G/day all.

I'm in a search for a new MMORPG and DnL looks very interesting.

I can't make my mind up as of yet as i have no clue what the game is about, i guess the only reason i am asking to get info on this game is the fact i don't know what it's about and that the graphics are really cool.

Most games that i have had a look at are all too colorful/ too cartoon like.

I'm 1 of many people that have just left SWG (Starwars Galaxies) in search of a new game to be entertained.

K, here are just the questions i can think of right now.....

1) What is the storyline of the game?

2) In SWG you could become a Jedi which once was way more powerful than any normal profession making you sort of god like, that all changed recently but is there anything like this in DnL?

3) Is there any species? again i don't know what the game is about so i dont know any background on whats happened so far.

4) How do you advance in the game? ont sure if anyone knows but it's worth  a try asking :)

I have no more questions yet but i'm sure the answers to these questions will just develop more questions for me :)

Thanks in advance.

If you glance at the official forums, you'll see it has attracted a lot of SWG "exiles", quite understandably. DnL seems to have a lot of interesting features that SWG promised but failed to deliver properly, like player owned cities (which became ghost towns in SWG).

    1) Check the official site. The Genesis of Ganareth is a fun read.
    2) There are two classes that will be available after completing an epic quest (barbarian and shaman). But I don't think they're planning to make them as unbalancing as Jedis were compared to other professions.
    3) Yup. Again, check the official site. Pretty much, the common races you see in every fantasy game, as well as lupins (cousins of gnomes) and fairies.

    thank u both.

It does seem to have a lot of simular features as SWG, this is my kind of game :)

Once i joined SWG just 4 days in i saw my first jedi and was like WOW, OMG a jedi!!! :P

Iwent straight into the holocron grind and as painful as it was i knew it would pay off which it did :)

I've always enjoyed games with a goal to get. Playing a game that is just pretty much in a pointless running around isn't what i have ever been interested in. This game though has very nice graphics, not so much far fetched which huge huge huge characters as i know of but thats why it's a fantasy game. I think i'm gonna be looking forward to this, just got to check out a few more things atm.

BTW 1 question again, is there crafting like SWG? Architect and such?

There's very few information on crafting available and it won't be initially available in Settlers of Ganareth but will be added later, so it'll take a while till we get a solid look at crafting. I don't think it'll be similar to SWG, but they've promised it won't be just a matter of combining items.

    A few basic info: http://www.stratics.com/content/portals/dnl/content/guides/crafting/introduction.php

deg's right- there's not much up about skill trees or much specific about crafting but from what the devs have said- crafting will be a HUGE part of DnL. Promising 42+ different crafting skills

The example they like to give is- to make a "perfect" item, say a sword, you must work with crafters lower in level than you, then combine their (hopefully "perfect") parts to create the item.  "But wait there's more" :P ...if you want to create, say, a sword that does ice or cold damage, crafters will have to assemble that final item in the middle of a blizzard in winter (there are seasons: mountains are covered with snow in the winter, and melts in the summer) AND if all the "constellations" (every player prays to a specific god) are in alignment too, then you have a chance to make a "legendary" weapon.

Crafting and the Explorer class are a couple of big reasons why DnL "could" be a real "next gen" mmo.  Explorers will gain xp just by... exploring.  They'll be able to make and sell maps, create "portals" in areas for quick transport, etc.

also check out the RvR stuff on the DnL FAQ.  You'll be able to place Fortresses in contested areas, and then get your guildies to be guardians of that fortress.  If anyone attacks, you can call your guildies to your side instantly and defend the attack.

Who knows if they'll deliver, but so far the devs seem hellbent on making the game innovative.  Imagine having to use a horse and cart to get your gathered ore from a mine, and hiring NPC's to help protect the shipment as you travel back to town with it.

And if you liked SWG b/c of the size of the game and the complexity- this stat should get your attention:SWG in terms of landmass (all worlds combined) 2000sqkm. DnL landmass: 40,000sqkm (twice the size of New Jersey, and less polluted ((I kid))

Awesome, if all what u just said there is true then this game must be a hit when it goes live.

Well... maybe only a hit with the adults, i think thats why SWG never hit over 1 mill customers is because it was to complicated for children uber the age of 8, Everything created needed components and such and children were like "whats a componant?" lol so thats no doubt why the have dumbed the game down for the console release.

A complicated game is what i've liked, you can never get bored as there is so much to do, i can't wait for this to be released.

Thanks again for the info on all of this.
