What do you thing was wrong with the KS campaign?

HokibukisaHokibukisa Member Posts: 185

I don't want to be negative nancy but I used FarSight and this KS has failed.

I love the idea of CU. I would play it.

However I am not surprised in the least that the KS failed.

I know this is a poll that leads the witness but internet polls suck. These are the most popular complaints I've seen about this game / KS.

Why this isn't beating-a-dead-horse thread? Cause many of us think the game concept is a good one that there is enough interest in. I mean hell its sort of like a high fantasy eve online so we know it could work, but why did the KS fail?

He misread what people liked about DAOC.

I wasen't there to get to 50 and RvR what he seemed to make unchained about.

I liked the Lore the Grind and the classes and combat aswell as the RVR.

He focused on the aspect i cared the least about, im probobly not the only one.

^^^ This.  There is already a perfectly good set of threads to discuss.

Also, it hasn't failed yet.  It has 4 days.  It could theoretically drum up the money if they could find 3000 backers to give $200 each.  Or 2400 lifetime warrior subs at $250 a piece.

The game concept was the major problem.

It's too soon for this which is not to say I haven't been thinking about the topic. I think the main problems (aside from just that Kickstarter is something new and not trusted in general) should it fail are:

    • Asked for too much as the actual goal. He should have asked for a lower goal and broken some of the core design into stretch goals.
    • Spent the entire Kickstarter talking about everything other than the core gameplay. Crafting, housing, ducks, building, mining, The Depths (a stretch goal), and tech demos have gotten endless updates. Even lore and stealth class mechanics have gotten updates. But as of this moment, there have still been no updates about the overall RvR system, classes, and RvR progression.
    • Residual distrust from TOA and WAR. Failing to lay out how RvR will play in CU has only made things worse. Many people simply do not trust Mark to make an enjoyable RvR game due to his past mistakes. He had a high burden of proof to clear to earn their donations. Instead of addressing those concerns head on with lots of RvR details, he's taken it for granted that people will trust him to make good RvR and all but ignored RvR during Kickstarter.

This thread is a retrospective from the perspective that it has already failed.

Right now we are sort of like WW2 japan after the first nuke dropped. It's not over yet! But it is.

Why it doesn't belong in one of the other 100 page KS threads, cause its a what went wrong thread. What to do better. A critique.

lower tiers needed to be way more appealing, we should have 3 times more backers in those areas

I think it will fund.  There's always a plan B.

Ken Fisher - Semi retired old fart Network Administrator, now working in Network Security.  I don't Forum PVP.  If you feel I've attacked you, it was probably by accident.  When I don't understand, I ask.  Such is not intended as criticism.

    Agree with above poster
Want to add that he has stated before that he has learned from his "mistakes" but I havnt heard once specifically what his thinks his mistakes are... For all we know what he thinks are mistakes most people don't?
With so little info posted about the combat and how it will play out on the small/medium/large scales... We have no clue if he's "learned from his mistakes"

    Ozek - DAOC
Niix - Other games that sucked

Whether or not it funds, it still raised more than the majority of game projects.  So really, the only 'problem' could end up being that they asked for a bit much.

    I vote none/other:

I don't prepurchase. Not anymore. Publish a game and it is likley I will buy it then. Pluss you need more than just a bunch of $1 a year subs to keep it afloat.

Tend to agree, in DAoC the whole RvR thing was really end game, but it wasnt the whole focus of the game, and many didnt even take part, so, yes you are not the only one, DAoC was already very much a niche game, by making a game that appealed to an even smaller subset was always going to be 'problematical' and was also why i had zero interest in this game, despite my being a 'fan' of DAoC in the past, i didnt really get involved in the RvR part of DAoC either.

    No tablet/ipad/android support.

the industry has to understand that the world is changing desktop/laptop only MMOs are not the future.

Look at the games that funded on KS, some of which went way over their goals and then come back and look at CU... all answers as to why it did not get off the ground shall be answered.
  • ArconaArcona Member UncommonPosts: 1,182

    Funded CU with $50

this gives full digital version of the game, and beta 1 access, if the game is good it's worth it, and if the game is bad it's worth it.

I might have founded 25$ but amazon.com wont take my EC-Card and I cba to get a debit or cc for kickstarter only. (not to mention no paypal, i know it would come later via the official homepage if it gets funded).

dont underestimate the last days of a kickstarter

Guild Wars 2 and Warhammer Online have tried to copy some of the RvR that DAOC did 10 years ago, without much luck.

I'm pretty sure MJ has seen what they did wrong and will return to the roots, while updating the mechanics to 2015.

  • arjiarji Member UncommonPosts: 93

Seriously the ks had nothing to show. Only promises promises promises. Not even a small demo.

They just throwed a silly "smackhammer game" and thats it ?

And in two years the ll build a great game, with totally new engine, with no bugs that everything will work perfect. Something that the same ppl couldnt succeed in Warhammer online that costs millions.

Sincerely if the game funds i ll propably buy it when its rdy but atm has nothing to show. I dont see even the least effort just words...
