list of games that have released. So paying for hype and ideas is risky, I wont discourage it because people who have the money and want to do this have every right. But, those who think this is a safe investment need to look at the history of this genre. It is riddled with hyped titles that were mismanaged somehow and ended up in the trash bin.

yeah your right.. i guess like any system there will be bad apples that try to take advantage..
It definitely seems like it's gonna take a miracle to get this game funded in 13 days. I might go ahead and pledge that $25 or so, though, at the very least.

yes because some random nobody going door to door is the same as a 20+ year developer putting up a KS doing tons of interviews and putting out all sorts of information on the projected project is exactly the same thing ::rolls eyes::
