People whining about the l2 grind are just not "though" enough for l2 and can stick to their worthless world of nothingcraft and everbore 2 but if your up for the challange go buy it and let the carebears whine.

I bought the game today! For 5pounds it was on sale... Anyways people are on about the grind I liked Lineage 1 and it was good... So the grind doesn't bother me... Okay all Lineae ][ Fans is it worth paying for the monthly fees! I will start playing it within a week when I find my mums credit card and get her details..

Damn,. I got my copy from game, and it was about £12, now they've lowered the price on the old box to £5. But what's with the nice white shiny new box? All it says extra is Chronicle 3- Rise of Darkness, which you get in the deluxe (which is the one they sell mostly now) box anyway.

Well, it really just depends on your taste. If you're not a tough competitor who can contribute alot of time into L2...forget it.
If you are patient enough to not let the grind bother you then it's actually ok. Because by the year's end, even if you play 2 hours a day 360days. You will get to about lvl 60 if you play your main most of the time.
The politics are the key to this game. After about lvl 40 is when decent clans recruit you. You can be recruited by hard-core clans when you're around 60.
Castle sieges, are actually better than most if not there are any to compare to the grandeur L2 offers.
Boss raids are extremely difficult. Don't compare boss raids to WoW. 40 in WoW, compared to 100+ and at times 500+ people in raids, takes organization for hours and Bosses tend to take hours to take down as well.
Economy is ridiculously difficult I'll admit that. However the grind is the just the different taste of gamers. Even if the game has so many haters there are 150k active users in L2, mostly in Bartz, Kain, and Teon I think.
In the end, if you're either not patient enough, or don't have the guts to play a game where lvling is worse than getting fired by your boss at work. Forget the game.
The end content is really what makes the game addicting. Which is the political aspect of the game. And most users in NA server of L2 are all veteran players. Out of 150k active users, I can guaratee that 120-30k of them are veterans players with at least lvl 50+ mains.
Most people who talk alot of crap about the game, without respecting the better contents of it, are just people who never experienced the end-content. They never bothered to get there because it was such a pain in the ass. And I as well admit it is a pain in the ass to lvl in L2.
The veteran players quitting...that usually occurs because people end up wasting all their adena from over-enchanting, and they wind up disgusted by the harsh enchanting penalites.

I really shouldn't have given my clan my stuff....

He hasn't played the game since he ever quit which was over a year ago when he played from beta to whenever he quit.
I get it if he just so disgustingly hates the game. Since he had such a bad experience from the OB to first few months of service. I thought the OB sucked ass as well...
People even made flash vids with that annoying Indian background music to show how badly you couldn't connect to the damn servers.

Basically every game has a "filter" that filters out people who can't handle it, games like WoW have a really low filter, everybody can get in. Games like L2 have a high filter, filters out all the (to me) lazy people, people who think they should just get everything handed to them, people who don't want to group, people who don't want to play hard.
That's the nice thing about the world we live in, we have menus, you can have salad, another person can have lo mein, and I can have steak.
The screenshots in L2 make me drool, it looks so good I want to play it right now, but I know its not the kind of game you just "dabble" in.
Besides, I'm spending all my free time in another hardcore game : Eve
I like the game concept but when you play for a while you realize something.. This is what i found out by playing:
* game economy i ruined.. you have to buy adena from ebay or whatever. it has become one with the game. * The game experience rate is very low.. it takes ages to reach any kind of high lvl.. think 1 year if you don't find a nice guild. * The game really gets fun first after lvl 40.. * PvP is extreme if you like PvP.. but for me, too extreme.. when i started my char and spawned there was a Gank guild ready to kill me.. so i had to wait like 6h before i could play the game.. * The gear is expencive, very expencive.. if you die by a mob you have a sertin chance to drop a random item on you.. like the very expencive new sword you bought or the armor.. you are kind of screwed if you don't have a generous guild mate or lots of adena.. the other option is to buy game money * drops are low, so don't expect to find a armor or weapon you could use.. if you find one it's only to sell because it's not for you.. maby someone 20 lvls under you

I logged in a week ago on a friends account with Lineage 2 just to check it out, I created a new character and the first thing I saw was people getting themselves killed by gaurds to delevel, ofcourse with silly names like lovegirl1180 or coolguy21732, who ofcourse where farmers.
Well if thats the first thing I see when I create a new character, thats enough to stop me from playing it, just like it did a year ago.
And dont go saying its not that bad, because it IS that bad.

No way dude...I got to lvl 69 with 2nd job change to Knight, and I made like 30+mil in equips in RO in the stupid 15day trial...not to mention I did quit because Unreal blew 5 f**king VVS Elemental Claymores, he was at least suppose to make me one...by his percentage ratio...I thought he was a pure forge...the Bastard.

Awful game. One of the reasons for the long grind is because L2 has no endgame content. The second you hit 60(the former cap), or now 75, you realize there is nothing else the game offers besides leveling.
There is a big reason L2 only has 8-9 semi populated servers in NA/Europe and thats because very few people play it. And why do very few people play it? Because its a bad game.
It may be a PvP game in title but thats where it ends. Most PvP fans want PvP with skill. In L2 1-2 lvls make all the difference. Not only is it incredibly level based but incredibly gear based as well.
Terrible community and the sieges are pointless. Not only that, you can only siege a castle every 2 weeks within a 2 hour window. That is something the devs failed to point out to the fans before they all bought the game.

I disagree considering I have beaten people more than 2 levels higher than me when I used to play. Levels don't matter, infact I even tried seeing a difference in stats and stuff between levels since I noticed not much difference and found that stats don't really go up except for hp and mp. Equipment like you said and skills are the greatest things that make a difference. Have you ever heard of a guild? Any level you are(even above 60 or below), there is always PvP action. I PvPed at level 1! I have also PvPed atleast every level. Inc case you haven't checked some Lineage 2 forums, it is full of PvP things so I don't know how you say it is only PvP game in title. No MMORPG except for UO has ever given me this thrill of PvP.
Only problem is the botters and adena farming but this is in every MMO. Go to certain sites that sell virtual items, you will see it for games like WoW and tons of others. This is a problem all over MMOs and will be like it for a VERY long time.
To some posters, please play this game now, I have seen TONS of improvements like more PvE content and PvP like Seven Signs, etc.

Just curious, have you played the game? Your population assessment is off. You make a judgement of endgame so I am assuming you have a caped out character?

Your assessment of this also seems off. Owning castle has an affect on the game world. I could explain but you should know if you played. As far as the community.........I don't think so. The kiddies in WOW are much worse then L2 IMHO. And before anyone goes into the entire "bot, gold farmer" thing its my opinion that WoW has far and away more gold farmers at this point.
The primary problem with L2 on these boards is people making judgements about it who either never played or haven't played since launch and are no longer familiar with the game.

Games that a ton more people enjoy on average than L2. That being said Im not really a fanboy of any although they each have their own pro's and con's.

L2 is good for a hack-n-slash grind.
here's a suggestion though...if you like korean mmorpgs, try SilkRoad. If you like it, you'll like Lineage.
