Yep, I finally did it. I bought WoW after doing the trial. I like it alot better now then I did in beta for some reason, perhaps because I found a more fun class and race. And with how much SOE has been making me insane with their continual changes I wanted something fresh.

Don't know how long I will stick with it but for now I am having fun. If anyone cares I am on Kirin Tor. Its the newest roleplay server. I have found that if you go to a roleplay server you don't really get roleplay, however you do get the normal community you would in most any other MMO's normal server. I do roleplay on it though.

I am mostly online with my dwarf, his name is Shorthand and I am in the Dark Hour guild.

Very cool Fadeus and I hope you enjoy your experience!
If you have any questions, please feel free to mail me here. I've mainly played a Hunter and a Druid, but I've also dabbled in the other classes.

Agreed, the RP servers have some of the best communities.

I am doing a hunter at the moment, that's my dwarf. He is also a skinner / leatherworker and I am already making my own armor to keep up with my level. I know with how fast you can level in WoW me being a measly level 15 off the 10 day trial isn't much but I didn't put a ton of time into it yet.

The game is VERY reminicent of EQ 1 pre-Kunark and I think thats why I love it. There is actually 2 questions I have. One I think I will need a screen cap to ask cause its a little doflicky on the experience bar that seeems to put itself at places randomly above my current experience but not necassarly right equal too it. I have no idea what it is and that drives me crazy.

The other is why do I get so many training points for my pets when I rarely get a new ability to train them?

    1. That doflicky is the indicator of how much rested xp you currently have saved. You'll notice that the experience bars will be colored blue until you've used up the rested xp, then it will turn purple. There are mods that will tell you how much rested xp you have in terms of numbers.

Edit: You gain rested xp every time you log off. The amount of rested xp is calculated by where your character is. You'll get more rested xp when you log in a town or city, and the most when you log in the inn you've made your home.

    2. The number of training points will eventually cap. Like your own talent points, you'll have the ability to respec your pet if needed. I've respec'd mine from mainly a tank to a dps dealer.

For your first character, I definately encourage taking some time with each quest and enjoying the expierence. You'll be better at your class too. If you ever get stuck on a quest, you can always use Thottbot.

Also, consider using some mods. I'm not a big fan of the compilations, such as Cosmos or Insomniax, but a few mods are definately helpful. The main mod I use with my Hunter is TrackerAssit. That mod allows you to see information about the mark when you click on the red blip on your mini-map. You can find various mods at Curse-Gaming.

So far I am trying to do each quest that the area offers as I move into there. I don't think I have missed too many so far. Between doing them and collecting skins for my crafting I am always killing something.

Ahhh ok, so thats what that doflicky is. Thanks!

Leatherworking is fine if you are the kind of person that enjoys making items.  If your just in it for the cash get Herbilsim or Mining instead.  Until you hit the high levels materials are worth more then the items made from them.  I personally love Herbalism and have made a buch of money selling herbs that I find in my travels.

Are you teaching your pet everything he can learn?  You need to get different pets and learn their skills in order to teach them to your pet.  Here is a good link showing you what your pet can learn.  For example my bear had Claw 1 when I trained him.  He will never get Claw 2 by himself, I need to find an animal with Claw 2, learn Claw 2 from it, then train my pet with it.  This should use up some points.

Wouldnt worry about having loads of pet points at the moment, as you will probably change pets and more abilities come available like armor/resistance etc. As said just enjoy the game, imo theres nothing more fun than when you just start playing a mmog, discovering new stuff etc

    Welcome to WoW, Fadeous.

Good choice on your hunter! I have several advice for you (I have a 45 hunter).
First of, choose your pet carefuly and try to stick with it to the end (becuase if u tame a new pet, that pet would have to get back a lot of skill points needed to train armor and stamina and other pet skills). I chose cats for PvP and Bears for PvE. I tamed Bjarn, a level 12 elite polar bear from dun morogh for his unique look and i tamed broken tooth a level 37 cat in Badlands (took me a week to find him becuase he is a rare elite).

I went completely into marksman talent tree, so im a killing machine, thats great for PvP and OK for PvE since a lot of times I take away agro from pet even if its using growl all the time.
I strongly suggest u to get Hunter specific mods (pet leash, ICU)

Leatherworking/skinning is fine but At level 40 hunters can wear Mail so you will stop being self sufficient regarding your armor. I would recommend taking Herbalism/Alchemy for potions (u will always have healing potions, instead of buying them, plus u can sell them and make a fair amount of profit at higher levels), or you can be an engineer (engineering does not generate any income, even at higher levels anything you make is pretty much usable by engineers only) - engineers are realy good at pvp, u can make bombs to do dmg and stun, make cool trinkets that shrink your enemies (or you if trinket malfunctions). Or you can be a smith, not a lot of profit in that either but at least u can make some weapons and at higher level u can make armor. However, usualy u can find better armor and weapons by hunting and completing quests. If you want to make lots of money, take 2 harvesting jobs (ex: herbalism and mining or skinning) and sell the resources.

Try not to go too fast, or ull end up 60 in a month and burn out since at 60 u will have to grind a lot in the instances for better gear. I personaly played WoW on and off since beta and my highest is 47, i have 4 active chars (3 retired) and Im having a blast!

Here are some of the mods I use as a hunter
U can get them at http://www.curse-gaming.com/
    Atlas
    Auctioneer
    CharactersViewer
    DiscordActionBars

    GFW_HuntersHelper
    GroupButtons
    HunterPetSkills
    LatencyDisplay

    sct
    SmartPet
    Swinger
    TechStats

Pet wise, there are differences between the pets now, and the website listed above is good for these abilities. With regards to training points afaik at lvl 60 if u have a pet since lvl 59 or even 60 as long as he is full loyalty you have same amount of points as someone whos had there pet since lvl 10, i had around 200 somin training points and got my pet when it was 59.

With regards to talents, as is said in most threads with regards to this, choose what suits you best. MM is generally classed as the PvE tree and BM is generally classed as PvP tree. A BM specced hunter is very powerful in PvP. Not the be all and end all but unlike some classes the hunter trees have some half decent end talents so it is worth going to the end of a tree, though i havent tried survival tree.

Tradeskill wise, pretty much all player made armor is a waste of time imo, there are exceptions if you get to the top of your profession with some nice purple recipes and good resistance gear which can be sold for quite a bit. I personally am Tribal LW/Skinner and hardly use it, due to being to lazy to go farm components. I have never used any of the items i can make as you can generally get just as good/better items from quests/auction. In the end it comes down to what you want from the tradeskill, whether it be the satisfaction of amking stuff or whether you are going to use it to make money. As said, if you are going to use it to make money prob best to have 2 harvesting skills(herb/mining/skinning). I would recommend also taking up all 3 2ndry professions(fishing/cooking/First aid) fishing and cooking can give you cheap food for pet and first aid is great for reducing downtime.
