I was contemplating if I should be getting this game or not but before I decide I looked at some vids on You Tube and I found a pretty good one which is only a couple of weeks old:

Basically his main view is that the concept of the game is pretty cool. Sandbox, open world PvP etc but the game is simply just too outdated, like something released 5 years ago. Gfx, sound and the general feel of it is just too old.
And stupid things like having to spend several minutes chopping wood or other harvesting actions. How is that any fun? How is that even playing a game, staring at your screen for 5 minutes while your character chops wood?
Sorry, not convinced.

Yeah, because the instant gratification genre is clearly not dull or anything.

Yeah that's crap as well but this is just boring. Stare at your screen for several minutes while you harvest; how is that fun on any level?
My gaming blog
These threads start to get repetitive.
Just like with Darkfall 1 tho they changed alot of things, Darkfall Unholy Wars is made for a small niche. The devs did not have an intent on creating a wow killed.
However this is a game you really need to expirience but be warned if you have some serious wood chopping to do (because the thing you want to do requires wood, you dont have to do it if you dont want it) 5 minutes of woodcutting gets you nothing:)
The gfx are quite nice, go watch some videos foccusing on the gfx themselves not some guy playing the game without having touched his video setting or someone doing some pvp that has more then likely turned off most things to make it easier.
Ask the millions of people who have played runescape over the ten years it has been around myself included...
I don't know how, but I had tons of fun with runscape doing mundane repetitive tasks where all i do is left click my mouse.
OP hope you find a game you like.
I love DF.
You obviously haven't played it recently.

Good or not, i will not buy a game that i allready bought just because they messed up the first time...plain and simple !
I just made my first R10 weapon ,which is quite bad,i harvested few hours and craftet other few hours for this but the thing is.
I'll give you my greataxe when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.
So, did ESO have a successful launch? Yes, yes it did.By Ryan Getchell on April 02, 2014.

But really all you saw was him disliking graphics and small GUI. Unless graphics are a massively important thing for you then he's really said nothing 'straight up honest' because he barely said anything at all.
EDIT:
Although I guess it made AV change the wood cutting starter quest. Once you've got three chopped now it automatically boosts you to 15. So it only takes a few minutes. After that you don't need to do it ever again if you don't want to.
The games insanely fun, the harvest/crafting and building of your character is worth it in the long run. the gratification is when you PvP.
And honestly every crafting system in every game is boring as hell. so this post is flawed.

Personally, I don't stare at the screen while I harvest. I watch a show or something while my character does the work. It only makes sense to have to invest some time and energy into harvesting and crafting though. I mean, what do you want, a button you press that spawns leet gear all around you? And another button that wins PvP for you?
I understand the idea that play should not feel like work. However, without investment there is no sense of acheivment either. I think DFUW has a good balance because, while you do have to work if you want to craft, etc, you don't have to do it- you can PvP and take it (if you are good enough).
I find this world immersive.
good enough for me but I am not significant.
I have to admit I love the devs. such a creative indie team with great concepts.
please try it out and support them.
He talked about more then graphics and small GUI. He talked about combat, character creation, sound effects and material gathering. From what I saw that game just looks horrible.
I dunno in 1.0 i use to love comming home after work, firing up darkfall, hitting a rock or tree while i tabbed out and browsed the web, keeping an ear open for a come hither or attack sounds.
Why did i like it? Well in 1.0 i got much needed hard stats for my efforts, the need for resources was limitless, as stuff could be lost, it broke in pve, or i spam crafted it to slowly skill one of my many crafting skills (most crafts had multiple passives related to crafting that skilled with each craft, on top of stats for that)
It was incredibly deep with progression. Doing one action could skill up multiple passives and your raw stats...so mundane stuff was worth while to do.
Of course given the need for games to dumb down, and due to AV's lack of interest in actively stopping cheaters...they got rid of this progression completely.
Vets didnt want people of different character skill (everything had to be skill bases so progression was bad) and to highlight this they made cheating seem like it was the only way to live in darkfall, years of ignoring this by AV made it true as you had to macro to even bother.
So now, i dont see the same interest in doing mundane stuff in darkfall...yeah you get prowress...but thats it...no depth really.
Its a shame, i wonder what happend to the first gen gamers, its sad progression is grind now which is evil and bad and has to be removed from the game. Theres still progression in UW its just not nearly as complicated, and you certainly dont get a feeling of achievement and character attachment that comes from progression legit over the course of two years.
The game is still good at what most play it for...clan seiges. They kind of cut out of the game everything else and certainly didnt improve the game with actual content beyond pvp, cheating and clan seiges.
I really believe at this point and everything ive seen between novembers launch and the real launch...this game is going to end up with just about the same community and population it ended with...AV chose to appeal to its small vet community, put the rest of the game on the back burner (which is why the game is launching with stuff missing btw, thank a vet in game for me) and completely ignored that more people might have played if this game was anything more than a pvp based clan seige game with full loot..it didnt evolve..it just cut out darkfalls depth and soul and focused on TPS combat and making it easier to find pvp.
Ill be back, loved 1.0 too much not to play darkfall, even the new version (which i dont think is bad btw, just a missed oppertunity) just right now im not in the mood for this type of game and its proving too difficult to get the game patched up and enter.
I don't know you, or your playstyle Pivot, but I'm gonna ask you a question that I think may explain that (because it does for me).
Do you approach MMOs as a "game" where "progression" is a key goal for you when ever you log in? Or, do you approach them like an on-going hobby, where it's more about participating in the activity itself?
I'm very much in the latter category. I've done my share of staring at the screen for long periods of time, doing things others would consider incredibly boring. And I had a good time.
Why? Not because I necessarily find the activity itself "thrilling".
It was because I was participating in a hobby I enjoy, and I found it relaxing to hang back and harvest wood, or craft stuff, or even just sit in town chatting. I could hang out, talk to friends, watch the general/local/global chat going on, chime in when I had something to offer.
To me, it's very much like someone who goes fishing with a friend every weekend. They spend all day there, and may hardly catch anything, or nothing at all. But that's okay. Because it's not really about "catching fish". It's just about spending time, relaxing and talking with a friend, throwing back a few beers, doing something you both enjoy.
That's how it is for me. Do you think that might be the case for you?
This guy keeps saying... 2003-2005... this is the game that came out in that era
and that's the first darkfall... definately better graphics... people get butt hurt when I defend this title or any game because I do so with logic and common sense and they rage at me because their arguments make no sense and are invalid based on exaggeration and complete fabrication of truth.
That video is a pointless and brief glimpse from a biased reviewer.
DFUW PvP is fast paced, skillful, and smooth.

Depends on what you meant by better graphics though. If you're going by aesthetics that is subjective so you can't really say better in that regards. If you mean say a higher poly count, yeah it looks like that I'll agree.
Worst part, is those trees don't even fall down or disappear. They do run out of wood though, so you have to run around trying 30 trees before you find one that isn't magically out of wood.
It's very archaic. I only spent the $20 on the pre-order. I don't regret it because I wanted to check it out. It's a hard game to even stomach though. Ultima Online has better animations and UI. This game really has nothing to offer besides concepts.
I agree, the game is unplayable.
