Outdated MMORPG...

Game of yesterwhatever...

Waaah, I have to chop wood for 5 minutes and what will I ever do if I can't have every skill and do every thing?

There have to be some of us left that played MUDs. I know we are few and far between, but there have to be a couple. There were shit MUDs, where dying meant nothing, and there were hardcore muds like Armageddon and Arctic that were just brutal and more fun than anything you can imagine. All the complaints I've read here so far make me hope this will be a return to brutality and not a walk in the f#cking Bambi woods.

You don't like to chop wood? Who does? Yeah, I've read like 3 of these chopping wood things and I just can't believe what I'm seeing. Chopping wood is a party? You know who the badass is? The guy who can chop wood and kick your @ss when you come and interrupt his woodchopping situation, that's who. It's no the guy with the fiery sword skin he paid $2 for on Guildwars 2, it's the character that's developed and can afford to spend some time chopping wood because you better be ready for some action if you step up and butt in on the woodcutting. He can take some time out to chop a couple pieces of wood if he feels like it because your whiny ass can't do anything about it. If wood is actually valuable, and you live in a world of swords, sorcery, and chaos, it CAN'T be easy to attain wealth.

Remember the days of Everquest, when you had to actually adventure to learn to cast a fireball? And if you did strike out and attain something it was, if not unique, something of an accomplishment? Will these newbs ever feel the awe of seeing someone walk into a town with a legendary weapon and actually being excited just to witness someone with a powerful character that has attained an elite rank in the gaming world they're spending untold hours in?

These pnssy ass motherfnckers are ruining the game world with their complaints and whining.

I feel the ardor of risk based gaming; you may though want to place that fire for another game rather then darkfall.

I don't know, point me in the right direction. Like I said, it's not the game itself that gives me hope, it's the complaints of the people who have witnessed it. If this game sucks, what doesn't?

More of what I have been talking about. Look at your  post. Posts like this are a big reason games like this do not thrive. Why would I want to play along side people like this? I will never understand why the "hardcore" PvP crowd insists on acting like asshats on forums and in game. And "newb", still using that gem...image

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Threshold, best RP MUD I played. Probly still up but I don't really play MUDs anymore. Tibia had apretty hardcore death system but wouldn't play that anymore either. Guess people got lazier as easier games came out.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

Preach on OP. I'm play a game that's the same way in this respect. Growing silkworms aint supposed be a party, but it sure is a nice change of pace.

    What game?

    Duris mud...

... wasn't my first mud, but it was my first PvP mud.

2 Factions (3 after a while) open world PvP. The Evil faction  "purged" new players with regularity. Only the smartest and most stubborn survived.

    Full loot.

    Raiding.

    Unique artifacts.

A lot of features that some of the fancy new "pretty" MMOs could take a lesson from.

Some of the most fun I've ever had in a PvP centric game (comparable to the/my first years of Asheron's Call / Darktide).

We need to start thinking of MMO's as we do music or literature or the movies. There is not one MMO or one game that will be universally satisfactory to everyone's taste. MMO's don't come in one genre just as books or music doesn't come in one genre. Change and innovation is a good thing in the MMO industry just as it is in literature and music, but every MMO doesn't need to push the envelope or be cutting edge to be "good" or fun. It just needs to be good. The same is true for music. The same is true for books or for movies. Music evolves. MMO's evolve. Storytelling evolves. And in doing so, it doesn't make obsolete or not enjoyable everything that's been done before.

i know where you coming from OP.

But the prob with DF:UW it is AV attempt to cater to the modern generation of whiney carebears.

DF original had a solid foundation to be that game who gives shit about graphics and all about gameplay. But instead to expand a complex sandbox content on that foundation they rebuilded it  with  shallow themepark content .

Tasos admitted that one reason for redoing DF was bad reviews and i just know 1 prominent bad review from a guy called Ed Zitron. Some hateworthy themepark guy who complained about:

The graphics, the GUI, lack of tutorial and safezones, combat being to complex for him..

Guess what has been reworked for DF:UW ?  Right..

The graphics, The GUI, safezones, combat...

You got the pattern ?  Unfortunately DF:UW isn't a game for vet expert player who enjoyes a good feature rich sandbox MMORPG, it is already dumbed down and infected with themepark ideas and try to cater to this crowd.

From a really bad company with low ethics on top which is anytime willingly to betray its community...
