CoV: Anything new?

TrebekTrebek Member Posts: 266

Ok, here's the deal: I played CoH when it first came out, for about a month. The grinding repetitiveness got to me, and i didnt see much in the way of content. It was the same missions (All the instances looked the same too) and it got old fast. So i played WoW. Been playing World of Warcraft for a year now, and im getting burnt out. Im thinking about checking out CoV, but i dont wanna buy the game and get burned for another $50.

So, has anything changed? Any new content? I know they added new classes, and PVP, but are all the instances still look the same? How is the PVP? Will i have to get to end level to PVP? Is the grind still horribly tedious and boring? How are the stealth classes?

nothing really has changed you still do the same repetitive mission only this time your a villain. There are some new powers but not enough to waste 50 or 60 bucks on so i'd recommend skipping it. then again thats just my 2 cents.

I've been playing CoH since launch and I'm really enjoying CoV, but if you found CoH boring after only a month I don't think you'll find the expansion much different. There are a variety of new missions and power sets as well as some interesting PvP, but the meat of the game is very similar to CoH.

Sounds like it just isn't your kind of game.

yeah the pvp sucks you go to a zone and everyone there is all the same lvl. it doesnt matter if you are 50th lvl hero you be the 25 lvl if thats what the zone is ment to be. noone plays to fight each other anyway. they just play to fight the game.

I ifind the PvP to be a refreshing change from my experiences in other games. Too often it wasn't a question of ability but one of gear and level. Making everyone the same level in the PvP zones helps keep things fair and balanced. A new PvP zone for the level 50 crowd is on the way.

The players in the PvP zones are pretty active PvPers for the most part. Each PvP zone has its own capture-the-flag sort of game to get involved in as well, so that PvP becomes an added risk while you try to complete other missions that will help your side or hurt the other, rather than an assortment of quick skirmishes.

Again, great game...but if you didn't ike the it the first time around I doubt it's for you.

The game is just as boring as CoH. I played CoH for a month, and I played CoV for a month. I love the character generation and the game mechanics, and I was bored to tears by the total lack of content.

After playing WoW, the primitive quest system of CoV will make you wince.

Thanks for the response Theo im insterested in a few things though.. How is the population in this game as far as PVP goes.  Meaning if I get this game will I be running around for hours at a time trying to find a fight? Or will there constantly be people like me out there trying to PVP. Also which sever is the PVP server.. I know when I played from Beta to about 2 months in Virtue was the RP server.. Which is the PVP server now and how just by guessing how many people do you think are on it?

There's no offical PvP server. PvP currently has 3 zones you can go to....Bloody Bay, Sirens Call, and Warburg.

I've found the PvP in Sirens Call and Warburg a bit more active then Bloody Bay. Warburg is a free for all. Bloody Bay and Sirens Call are both Hero vs. Villian.

One thing about PvP that many people get frustrated with. PvP shines when your in a group. Solo PvP gets very frustrating. The PvP is designed for groups vs groups. Solo, there will be always an inbalance.

your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't

Just to add to the information, there are also base raids against other player organisations.  From these you can steal items of power (permanent super group buffs).  Although to be honest I've yet hear of any taking place.  Simply due to the newness of CoV and the scale the bases need to be.   Although they are very expensive to build and maintain, so never know.

Or the fact that our supergroup still hasn't found that epic thing that enables raids.. nor have we raised enough scratch to get defenses... they sure did make bases pricey... we JUST got our medcenter!

You're doing a lot better than my SG then.  Bases could do with being cheaper, I feel.

As for the items of power, didn't they not just add a trial over thanksgiving that issues them?  Needed something like 8 room base, with a teleporter, computer and 6 x dimentional clamps before starting it.

    CoV is a rehashed CoH.

    - recycled power sets
    - improved graphics
    - same gameplay
    - modified skins

In my opinion, not really. Oh you need higher computer specs to play this
expansialone even though its the same game.

    Enjoy!

PvP is broken. i cant really say anything more.

And yet another PvP is broken inaccurate post, by yourself.  Been there, disccussed that as have others.  You're very welcome to an opinion that its not enjoyable (that's up to you), but broken it is not.

You missed off bases, crafting, new missions dynamics, newspaper missions, new mission tilesets, new costume options, new PvE zones (won't count the PvP ones, as available to heroes aswell) and that there are infact new powers sets (although excuding Master Minds and Dominators most are rehashed with the occational new power thrown in) and 6 new ATs (classes).   So there are infact plenty of new things   Gameplay hasn't changed, as you stated.  So anyone who didn't enjoy playing a hero, will in general not enjoy playing a villain.  Not sure what you mean by modified skins.

On the subject of graphics, CoV doesn't actually have a different engine from CoH since they are the same game, on the same server, etc.  The graphical detail between playing a heros or villain is actually idential, but they added more details into the CoV zones and missions.  So really you can't classify that as a difference or something new, unless you class it as improved artwork.  Yes the graphics engine changed, but was a general CoH i6 (i.e CoV) upgrade.

    About PvP...

Saddly PvP is not really optional, they reward it better than PvE.  The cheesy: "different zones argument" doesn't hold when zone A is better than zone B.  I am not even talking about the Item of Powers who shaft PvEers because I have to understand them before I say more, yet, it is a known fact that by PvPing you are better at PvE, which is unacceptable IMO.

CoV is the least bad MMORPG, playing a Mastermind is different and fun...kinda remind me the necromancer in Diablo.

Items of power when placed in bases give the entire SG buffs (eg. x% extra xp per mob, x% extra hp) when in SG mode.  No idea what % they go up to.  Ones in beta were something like 1%, although suspect they may have been the bottom end of what's available.

You don't really need them, but of course having them makes things a little easier so people will go after them.  Also they will be a "must have" for those heavy into PvP.  I also believe they are availble as rewards from certain PvE trials.  Pretty sure the trial they added for thanksgiving had one, although not 100% on that.

To add one negative statement to the PvP is that you still get debt when killed from a mob (not a player).  In SI this can result in reaching debt cap quite easily, if you die a lot.  As the PvP in that zone is geared towards assisting npc battles (i.e. fighing someone of the opposite fraction and a mob joins in, you'll get debt if you loose).  That should really be addressed.

Its not perfect and there are some issues, but no its not broken.  Broken by definition means its unplayable and/or unbalanced, which isn't the case.  Why don't you check out other people's posts, instead of reciting the same inaccuracy over and over again?  There have been entire threads on this and the general consensus has been balance is fine and you know that, because you've taken part in those threads.  You simply won't admit it, are ignoring it, or simply blinded to your own hatred of the game and company.   However, please at least do not come here misleading people asking genuine questions.
